Tell Me Something About Where You Live
I live in Broken Arrow, a suburb of Tulsa, OK. The guy that founded the Chisolm Trail is buried about 2 miles (as the crow flies) from my house.
Following the Civil War, huge herds of cattle were driven to northern markets. In the fall of 1870 Sampson Chisholm broke a cattle trail (aka Chisolm Trail) starting near Royse City, Texas. Drovers took their cattle across the Arkansas River on a ferry or forded the river when the water was low south of Broken Arrow. The trail continued east of the mounds of Broken Arrow and on to St. Joseph, Mo. Sampson Chisholm became a cattle and sheep farmer near Mingo Road and 121st Street. He was shot and killed in 1878 and buried on or near his farm.

Re: Tell Me Something About Where You Live
It was 44 Degrees about a day ago. Today I looked out the window, the sun was shining, and the ground was clear while I was sitting at my desk at work. I walked to the water-fountain to fill my bottle, came back, and there was two inches of snow on the ground. This is COLUMBUS, OHIO. I Love to Hate it. You could go swimming on the same day that there is a thunderstorm and snowstorm.

Re: Tell Me Something About Where You Live
Well, today is one of our colder days... it is in the low 50s. When it gets really warm it is in the upper 80s. If it weren't for the 2 1/2 miles of sand dunes I could see the Pacific Ocean from my front door.
Almost exactly 1/2 way between Los Angeles and San Francisco and about 1/2 way between Vandenberg Air Force Base and Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant.
Approximately 17,000 people call it home, nearest University is Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, about 20 miles North.
Hunting, fishing, and off road vehicles are popular hobbies with our drive-on beach/sand dunes, 5 lakes, the Pacific Ocean, and National Forest all in close proximity.RnD

Re: Tell Me Something About Where You Live
I'm in Springfield, MO, home of Cashew Chicken, Bass Pro Shops, and Brad Pitt, who used to go to the same school I did, except he was 2 years behind me.
We're also famous for such things as being the city 30 miles north of Branson, tornadoes nearby several times each year, and ice storms like they are predicting for tomorrow. There are a disproportionate number of Dallas fans here, and KC Chiefs crap is everywhere, but you can't seem to find any Rams merchandise.
Oh, yeah, we are also famous for being one minute east of HUbison at 360 miles per hour!Super Bowl Champions 2013!

Stockton, California. Home of University of Pacific, owner of the San Diego Chargers Alex Spanos, the television show Big Valley, and the most depressed home market in the United States.

Re: Tell Me Something About Where You Live
Last week we never got above zero degrees Fahrenheit for 5 days straight! Temperatures plummeted to 30 below, with 60 below wind chills. Even this weekend we were again -15 degrees.
The town I live in produces Malt-O-Meal cereal. Also, Jesse James gang attempted to robbed a bank here many years ago, and town folks banded together to shot a couple of the gang members during the raid. Every year we still celebrate the our victory over the James gang. Also the home of 2 private colleges, St. Olaf and Carleton College (Harvard of the midwest).

Re: Tell Me Something About Where You Live
A city where temperatures vary yearly from -5 degrees to 105 degrees. Home to one of the figures of the Revolution, later turned traitor, Benedict Arnold. Home to the Mohegan Sun Casino, its park, and its garden. A few miles away stands one of the elite universities in the country, Yale University. We also have a Minor League Baseball team who are a farm team under the San Francisco Giants. Norwich, CT is where I live.

Re: Tell Me Something About Where You Live
i from wigan, england. the weather is pretty terrible and we had like 1 week of sunshine this summer (when i say sunshine im talking about 25c max) most days its miserable and since like december, 90% of the time i wake up for work its either raining or frozen and i have to de-ice my car at 3am every morning

anyway apart from that, i live about 5 miles away from wigan rugby league club, for those who dont know it is a rugby league club with massive massive history, top 5 most successful sports teams ever.

Re: Tell Me Something About Where You Live
North Attleboro, Massachusetts
I live 15 minutes north of Providence, R.I. and 45 minutes south of Boston or Beantown as many call it. I also live about 15 minutes from Gillette Stadium, home of the Patriots. The Boston Red Sox top rated minor league team the Pawtucket Red Sox play at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, R.I. which is about 10 minutes from where I live. The NHL's Boston Bruins top farm team the Providence Bruins play in Providence, R.I. which is 15 minutes away.
Although I'm not a supporter of any of the Boston teams I do take the gang to some of the minor/farm team games. Great facilities and inexpensive compared to the big leagues.
Our weather is generally in the 20-30 degree range and do get quite a bit of snow during our winter season. We have been experiencing some very cold weather compared to our usual winter standards. It has been in the single numbers at night and low teens during the daylight hours.
Frrrrrrrrigid!

Re: Tell Me Something About Where You Live
I live in Longwood, Florida.
When you think of Florida, you're probably not thinking of a place like Longwood. We're over an hour from the nearest beach, and 45 minutes from Disney World. My house is in a neighborhood just East of the Wekiva River Basin, a protected area surrounding the Wekiva River (which is fed by Wekiwa and Rock Springs).
Living among the live oak trees, we get a lot of critters in our front and back yards, including white tailed deer, black bears, opossums, raccoons, armadillo, gopher tortoises, and a myriad of birds. I spend my Saturday mornings paddling down the Wekiva River. Here's a recent self portrait.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Tell Me Something About Where You Live
I lived in Norwich CT growing up and I remember Mohegan Park. I seem to remember feeding animals there and a big herd of deer. I went to Kelly Jr High up there. I wonder if that school is still around.
Nice self portrait Avenger. I did some kayaking last year in Florida an burned myself to a crisp. That florida sun is hot.
I live in Herndon, VA now. Interesting facts. Old Dominion is brewed close by. You can take tours and hear how they make beer and sample brew or root beer. We have the Washington & Old Dominion Trail (W&OD ) which is a 45 mile trail that goes into through Northern Virginia from Arlington County to Purcellville, VA. This was a railroad track that they paved and now it is used for biking, walking, or rollerblading. Great Falls is a must see. It is a point of the Potomac River that gets turbulent. There are overlooks from the Md and VA sides. You can climb rocks, hike, and do some white water kayaking there, but no swimming. It's too dangerous to swim in.Last edited by UtterBlitz; -01-27-2009 at 12:08 AM. Reason: adding more
