  • RAMarkable's S.O.S. Mock 1.0

The S.O.S stands for Save our Spags. As it is not much of a stretch at this point to say that the Rams will finish at 1-15 this year, I have used this assumption to arrive at a mock that I believe is reasonable not only for next year but also for the future going forward.

Therefore I submit the following for your consideration:

Round 1. Ndamakong Suh DT Nebraska Surprise!! Well, not really. This is about the closest thing to a perfect storm for the Rams as the probable best player in the draft also fills a huge need.

Round 2. Sean Weatherspoon OLB Missouri A new 'Spoon to replace the old departed one. Rams continue to strive to beef up their front seven with an athletic playmaker from right in their backyard.

Round 3. Ciron Black OT LSU A senior veteran of the SEC wars and a 3 year starter. It is my assumption that Jason Smith will move to the left tackle spot (Buh-Bye Baby Alex) and this will open up a spot at the right tackle position. Most likely A. Goldberg will start the season but by week 5 or so expect Mr. Black to grab the job.

Round 4. Anthony Dixon RB Mississippi State Steven Jackson is on pace for about 350+ touches this year and that is way too much. At 235 lbs. Dixon can hopefully take some of the load off #39 and yet keep the Rams running the same kind of power-based run attack that Spags has said he wanted from the get go.

Round 5. Sean Canfield QB Oregon State With his excellent senior year Canfield has shot up draft boards and could be a candidate for developmental QB behind Bulger next year. At this point I'd be content to let Canfiled fight it out with Boller and Null and see what happens.

Well that's it for now. The 6th and 7th rounds will be added to a future mock as we get further along in the process.

    WHAT SAY YE?

    Re: RAMarkable's S.O.S. Mock 1.0

I really like this mock draft.

Obvious concerns are that we don't draft a franchise QB and we don't get any help at WR or TE. But we have too many holes to fill them all, and considering how many holes we would fill with this draft, I'll take it.

WR is definitely a hole, but with another year of experience and some time to gel, our WR will hopefully be improved even without any additions. By no means will it be good - but it will be servicable, and that's a step up. As far as TE goes, that's a hole I can live with.

DE is still a concern, I wouldn't mind picking up a DE in rnd 2 rather than an OLB.

Really like it, though. Can't wait to see Suh and Long blowing up the backfield for the next decade.

If the rams can somehow get ur 1rst 2 picks, i think the D would be fun to watch next year no matter what the offense does.

I do like your 4th pick of Anthony Dixon from Mississippi State. If he is there when the rams make their 4th pick they would steal the second best RB in the SEC.

I like this mock. I can definitely see the first three rounds panning out. Like the Weatherspoon pick for sure.

            Re: RAMarkable's S.O.S. Mock 1.0

Let me just remind of something. In the begging of the season what who were we holding accountable for our losses?

The entire offense (exception of Steven Jackson)

The offense was getting off the field quick which made the D keep running out there and they were tired in the 2nd half or 4th quarter.

So i'd really want Clausen but Suh is unblockable and if we pick first i wouldn't mind getting Suh.

But Weatherspoon? Do we need to draft a outside linebacker that high?

If we go Suh in the 1st there is no way we leave round 2 without a QB or TE NO WAY!

Ciron Black is more of a late 1st early 2nd round talent

No more developmental QB! Why did we draft Null if we are just gunna get another developmental QB?

1.) Well hell yeah we need an OLB. Fact is we probably need 2 unless you are satisfied with the likes of Lenin, Vobora, Grant and Chamberlain-guys who would not start any where else in the league. One of the reasons we cannot stop the run is because of crummy LB play.

Besides, I don't think the Rams have drafted a quality OLB since they've been in St. Louis. It's about time. (And don't give me Pisa. He was actually a strong safety blown up to play OLB.)

2A) You need to look at this pick from Spags' (and Devaney, for that matter) point of view. What is he going to do with another spread system QB that probably won't see the field in 2010? Develop him for the next coach after he's fired?

Look, the man is going to go 1 and 15. His "grace" period is up and he's now firmly on the hot seat. Heck, Cam Cameron got fired in Miami for the same record. This is why the thread was named "SOS". These are the kind of picks that Spags will want to make for as quick a turnaround as possible.

2B.) No more developmental QB? What in the world do you think the 2 noodle-arms, Pike/McCoy are? Heh...Do you really think that Spags has the time to teach these guys how to take a direct snap from the Center?

The first 3 picks of this mock are all players with enough talent, hopefully, to start ASAP.

Remember the battle-cry: SAVE OUR SPAGS!!...and Billy, too.

1.) Thanks for your response Nick. As far as WR goes according to my reckoning we have got the following on the roster:
                D. Avery
                L. Robinson
                K. Burton
                B. Gibson
                D. Amendola
                R. Martin
                J. Kent
                B. Foster

That's 8 pretty young guys; that's a lot for any NFL team. Seems to me if we need anything it's a veteran or two to balance out all of this youth. Someone else posted a list of potential FAs available at the end of this year. I'd rather look at some of them than draft yet another young guy.

