The Official ClanRam Book Club Thread
Here's a thread for book recommendations and critiques. Here a some of the books I've read (or listened to on CD, as I often do that on business trips to Orlando and Tampa), with my ratings:
**** - Great read, highly recommended.
***- Decent read, recommended if the subject matter interests you.
** - Disappointing, not recommended
* - Awful, don't bother
The DaVinci Code ****
Angels and Demons **1/2
I am Charlotte Simmons *
The Five People You Meet In Heaven ****
The Third Translation **
Right now I'm reading a book called The Loch, which is about the famous Scottish lake and its ever elusive monster. I'll give a review when I'm done.

The Berrybender saga (quadrilogy) by Larry Mcmurrtry.
De Vince Code was overrated. Great start, but lame finish.

Re: The Official ClanRam Book Club Thread
Jonathan Lethem - Men and Cartoons
I'd read in the university paper that this book was a hilarious representation about who we, males, are and how we're all very predictable. It wasn't very good to say the least.
Buzz Bissinger - 3 Nights in August
If you're a St. Louis Cardinals fan this is a must read. I'm about half way through it. I never used to understand why Tony LaRussa made the managerial moves he did but after reading this, now I do. It's a very interesting look into what goes on in the clubhouse before and after games, as well as the thought process involved in being a major league manager.

Re: The Official ClanRam Book Club Thread
1) The tex maule series on rams football. started in 1962 with the rookie, he also wrote the qb, the championship qb, the running back, the wide receiver, the cornerback and the linebacker. Maule was the rams Page Ranking guy at one time and the stories have real and psuedoname characters. written really for teenage boys, they are still a great read.
2) Early clancy
3) Mario Puzzo (Fools die is a classic and if you have never read the godfather, no matter how much you liked the movie, you have no idea what you are missing)

2) Early clancy: Ya GC I would totaly agree,Redstorm rising,Hunt for red october.the new ops center stuff is too dry. My favorite being redstorm rising.Hell of a good read, and Rainbow six.If you havent tried it get rainbow six Ravenshield(pc game),but if you do that you might spend less time with the clannies.

Psycho, i love patriot games. Love that sgt major breckenridge! Also really love Without Remorse. Hunt for red october is really the only decent movie of all the clancy stuff.
If you like early clancy, fredrick forsythe is the european version. Day of the Jackal is terrific and so is The Dogs of War.

Re: The Official ClanRam Book Club Thread
Just finished "The Loch" by Steve Alten. I give it a big **** rating. It is exactly what you want in a science fiction book - an exciting, obviously fictional tale, that has enough legitimate science in it to be plausible. It also has a nice mix of Scottish history and folklore.

Re: The Official ClanRam Book Club Thread
I haven't been able to put down the Sin City graphic novels since I got them last week. Before that I was reading Band of Brothers, which I highly recommend.
