  • Oregon State football player dies after truck flips in crash

    July 24, 2004 wire reports

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Oregon State defensive back Justin Williams was killed when the pickup truck he was riding in flipped over after it was struck by another vehicle.

Oregon State Police Lt. Dale Rutledge said the crash happened Friday night 20 miles south of Portland on Interstate 5.

"The two drivers got involved in a confrontation; you could call it 'road rage,' " Rutledge said. "One driver lost control and struck the second vehicle, a Toyota pickup, which rolled."

The 19-year-old Williams, of Los Banos, Calif., was the only fatality.

The pickup was driven by Williams' uncle, 40-year-old Michael Keyes of Harrisburg, Ore., a former player at Oregon State. Keyes and Jason Williams, Justin's brother, were taken to Portland-area hospitals with minor injuries, Rutledge said.

Timothy Senske, 27, the driver of the other vehicle, and his passenger, Sonjulaine Jurasz, 34, were still at the scene late Friday helping officials reconstruct the accident, Rutledge said.

Charges had not been filed and the accident was being investigated, Rutledge said.

Williams was entering his redshirt freshman season and listed third on the depth chart at right cornerback.

"I'm in a state of shock -- our hearts and prayers go out to the family," Oregon State athletic director Bob De Carolis said.