2.) Totally agree with you here on a DE. In fact I was going to go in that direction, but just didn't think any DE could beat Weatherspoon as far as value is concerned. Of course that could definitely change as we move along toward D-Day.

I like this mock for you guys. Weatherspoon has had a down year, but he's the best strictly 4-3 LB in the draft.

I don't know if Dixon will be around in the 4th... it would be a great value pick, though.

                    1) Yea we need an OLB but we don't need to take one as early as 2nd round. Also we do not need 2. I think David Vabora is a solid OLB. He has done a good job. I don't think it is worth it for a team with our needs to draft a 4-3 OLB in the early 2nd round. Do you have alternate pick for the 2nd round?

2A) i don't think i ever said a spread system QB. And the behind center thing we run a WCO we can incorporate more shotgun passes.

2B) What i meant by developmental QB is a QB that is projected to be a back-up like a mid-late rounder. We drafted Null Last year in the 6th. Does this guy have significant talent that is greater than NULL for us to waste a 5th rounder on

Also if Spags wants to save his job he better gets some offensive playmakers and get people the can move the ball downfield. Because i see the improvements on Defense Spags is doing fine there but our Offense is awful.

If we want to save spags we need to score so we need playmakers!

Is Canfield even playing? I thought that Mike Reilly (not the Rams guy from CWU) was still their quarterback.

                        I love it.

This is going to be a defensive team. We need to build a young, power house defense to play for many years. If we can land the two first rounds, I'd be happy.

As for the QB situation, it's important to let Null play the rest of the year. See what he has to offer before we take another QB next year. So, I can agree with your fifth round pick here.

I did notice the running back. We really need a solid back up. I think Jackson's back hurting is a sign that he touches the ball too much. I like the one-two punch some teams have, we can certainly use it.

Thanks for your kind words, Mooselini. I can definitely feel your excitement over the coming draft. If the Rams play their cards right this draft could go a long way toward our return to dominance.

BTW quick question for you. How did you find my mock considering that it had already been removed from the first page of the Draft & FA board?

Here is my Rams mock draft as of 08/02
                              • 1.01 - Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska - Enough said.
                              • 2.01 - Jahvid Best, RB, California - An explosive runner who would be the perfect complement for SJax, keeping him healthy and extending his career by several seasons. Also brings a much needed home run threat to the offense.
                              • 3.01 - Dan LeFevour, QB, Central Michigan - A developmental QB with a good arm and great mobility. Has tremendus potential and will take the helm of the offense in 2 or 3 years.
                              • 4.01 - Jared Veldheer, OT, Hillsdale - A monster of a tackle with surprising agility. Has the ability to start immediately at right tackle and be a dominant force on the right end for years to come.
                              • 5.01 - Jimmy Graham, TE, Miami - Converted basketball player with great height and agility. Has the potential to be the next Antonio Gates.
                              • 5.24 - Dekoda Watson, OLB, Florida State - An athletic freak with a great work ethic and tremendous upside. Could possibly gain the starting role opposite David Vobora.
                              • 6.01 - Devin Ross CB, Arizona - Has a surprising amount of potential for a late round pick. Will provide much needed depth at CB.
                              • 7.01 - O'Brien Schoefield, DE, Wisconsin - A great pass rusher who was a projected 2nd or 3rd round prospect who tore his ACL at a Senior Bowl practice. He may have to be placed on IR for his first year, but he has the potential to be a dominant edge rusher.
                              • 7.19 - Guard depth.

Let me know what you think, and don't hold back on any criticism.

Here is different perspective on the Rams mock draft!
                              by BarronWade
IMO an OT is a lock for us with the 2nd pick. Before anyone enlarges the word lock just remember i said IMO. Anyway other that the 2nd pick i put together a mock draft that is different from all the mocks ive read. I tried my best to put players that other mocks did not project for us. REMEMBER i am aiming for a different prospective. I just want to know what u guys think about this draft.

                              Round 1: Eugene Monroe OT
                              Round 2: Jarron Gilbert DE/DT
i know what ur all thinking but Justin Tuck is a great DL that can play DE and DT which works well gor spags. Did i just say Justin Tuck i meant Jarron Gilbert im always getting those 2 confused.
                              Round 3: Rashad Jennings RB
We just signed Jason Brown so that tells you we are going to run up the middle we get a RB that is 6-1 230 pounds. He is the perfect #2 back. He can catch well and block. He is also durable enuff to take over if Action Jackson goes down. Did i mention Jennings is fast for a guy his size so he can fill in that Change of pace.
                              Round 4: Antonio Appleby MLB
Okay the only one I can recall that has appleby is AvengerRam. Few weeks ago i was picking this guy as our undrafted rookie but as AV put his stock is rising and because we havnet addressed a MLB yet appleby is our guy unless Tyronne McKenzie is there.
                              Round 5: Brandon Tate WR
Okay this guy is not the tall WR we are looking for he is about 6-0. But he is a good return man. He also can leap for the ball to make for the height. THis guy is also good at seperation. So since i did not address it yet here it is a WR that can play the slot.
                              Round 6: Graham Harrell QB
I just dont see why everyone is so high on Brandstater. I think Harrell just needs some coaching. But he makes real good decision and that can pay off in the WCO.
                              ROund 7: Victor Toal OLB
THis guy can add depth at OLB spot. He had 21.5 TFL last year and 12 sacks this guy can get into the backfield.

