Owning up to rep reports
If I have one complaint about the "rep" system is that it doesn't record who made it unless the person has enough integrity to mention who they are in their comment. Why do I bring this up? Recently, I got my first negative rep report over some comment I left for someone else (who thought it was funny, which I confirmed), but this other person cowardly knocked my points down without owning up to it. I live by the motto that one should take a stand, and be honorable enough to personally take responsibility for it. Yes I'm pouting and take responsibility for it.

I have one question, how do you get gray ones?

Re: Owning up to rep reports
Green rep is from people who agreed with your post. Grey is from those that did not.
I can see both sides of the coin on this issue. While it would be nice to see who's giving you rep, we don't want to allow someone to give negative revenge rep to someone who negative repped them.
Not saying you'd do that BRM, but some would if they knew who was repping them negatively. We encourage the use of the rep system as it was intented to be used, and revenge repping is something that is possible and would really ruin the feature entirely.
Anyways, I repped you to try and counteract the negative rep left by the other user since it was a misunderstanding.Last edited by Nick; -06-05-2006 at 09:19 PM.

Re: Owning up to rep reports
I don't know then. I thought when someone clicked that they disagreed, it showed up grey. Maybe it shows up as red. You'd have to get the specifics from Dez, as it appears I'm mistaken. That said, I don't think rep from one person results in any more of a gain or loss than it does from any other person.

Re: Owning up to rep reports
Well I know that if I get good rep from someone like Dez it's about 9 points but from someone else it's 3 points. I'm assuming it's the same for negative rep?
As for not owning up, as Nick says, it help stop the circular negative rep revenge thing.
Personally if I'm motivated enough to give negative rep I'll also leave my name. Only done it once though.

Re: Owning up to rep reports
I got a negative rep for saying this
"I think it's not here for the sole reason that the site is making a profit off of it."
About pacman and the arcade, saying it's not on there because we're making money off of it, without giving money to the developer.
the Comment was "-" and had no name.

Re: Owning up to rep reports
I got a negative one with "?" written down.
I am not sure what to make of that. I guess I said something questionable.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Of course, being the goody-goody that I am, I've never gotten any bad rep points.

Re: Owning up to rep reports
I know. If you're going to give rep, at least say why I'm getting it, even if you don't give your name. Nothing's more confusing than getting rep with no description at all, especially if it's negative.

Oh, and yes, that was a freakin' scary image. I wish I hadn't have responded so I could have missed out on that.

What's in a rep? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Much ado about nothing?
The lady doth protest too much, methinks.
