Randy (BigRedMan) Update

Randy's mom sent me an email - Randy is in the hospital. Damn, I hate this....

Had a message on my answering machine when I got home from the super market today. From Becky at 11:30 Calif. time. Randy is in the hospital with very high fever. Hooked up to lots of IV"S. She was still in ER with him. I can't call her back, but she said she would call me as soon as she knew what was wrong.. Will keep you informed.

Update:

becky just called. Still in er, but getting ready to move him to icu. Has a blood infection the doctor thinks, but won't know for sure till they get the blood cultures back from lab. His temp got to 104.6. They tried to get to a vein in his chest up by the neck and couldn't find one, wanted to go through the groin to get to one so they could give him antibiotics that way to work faster. Randy said no, no more. The doctor asked him if they couldn't get control of this infection did he want resuscitation and he said no. They have no idea how he got this infection.

I talked with Becky today - Randy is doing much better. He has been moved to a regular hospital room.

I know Keenum normally posts the CarePage update, but I wanted to get the information out to you guys:

Randy is in the hospital. He has a severe infection (MRSA). He's very sick but we hope to have him home in a few days. He just had surgery to remove his dual port as the doctors believe that was what was sustaining the infection. The doctor has ordered his chemo stopped until we get the infection under control. That leaves a risk the cancer may spread more aggressively.

Damn. This is the first time I saw this thread, as I am rarely in this section of the site, and I just read all 6 pages.

Randy, hang in there buddy. I have never met/talked to you, but I can see you are a truly amazing person. I will keep you in my thoughts. Stay strong man.

Josh (RFTID) should be in El Paso by now to visit Randy.

It turns out that Randy is not doing very well. He is still in the hospital and in a great deal of pain. I am not sure what else to say.

Hate to hear he's in a lot of pain. Everyone out there say an extra prayer for Randy tonight.

I spoke with Becky yesterday - Randy is fighting two infections with one of those being MRSA. He has spikes in fever and they have switched antibiotics a few times.

A bit of good news from carepages today. Hopefully they can get him out of the hospital and back home tomorrow:

Randy is still in the hospital but one of his doctors is very optimistic that he may be discharged on Wednesday. This infection is has really been kicking his butt. A couple of days ago, they had to remove his port because they felt that the infection could be holding onto it. Today they will be putting a "pic" line in. Randy's (and now my) friend Josh has been here and has been a great help. We wanted to say thank you to him for being here and his lovely family for allowing us to have him for a few days.

Looks like they may be able to bring him home later today! Latest carepages update:

Just a quick update....FINALLY the picc line is in!!!! Randy came thru with flying colors. It's possible that I can take him home this afternoon. Please keep your fingers crossed! The infection appears to be under control and his potassium is up a little more.
