That new U.G.K is a classic
Can't stand it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least you didn't say "rap music" .. That one just kills me ...
I don't box myself into any music. I like rap, big tupac fan.
I don't like most of the mainstream fake "gangsta" rap, but there is a lot of intelligent, real hip hop out there I really enjoy.
Some of my favorites are Mos Def, Immortal Technique, Atmosphere, Jurassic 5, Aesop Rock and Murs.
In my opinion, rap is to music what a landfill is to fine art. I'm not saying there isn't any talent there, I'm just saying it is rare. Tupac is one of the few examples of talent in rap. The rest of the stuff - well, let's send it to the dump.
Now, if you want to hear some musical genius, don't overlook classical, swing, country, pop, rock, metal...almost everything but disco and rap.
I mean, we like BOTH kinds of music - country AND western! (If you don't get the reference, maybe you should rent the "Blues Brothers" and learn about classic movies as well!)
Rap makes my ears vomit.
I could never dismiss an entire genre of music. There's some stuff that I like here and there, but it's mostly older material. I can appreciate the expression, but not the direction it's going.
Some of Kid Rock's stuff is good. Beastie Boys. I lean toward the Rock Rap stuff to get my thang on!
I abhor rap. Maybe because I don't understand it, maybe because I don't try.
The words to Sugar Hill Gang's Rappers Delight are the greatest. Its all downhill from there in the rap world. The best line (one often used as well by Big Red Man when he was on the dating scene) in the song goes "He can satisfy you with his little worm, but I can bust you out with my Super Sperm!"
Ramming speed to all (especially Master G and Wonder Mike)
general counsel
I really don't care for 99.9% of it. I don't mind Dr Dre, Outkast, Jurassic 5 and maybe an occasional song here and there. But most of it I can't tell apart and I find it boring and uninteresting.
Plus, I am a hard rock/heavy metal kind of guy so your not going to find too much rap in my cd collection.
i named my cat Waylon Jennings!:D
i got all them artists in my record collection too..
what about Billy Joe Shaver and Johny Paycheck?
my music tastes is so varied its basically anyone where guitar and drums are involved but to name a few..
Neil Young,Grateful Dead,Creedence Clearwater Revival,Allman Brothers,The Band,Bob Dylan,Traffic,Cream,Blind Faith,The Byrds,Gene Clark solo stuff..Hendrix,Flying Burrito Bros,Gram Parsons,The Doors,Charlie Daniels Band,Little Feat,Big Brother & the Holding Company,Jefferson Airplane,Manassas,Stephen Stills,David Crosby,Led Zeppelin,The Who,The Kinks..Bonnie Prince Billy,Pentangle,Bert Jansch,Robert Johnson,Howlin Wolf,Sam "Lightnin`" Hopkins,Rolling Stones,Ziggy Stardust & the Spiders from Mars,Lou Reed,Townes Van Zandt ,Uncle Tupelo,T-Rex,Elliot Smith, Ramones..
you get the jist..:D
goin back to Rap....give me Mellie Mel over 50cent anyday of the week and twice on Sundays!
See, now that is interesting, Red. I like the Beasties and LOVE Kid Rock (almost as much as AV loves Kid Rock). But I wouldn't classify either of them as rap. Maybe that's just my own classification or rather misclassification, but I see rap as something different.
Actually, I keep a copy of Kid Rock's first album on hand at all times. You never know when you might accidentally ingest some poisionous substance and need to induce vomiting.
As for Rap in general... not my cup of tea.
No rap for me. I'm more into, well, "devil's music" here are some. (Images represent the intensity :) )
