Windows XP....just plain hype or more?
I haven't used XP much, seeing how most business software isn't ready for that yet. However, I've heard both good and bad. I couldn't believe how easy it was for a hacker to bust in on someones machine using XP. They supposedly fixed that bug though.
How do you guys feel about?

yep, that bug was fixed pretty quick
I have been using XP since the trial stage and I LOVE it.
its fast, reliable but it is memory hungry.
I use it for all my work aplications so I am confused as to why you say there is no software out there for it ??
All my stuff works great on it (I was using windows 2000 before)
anyhoo, big thumbs up from me.
PS, never had a crash on it yet.

It usually takes big accounting packages like Coda, or FAS, or JD Edwards about a year or so after the initial release to gear there products towards an upgraded platform. Most of the time, they want all the bugs out before installation.
Now, QuickBooks, Quicken and those little packages probably already have a release for XP.

XP is one of the most stable OSes on the market today. It's an excellent networking OS as well. I couldn't go a day sometimes without having to restart, now I can go a good week and a half before even thinking about restarting.
If you can snag a copy, do.

windows 98se for this cat. Not enough drivers out for XP, but they are coming faster every day. Stability resides in the processor--can the pentium step up to a 1.4 gig or more AMD and you will see stability.:wiseman:

I am not a computer person but we put XP on a week ago and we love it...I was like Blankman having to restart daily and I went a week without ...I love it.

Re: Windows XP....just plain hype or more?
I was using Widows 2000 pro on my laptop at work and it ran slow and crashed quite frequnetly. After much resistants our IT department approved the use of XP and my laptop now flies. I've been using XP on my home CP for three years now and have never had a problem.

Re: Windows XP....just plain hype or more?
I have used every Winblows OS since 3.1, except NT. XP is definitely the most stable of the bunch. I have used this OS on an old 550 MHZ machine, and now on a 2 gig machine. The only problem I have ever had was due to a disk drive problem.
20 times more stable than Win2K, 50 times more stable than 98SE.
You won't regret it, but I reccomend the Pro version over the home.Super Bowl Champions 2013!

Re: Windows XP....just plain hype or more?
I just bought my own computer a year ago that had XP built-in. No complaints but I learned fast to use the automatic updates from Microsoft. I got online just in time for that worm that was going around. Another poster mentioned the memory. I'll have to add another memory chip to this computer.
