Re: SI's greatest players to wear the #'s 00-99

Well then, to get back to the Rams players (IMO this thread could remain in the Rams Talk forum but...), how about a 'Worthy of Consideration' for the great Elroy Hirsch with number 40?

You guys are talking about number 45 how about the only man to win the Hiesman trophy twice, Archie Griffin.

Absolutely! Right on, Smizz.

Can't think of a more worthy name to don number 99 than 'The Great One'.

I can't believe John Elway is on there over Mickey Mantle.

This has to do with pro sports, not college regardless of how great someone was in college.

Re: SI's greatest players to wear the #'s 00-99

Another Rams number that I think is definitely worthy of consideration is 71: Joe Scibelli, OL.

Iron man Scibelli played 15 straight seasons, three more than Alex 'Tippi Toes' Karras, the Lions DT elected by SI. My man Joe was very underrated but, talk about being reliable! Pro Bowl 1968. Same player value than SI's Charles Mann, at least.

...Oh, you want another Ram to be considered among the Greatest Athletes by the Numbers?

I give you Charlie Cowan, No. 73, a steady tackle of steel that also played 15 with the Rams. Pro Bowl 1967, 68, 69. I certainly think he deserves a 'Worthy of Consideration' merit as well, equal or above SI's Joe Klecko.

Sorry Rams_fan81. :\

To your credit though, that rule /condition (Pros) wasn't stated. Good name though, Archie Griffin.

Actually, if you look at Pedro's career stats he is on the same level as these greats. Plus he had a run with Boston that many consider the greatest run by a pitcher since Koufax with the Dodgers.

Re: SI's greatest players to wear the #'s 00-99

For No. 65, I agree with SI but only in this part of their statement:

Quote:
Bethea heads a number that's light on stars...

That's true. But, how about Tom Mack? :r

This memorable Rams guard is also in the HOF, played 13 straight seasons, eleven of which he made Pro Bowl, that's three more than the Oiler's Elvin Bethea.

BTW, I didn't see a 'Worthy of Consideration' name for this number, the more reason Tom Mack should be there! I still think Mack takes the Greatest 65 with Bethea as runner up. And that's an unbiased opinion.

PS: Mr. BLGuy, can you perhaps lobby to bring this thread back to the Rams Talk forum?
