Rams choke seachickens 28-12; The Good, Bad and Ugly

The Rams rode a dominant performance on both sides of the ball tonight to choke the seachickens 28-12, pushing their record to 8-5 and remaining very much alive in the wild card hunt, one game back of minnesota. Boy does that missed kick at the end of the first seattle game hurt, but tonight is a night to focus on the outstanding performance of our squad, rather than to dwell on the mistakes of the past. The Rams offensive line has been rejuvinated by the insertion of Evans at tackle, Corbett at guard, and the shirt to center of blythe in place of the incompetent Brian Allen. McVay has rediscovered Todd Gurley and all of a sudden Goff looks like a franchise qb again. Amazing what a remotely functional running game and excellent pass protection will do for a qb! On the defensive side of the ball, we have some outstanding young players in Rapp, Littleton and HIll along with a newfound pass rush that certainly makes a big difference. But for two really bad INT's and a blocked field goal, this game would have been a complete blowout. Really a tremendous all around effort and proof that if the Rams can continue to play to their potential, they have plenty of games left this season and have the capability to make a run deep in the playoffs. We are on a week to week basis so i am not saying that we are where we want to be right now, only that we have shown we are peaking at the right time. The question now is whether we can maintain this level and play with consistency next week against Dallas because if we play like this again, we are going to keep winning no matter who we play.

The Good

Let's start with Goff. He was 22-31-293 with 2 tds and a rating of 95.2. He was very accurate tonight and for the most part, showed improved judgment. He had a couple of drops that might have made his night look even better, including a brutal one in the 4th by cooks on a perfect thrown on 3rd and 9 down the sideline. His ball fakes were excellent. He was patient. He used his tight end in a way that we have been looking for all year. Sure, he had a couple of bad decisions, but i feel very strongly that the pick six was on woods who stopped on his route. This is the kind of performance to continue to build on. We know that the running game and pass protection help a ton and make the misdirection and play action work and that is a huge key to our offense, but we have all been very hard on Goff, rightfully so, so lets give him some credit for a second very strong game in a row. Again, lets see if he can keep in up next week.

The offensive line. Massive Kudos to Bobby Evans who looks like a real keeper and a great draft pick. He smothered Clowney all night. Clowney never got near Goff. Kudos to Snead for the trade to acquire Corbett for a song. He has been a massive updgrade. Blythe is not the greatest, but he is 1000x better than Brian Allen. Whitworth and Edwards played well, i loved how Edwards responded to...

Beat Down!

Total domination tonight with a must win. The defense was stellar, and the offense clicked. Other than the interceptions by Goff, not much to complain about. That one felt good, real good. Watching Wilson on the sideline with his head in his hands, and a pained looking Carroll mouthing "Is that on us?" after a penalty was called late in the game........priceless.
