It opens here on the 19th also. I can wait for the DVD. He kinda lost me when part VI came out. Too something. Now I have heard this will be the last one. What happened to three trilogies?
This space for rent...

Re: The Star Wars Film????
From what I hear, this third movie will make up for the disappointments of the first two prequels. So yeah, I'm pretty pumped. Can't wait to see Miss Portman on the big screen again. *swoon*

Re: The Star Wars Film????
Not happening, from what I've heard. I think Lucas is content with the post-trilogy history that has been fleshed out in the novels written by Zahn and others. Plus, are Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher going to be able to do now what they did in their 20s and 30s in the original trilogy? I doubt it. So do you recast them? That would be blasphemy.

I'm not one of those "camp outside the theater for months to see the first airing" kind of guys, but I am excited to see it. The trailer looks great.

Re: The Star Wars Film????
I'm looking forward to seeing it, even though Av just ruined the ending. I'll go to the theater to get the full effect. Then when it comes out on DVD I'll buy it. I have the 1st three. Its supposed to be rather dark I here. I too have heard that its supposed to be pretty good.
I didn't care as much for the two prequels. Especially the 1st one. The creatures they introduced, not to mention the ethnic slant in the voices, weren't up to the caliber that we witnessed in the 1st two originals (my favorites). Although, the prequels did provide more storyline, special effects, clarification and history which made them worth watching.Last edited by viper; -05-14-2005 at 01:10 PM.

Re: The Star Wars Film????
I would rank the films as follows (best to worst):
1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope (the original Star Wars)
3. Return of the Jedi
4. Attack of the Clones
5. The Phantom Menace

That would be my ranking as well.

Re: The Star Wars Film????
I agree with the ranking, but I almost think I'd put Clones over Jedi. I thought Jedi had a bit too much of a family fun campy feel to it with the Ewoks and the lack of danger most of the characters were in for the duration of the movie.
In ANH you've got Leia captured, Ben dying, daring escapes, and the Empire about to blow up Yavin. In Empire, you've got Han and Leia on the run for basically the entire movie before being captured, and you've got Luke going toe to toe with Vader. In Jedi, everything just felt so ho-hum. The Jabba sequence at the beginning was good, but after that it's like everyone was just sitting around with no threat. Even Luke's capture was something he wanted, and thus didn't make you feel that tense about it. Best part of Jedi was Ackbar's line, "It's a trap!"
After something as dark as Empire, Jedi was not as good as I was expecting.

Re: The Star Wars Film????
Quite true, Nick. Those ewoks were lame. They reminded me of the gopher on Caddyshack. Clones may have the edge.

Re: The Star Wars Film????
Good point, Nick. In fact, as far as a characters ability to ruin a movie, I would put ewoks second only to Jar-Jar. The ewoks did to RotJ what Jar-Jar did to the PM.

Re: The Star Wars Film????
Jedi is a very uneven movie. The rescue of Han Solo and the final encounter between Luke, Vader and the Emperor are great scenes. The Ewoks and the rehash of the Death Star assault are pretty lame.
Clones has some good parts too, but Lucas did a very bad job, in my opinion, of developing the romance of Anakin and Padme, and also tends to over-complicate the political aspects of the plot.
