South Park vs. Scientology
Anyone else following this rather amusing story?
For those not up to date, last season South Park ran an episode that lampooned Scientology and some its famous members, including Tom Cruise and John Travolta.
A couple of weeks ago, a statement was released by Isaac Hayes, the voice of "Chef," quitting the show because it supposedly went too far with its religious satire. The creaters of South Park responded by noting that Isaac Hayes, a Scientologist, never had a problem when the show made fun of other religions (which it has done often).
Last week, the Scientology episode was supposed to be shown as a re-run, but was pulled off the schedule. Some speculated that Tom Cruise had threatened not to promote his upcoming movie, "Mission Impossible 3" (the film studio that made the film is, like Comedy Central, owned by Viacom) if the episode was put on the air. Cruise's "people" denied this.
Last night, South Park aired its season premier titled "The Return of Chef," which featured the character with dialogue spliced together from old episodes. I won't spoil the details, as I'm sure many will want to watch it when its re-run (I think its on again tonight).
However, now there's a new twist - a reporter from Fox News claims that Hayes suffered a stroke in January, and suggested that he did not make the decision to resign, nor did he make the statement about the show's supposed religious intolerance.
Stay tuned!

Re: South Park vs. Scientology
Wow. This is confusing. My teacher today said not to talk of it because it was to bad like inappropriate. He said if we talk about it in his class that we'll get a detention because he just happened to watch it last night. I found that out by asking if he watched southpark and if so if he had seen my favorite episode. Episode 802 ... Up-Down Steroids aka Special Olypics

I can't find South Park. Maybe it is not getting replayed today. :bored:
oh 16, don't you get it???? South Park is on the opposite end of the politically correct world. Teachers are not allowed to let the students, act or think, in an inappropriate manner even if it is true and funny.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Is this the first episode that Kenny did not get killed?
I am imagining that a few people might be shocked to know that kids watch this show.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

No. The Special Olympics one he didn't get killed either. I've seen like 10 where he didn't. It's wierd though because I'm so used to seeing him die!

Re: South Park vs. Scientology
South Park is the best forum for this melange of twisted borrowed philosophy and quasi-scientific bilge that masquerades as a religion.

Re: South Park vs. Scientology
The funny thing is that, while Scientology calls itself a "Church," apparently L. Ron Hubbard himself insisted that it is not intended to be a religion.

my take goes something like this...South Park is the best place for the disgusting ridiculous mix of philosophy and scientific fact, that disguises itself as a religion.

Re: South Park vs. Scientology
I think Fat Pang should explain it since he seems to feel strongly about it. Perhaps he can tone the vocabulary down a tad, so that the non-english majors can comprehend it.
All I know is that it sounds like a cult and some rich and famous hollywood types are into it.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