                              1. Ndamukong Suh DT- The most dominating Dtackle I ever seen.

                              2. Colt McCoy QB- A true winner and is capable of being a starting QB in the NFL.

                              3. Jimmy Graham TE- Amazing athlete, and a really good redzone threat.

                              4. Austen Lane DE- A good pass rusher, can be part of our rotational Dline.

                              5. Sam Young OT- Great depth, and could start at RG or RT.

                              5. Trindon Holliday KR/PR/WR- Great depth, could return kicks and punts, and can also be a slot receiver.

                              6. Cornelius Brown CB- Good depth.

                              7. Shawnbrey McNeal RB- Good depth, change of pace for SJAX.

                              7. Verran Tucker WR- Good depth, can be groomed into a starter....

                              1. Vernon Gholston (DE - Ohio St.) - can not pass on this ridiculous athlete. I've seen him compared to Merriman and Adalius Thomas. I'll take it. Also fills HUGE need.
                              2. Reggie Smith (SS/CB - Oklahoma) - excellent versatility. Can help out at CB if Fakhir decides to burn a few. Also can eventually replace Chavous at SS.
                              3. Will Franklin (WR - Mizzou) - speed merchant on the outside can fill the need for a deep threat. Admittedly a bit of a homer pick on my part, but he will go in this range.
                              4. Jeremy Zuttah (OL - Rutgers) - again, Versatility! Can play all the OL spots. I've heard he may be an excellent Center prospect as well.
                              5. Kevin O'Connell (QB San Diego St.) - intriguing developmental QB prospect. We've had some luck sith SDSU products, too.
                              6. Gary Guyton (OLB - Georgia Tech) - LB depth with solid measurables.
                              7. Tommy Blake (DE - TCU) - Excellent talent with serious off-field issues. But at round 7, why not?

I realize my draft takes a huge leap of faith with our o-line - hoping Pace can stay healthy, Barron finally gets it, etc. But we have so many holes, there is no way we can address them all in one draft.

                              Alternatives -

I was torn on Smith and James Hardy (WR - Indiana) at the top of the second round. I really like Hardy, he ran excellent times at the Combine at 6'6" and seems to fit Linehan's mold of receivers. I see him as a Plax Burress type. Not sure if Saunders would like the big WR, though.

If we were to go with Hardy in Round 2, it would alter the following picks. Maybe take Carl Nicks (OT - Neb) at the top of round 3 and hope Zbikowski (S- ND) falls to top of round 4.

                              Thoughts??

Rich Tree Rams' Mock Offseason - Pre-Combine
                              by richtree
Yeah, Yeah I fell victim and drew up a mock offseason for the Rams.

It is so hard because we don't know the deal with the CBA yet, but here's what I did. I wanted to avoid trading draft picks.

                              Draft

                              Round 1 - Ndamukong Suh (DT) <---Beast
                              Round 2 - Tony Pike (QB) <---Huge Potential/NFL Body
                              Round 3 - George Selvie (DE) <--Great Athelte/Rusher
Round 4 - Danario Alexander (WR) <--Freak Athelticism
Round 5 - LeGarrett Blount (RB) <--Power and attidue on offense
Round 5 - Adrian Tracy (OLB) <-- Looks good on the outside
Round 6 - Shawn Lauvao (OG) <-- Size and Depth
Round 7 - Casey Nips (OT) Huge guy out of South Dakota St
                              Round 7 - Ryan Perrillooux (QB) <--High Risk/High Reward

                              Free Agents

Michael Vick (QB) -- Start while Pike is grooming
Tony Scheffler (TE) - True West Coast TE
D.J Ware (RB) - Great change of pace back
Ellis Hobbs (CB) - Nickel Corner if Wade can't do it
Carlos Rogers (CB) - Out of Favor in Washington/good talent
Clint Ingram (OLB) - Needs to be in 4-3 / Jax plays 3-4
Antonio Pierce (OLB) - Vetern leadership

**Julius Peppers (DE) -- I left him out to be realistic but obviously he would be perfect here.

                              Staying

                              Victor Adeyanju
                              O.J. Atogwe
                              Craig Dahl
                              Clifton Ryan
Leonard Little - if no peppers
Alex Barron - If we gotta

Overall, I think this would be a great off-season. We have high draft picks, a new owner, and money to spend. Lets do it.

I think I have addressed all our issues. The only area that I struggled with is Offensive Tackle. I really don't want Barron but don't know where to get a servicable Right Tackle without overspending in free agency. I could see drafting one earlier if we love a guy that slips in the draft.

I didn't want to summarize each player until we know about CBA and post combine.

                              Thanks for looking.
