Weird Food Combos
I was inspired to start this thread with AV's other thread...I know we all must have different tastes and slightly different combos that others might think....WHAT THE ???????
As I mentioned in the other thread, spaghetti with a dab of sour cream mixed in tastes good.
Another is Cheeseburgers dipped in spicy hot sauce.
What are yours???

I also eat potato chips with ketchup, although that doesn't seem weird to me, for some reason.[SIGPIC]http://www.stickershoppe.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/MLRPANCmini.jpg[/SIGPIC]This is for Randy! GO BRM!

Re: Weird Food Combos
Well, I already mentioned my hot chocolate w/cayenne pepper in another thread, but here's another:
Tomato egg-drop soup w/corn.
1 can Campbells' tomato soup (use 1/2 can water, 1/2 can milk). Add 1 can of corn. Bring to boil and drop in two raw eggs (scrambled). Stir until eggs are cooked. Serve.
Mmmmm...mmmm...good!

Gross. I thought MREs were bad. That just really takes the cake. I'll gladly eat MREs for a week instead of that once on any day of the week. More power to ya Av on that dish.Tomato egg-drop soup w/corn.

Don't knock it 'till you try it! When I first told my wife about this recipe, she had a similar reaction, but when she tried it, she had to admit she liked it!

Re: Weird Food Combos
As I have admitted in more than one thread, I have a thing for Mexican food. Not 'Taco Bell' type stuff....but the real thing. Stuff most people from Missouri would gag on.
One of my favorite dishes is Pollo Mole...very roughly translated, it is chicken with a chocolate-pepper sauce. Here's a recipe for it:
Pollo En Chocolate Sauce (chicken Mole) Recipe
Mexican Chicken
Ingredients:
4 tb Olive oil
2 Cloves garlic, minced
Serving-pieces of chicken
-for 6 persons
1 Onion, chopped
1 Green pepper, chopped
3 Slices canned pimento,
-chopped
2 Large tomatoes, peeled,
-seeded, and chopped
2 tb Chili powder (or to taste)
2 1/2 c Chicken broth
1/4 c Slivered almonds
1/4 c Raisins
1/2 ts Cumin
1/4 ts Nutmeg
1/4 ts Ground cloves
1/4 ts Cinnamon
1/2 ts Salt
1/4 ts Pepper
1 t Sugar
Grated rind of 1 orange
2 Squares bitter chocolate,
-chopped
1/4 c Light rum
Directions:
In casserole, heat oil and cook garlic for a few moments to flavour oil; add chicken and brown. Remove chicken. In remaining fat, cook onion, green pepper, pimento, and tomato over gentle heat for 10 minutes. To onion mixture, add chili powder, blending well. Add broth, almonds, raisins, seasonings, and rind; simmer, covered, 30 minutes longer. Add chocolate, stirring until melted. Replace chicken, spooning sauce over. Bake, covered, at 350 degrees for 1 hour, or until chicken is tender. Warm rum, ignite it, and pour over contents of casserole; allow to stand for a few minutes.
Yield: 6
I don't usually do this recipe. It is too time consuming, so I have found a few shortcuts...
But when you are taking a big bite of it at lunch, and people ask what you are eating, and you tell them chicken with chocolate sauce, and you see that sort of gagging look on their face....

When I was in the USAF, we had to eat C-rations that were packed in 1945. MRE's can't be nearly that bad....eating 40 year old peanut butter and crackers was an experience.....

My girlfriend does this, too. Actually, so does my old roommate. Maybe it's not so weird, but good luck getting me to try it.

Re: Weird Food Combos
Mustard on the uneaten pizza crusts (the edge without any sauce or cheese).
Tastes like the pretzels w/mustard I had growing up in a certain city.
Spagetti w/ sour cream makes sense.
Fries in shakes makes sense.
Potato chips w/ ketchup makes sense.
Corn with egg drop soup makes sense.
MREs are good.
Polle Mole (with the chocolate) is a popular dish in some parts of the Southwest.
Lots of peeps put hotsauce on cheeseburgers.
Pickles with fudge.... whoa, now that's scary!

Re: Weird Food Combos
Love POW's. What are they?
A mixture of mayo, SPAM, hard boiled eggs and Velveeta cheese. This is made into a sandwich spread and baked in the oven on a bun wrapped in tin foil. yyyyyuuuuummmmmmm!!
Taco salad sauce. I mix mayo and ketchup and season salt. Instead of the standard sour cream/hot sauce.
Got to have pickles with my spaghetti. And Bloody Mary's
LOVE SAUERKRAUT and pork hocks!! Take the sauerkraut and put it on your mash potatoes, top it off with ketchup.

Re: Weird Food Combos
WOW, some interesting combos here and I must say that I have said EWWWWWWWWWWWWW to some of them but I would try a few of these just for the heck of it. I don't bungee jump, skydive, or jaywalk so I have to take a walk on the wild side at some point, ya know? lol

Re: Weird Food Combos
We ate those the first couple of years that I was in. The "John Wayne Candy Bar" (round chocolate crunch wafer) was the only thing worth hoping for. I still remember the cigarette five packs that came with some of them. In basic we would smoke them at smoke break, whether we actually smoked regularly or not, just to get away from the psycho drill sergeants. BTW, the breakfast ones were the worst!! Nothing like decades old powdered egg substances to start your day.
