Re: We Are Quitting!
I smoked for 20 plus years and was a 40 plus a day man.
I still take the very occasional n ice cigar though.
lets see if you can get any of the other smokers to join you in your quest.

Re: We Are Quitting!
Smoked for 30 years. Tried cold turkey, patches, nicorette gum....would last awhile but always relapsed (my wife continued to smoke, and doesn't desire to quit which made it that more difficult for me). Finally I went to a hypnotist. Always thought that hypnosis was a bunch of bull, but I'll be damned if it didn't work for me. Left that office after one session and haven't touched a cigarette in over a year. No cravings at all, even with my wife still smoking.
Good luck to ya.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Best of luck, fortunately, you have each other for support. You are making a decision that is virtually guaranteed to extend both the duration and the quality of your life. Great news for your kids as well.

I've been asked to relay this message:
If either of you ever smokes again I will find you and sit on you.

Hope that helps!

To tag on to what GC said.....whenever you feel an urge to burn a grit, take a look at your kids. Not smoking is better for them because:
1. they're not exposed to 2nd-hand smoke
2. they're not encouraged through example to pick up the habit
3. their kids will have their grandparents around a lot longer
Hang in there, guys."Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

Rent the movie Cold Turkey if you have never seen it. ITs a very funny tongue and cheek comedy about an entire town that stops smoking for 1 month in order to win money from a tobacco company. Dick Van Dyke stars, early bob newhart role.

Re: We Are Quitting!
I mentioned in a thread a couple of months ago that I quit smoking after 25 years cold turkey cuz of a cancer scare which really did scare the hell out of me. When I was told that I may have mouth cancer which was something I never felt or saw. It was a normal dentist visit and he wanted a biopsy done on the very back of my tongue.
I freaked and stopped and bought 2 packs of cigs. I lit up one cig out in my backyard and with tears in my eyes I said What The Hell Are You Doing? I threw everything in the garbage and that was last Sept. 21st (a date that I will never forget) and have not had even a drag since, not even a craving which I cannot believe. Luckily my results came back negative but it woke me up and has also saved me over $1300.
Good luck to you guys and as a family. I sincerely wish you guys the best here! Stick together, that's going to be important!

Re: We Are Quitting!
Just think of all of those poor tobacco workers that will be laid off from the two of you kicking the habit.
