    The Sopranos Ending

A lot of discussion, a lot of anger. If you saw it, what did you think about it?

Oh man....Ok Phil gets killed....cool, finally some gangsta mayhem. What was with all the attention to AJ? That meeting in the warehouse was lame, and they certainly could of up the violence by a mass killing of underlings at least (old Chicago Valentines Day stuff). Then we come to the end, song playing in the back ground. A shot of a menacing looking man in the restaurant where Tony, Carmella, and AJ are sitting. Another shot of another menacing looking man eating across from them, glancing as if he's up to something. The other guy gets up and goes into the bathroom, as if to retrieve a gun like the scene in Casino to bring back and blow away Tony. Then we have Meadow, frantically trying to parallel park her car outside. Now the music is frantically escalating to increase the anxiety for the climax that's surely coming. Meadow burst through the door of the restaurant.......(go to black). No fade out. Wham. Like a cheap edit in a B movie. No payoff. No last minute chaos. NOTHING.

My opinion? IT SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED.

You mean like the scene in "The Godfather" I think.

This sequence was a bit strange. I can only imagine we were being played with, trying to create some suspense that she was going to get wacked or something.

It's intersting that you mention this because I've read some discussions that point to some confusion about the actual last moment. Some say the last image is a shot of Tony looking up, while others say it's as you described, Meadow bursting through the door. My first recollection was that the final shot was Meadow.....(go to black), but the second time I watched it, it was Tony looking up.....(go to black). I'd be interested to hear what others saw as that last moment.

I hear you. After realizing my satellite signal wasn't interrupted, my first thought was definitely NOT "brilliant!", it was more like "huh?". I guess the big payoff was supposed to be played out in our imaginations. That might work for some, not me.

In the end, with all the unresolved story lines, I've got to believe the door was left open for "Sopranos: The Movie".

You may be right about the Movie Idea.

However various local radio stations have come up with this spin on the ending.

The 2 menacing guys that are seen in the diner are Phil Leatardo's nephew and a truck driver that was related to a truck driver that Christopher hijacked/killed? So the reason for the black-out was that they didn't want to show Tony getting whacked.

To be honest I don't know what the heck to think.....dazed and confused:x

    Re: The Sopranos Ending

I heard that Tony had a discussion with one of his captains about what it would be like when/if they get wacked. Evidently, they speculated that everything would just go black. This seems to be the most popular theory now, that Tony did in fact get wacked and it's through his eyes that the screen goes black. I'm not so upset about the actually ending, but the 50 minutes leading up to it could of been so much more. The episode before definately could of been so much more. The whole last season could of been so much more. The first season was sooooo good. The second season was good but not as good as the first. From the third season on, it was garbage.

This theory is probably as good as any. I'm sure David Chase wanted things to be as arbitrary as possible and open to personal interpretations.

I totally agree that the first two seasons were incredible and things went downhill after that, but if everything after that was garbage, it was still better than just about anything on the tube.
