Way back when....Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville hosted the "Mississippi River Festival" every summer. They brought in a wide range of artists including, The Who, Yes, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Marshall Tucker, Seals and Crofts, The Doobie Brothers, even Benny Goodman. Admission was cheap if you were willing to sit outside the tent on the lawn. We were there all the time. If any of you remember Heart, we saw them as an unknown opening act. One of my all-time favorite concerts was Jerry Jeff Walker at the Wash U quadrangle in St. louis. Humble Pie at the Kiel Opera House, Vassar Clements or The Flying Burrito Brothers at the Ambassador....Ah, memories!

            Re: Concerts

The most notable concert I went to was in Knebworth Park outside London in the Summer of 1986 - it was Queen's last performance before Freddie Mercury died (which I didn't realize until years later when I was watching a "Behind the Music" special on the band).

            I have also seen:

            U2
            Sting
            Paul McCartney
            The Who
            The Rolling Stones
            REM
            Natalie Merchant
            Don Henley
Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band
            Bryan Adams
            Billy Joel
            Foreigner
            The Smithereens
            The Alarm
            10,000 Maniacs
            Hall and Oates
            Rod Stewart
            Chicago
            Paul Simon

And some others I can't think of at the moment.

                Re: Concerts

Most bands don't come around here often, so my list is a bit small but growing:

-Countless bands at the Warped Tour (2002 & 2003)
                -Disturbed
                -Systematic
                -Stereomud
                -Adema
                -Drowning Pool
                -Creeping Charlie (a local band)
                -Pete Yorn
                -Weezer
                -Hed P.E.
                -Korn

I know there were more, but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

                    Re: Concerts

Disturbed was very good in concert. They had a kickass intro with a bunch of, uh... disturbing images flashed on a big screen which pulled back to reveal Draiman being pulled onto stage in a straightjacket. This eventually led into their first song, and from there on it was all-out rock. They were on key and not sloppy at all (even some of the tricky vocals), and even played what was a new song at the time (Prayer, the first single off their second album) for us. I'm not a big fan of Nickelback, so you're on your own as far as that goes, but I strongly recommend seeing Disturbed if you ever get the chance.

                          Re: Concerts

Now TX is a man after my own heart. That was when rock N roll rocked. I am like TX though I couldn't even begin to list all the shows I've been to. Back in the 70s I worked for an ex-patriate in Munich,Germany who hired Americans to do roadie work. We were doing at least 1-2 shows a week for 2 years. Everything from Patty Smith to the Stones, Lou Reed and Golding Earring. In the early 90s me and a mate formed a company to provide security work, ushering, contraband interdiction and ticketing to events on the east coast. The Dead hired us for one of their fall tours and when we got back we hooked up with the Stones for the Steel Wheels Tour in chicago, cleveland, indianapolis. This was a part-time gig for about 4 years.

let's just say ... I wouldn't know where to start.
