  • The Sporting News Honors Kirk Morrison

    Aztec linebacker is a second-team All-America selection

    Dec. 9, 2004

San Diego State senior linebacker Kirk Morrison has been named as a 2004 second-team All-American by The Sporting News.

With the honor, Morrison becomes the first Aztec since Marshall Faulk (1991-1992-1993) to be recognized as an All-American in consecutive seasons.

Morrison was a College Football News first-team All-American last year. Each of the last two seasons he has been named as the Mountain West Conference defensive player of the year, becoming the first person in league history to be awarded that honor in consecutive seasons. Morrison, a native of Oakland, is San Diego State's first three-time, first-team all-conference player since Kabeer Gbaja Biamila, now of the Green Bay Packers.

Morrison was a semifinalist for the Butkus Award, presented annually to the nation's top linebacker. He ended his career with 396 tackles, second all-time at San Diego State behind only Whip Walton. Morrison recorded 115 tackles each of the last two seasons.

He will next be in action on Jan. 29, 2005, when he participates in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.
