Re: What category do you fall into?

I fall into the second category.

I like my career. It is challenging and can be exciting at times. I enjoy the competition aspect of it, and I like helping people with problems.

That said, there will come a day that I will be very happy to move on to other things. There are so many things I like to do: birding, hiking, photography, canoeing/kayaking, cooking... I could see myself trying to write a book one day. I could see designing and running a websight. I'd like to drive accross the country.

This is not a judgment. I respect those who are happy to work until they drop, and I admire those who push forward with careers they might not like very much but that allow them to support themselves and a family.

Which category best describes you?

Re: What category do you fall into?

I am with you, second category. I like my job and I am good at it, but I am doing it as a means to money. I could do so many other things if my time was not tied up at work.

I keep thinking about moving and changing things up since I have been doing the same thing for so long and a change would be refreshing.

I can't ever imagine being retired and doing nothing, so I imagine I will be working somewhere or for some purpose as long as I have some skills to offer.

Re: What category do you fall into?

I like my career, it's ok but nothing to be excited about. I never see myself not working, I'll probably be a Wal-Mart Greeter at 90.

Re: What category do you fall into?

I like my job also, and finally after working for others for 30 years I ventured out on my own as a General Building Contractor mostly playing at finish carpenter (and NO, that isn't an ethnic specialty). It won't make me rich but there is more satisfaction.

I voted for option 1 but would probably not resist new vocations or variations of the one I am in just so the mind doesn't stagnate, like the body seems to be doing...lol, so #2 might be closer to the truth.

I am self employed with 2 partners. I have always liked change and new challenges. Thus I see moving on in the near future as a distinct possibilty.

Re: What category do you fall into?

I used to have a career but it turned out to be a job. I now live my life looking at things as jobs that can come and go and easily be replace. They no longer consume my life I consume theres. My family, life and personal well-being is much more important. Mind you...I have a great wife that can financially support a family on her own, making it possible for me to look at my life much differently.

So you all can have your cooperate America jobs ;-) I will be a pee-on any day ;-)

Re: What category do you fall into?

Interesting question.

I went for the second option.

I had a corporate position before I came out here to HK, well-paid I guess but ultimately soulless. Now I work in an entirely different field and am less well paid but a lot happier. I won't stay in it forever, or at least don't intend to but I've stopped trying to second-guess my choices as much and am just happy to roll with life a little more.

As with 'Wraith, having an understanding successful wife removes a lot of the pressure on me to return to that corporate grind and it gives me the chance to do those things I want to.

Shock yourself? It hardly shows.

Re: What category do you fall into?

I guess I don't fall in to any of those yet
Going to college at UAH (University of Alabama in Huntsville), majoring in Aerospace Engineering, part time job as a private tutor.
I get enough to put gas in the car and for a bit more, so I'm happy.

Love it, never changing, unless our Fund has a shot to buy the rams someday, in which case i will strongly consider getting out of the deal business and back into operations!
