Rams boink bucs 27-24; The Good, Bad and Ugly

The Rams pushed their nfc west leading record to 7-3 with an enormous 27-24 road win over a very good tampa bay team in what was obviously a playoff caliber game. The squad was incredibly resilient tonight, fighting through adversity at many points in the game to pull out the victory and remain unbeaten in the McVay era in games we lead at halftime. Jared Goff outplayed brady, the Rams defense was outstanding, and after weeks of complaints from me, the Rams and McVay FINALLY came up with ways to get the ball out of Goff's hands quickly and capitalize against the blitz. While the Rams were unable to run at all against the top run defense in the league, our oline deserves enormous credit. Goff threw 51 passes and was not sacked once! A statement win for sure, especially following the brutal game against seattle last week, the question is whether the Rams can continue to build on their performance, achieve some consistency and whack the whiners on sunday in another critical division matchup.

The Good

Jared Goff played his best game in a long time. Was he perfect? No, he threw two picks and fumbled once, although i think the fumble may have been a missed snap count by blythe and i think the first pick was on henderson was did not turn his head and ran the wrong way. However, considering that he threw 51 times, completing 39 for 374 yards and 3 tds (rating of 99.9), showed excellent pocket presence, and led the game winning drive, Goff played exceptionally well. As i mentioned in the opening, McVay finally found a way to get Goff in rhythm with short quick passes (including slants and outs, along with play action), along with finally figuring out how to deal with the blitz. Just an absolutely critical development for the squad if we hope to achieve our potential and advance in the playoffs. A biblical improvement against the blitz from the debacle in Miami. Goff was 11-11-152 and a td in the first half against the blitz and kupp (11-145) and woods (12-130) killed tampa all night with their precise route running. Goff was patient and with a couple of exceptions, took what the defense gave him despite having no running game. He was excellent on third down (8-16) especially early and late, saving some of his best throws for critical points in the game, including huge passes to woods and kupp on the game winning drive. He converted 3-3 in the red zone in a game where he had no margain for error. His field goal drive at the end of the first half may have been the difference in the game. Sensational catch and run by woods for 35 yards to allow goff to spike the ball with 1 second on the clock for marvin gaye to come in and kick the 37 yard field goal as time expired which put us up 17-14 at half. If Goff plays like this every week we are going to be very tough to beat because you have to keep in mind that we are going to be much better generally running the ball than we were tonight. I feel incredibly strongly that the quick...
