  • No Suh for you!

I've been doing some thinking, and I don't think I can go through another season with an average or late round quarterback as out future.

Suh is ***THE*** most coveted player in the draft. We control his fate, and we get what want in whatever trade there is. Everyone in the league would love to have him, but Suh as a DT cannot make the same impact as a franchise, Manning/Brady/Breesesque QB.

TRADE DOWN! Even if only a few spots, we still get Bradford or Clausen, we pull off a Chargers/Giants type trade and get all sorts of picks to fill ALL the holes we have.

    PASS ON SUH! TRADE DOWN!

What makes you think Bradford or Claussen are the next best QBs?

Simple Solution: Sign Mike Vick for two years and Draft Suh. Look for Locker in 2011 draft....

I find it funny that you include Brees and Brady in your argument.

Brees was drafted at the end of the second round.

Brady was drafted in the sixth round.

Your draft position does not guarantee success.

sign Pennington for a one year deal. hold off one more year for a qb or look for whosever available in the second

Better solution, sign pennington, campbell, or orton to a two year contract, so we actually have a decent QB to try and mentor a round 2 or 3 pick

yeah pennington, campbell or even garcia could come in and play for a year or two at least - campbell could possibly be a long-term answer.

Orton is restricted CBA or not. Pennington no thanks. I would like Campbell, I think he is the best possible option, but what does the new coach do with him?

If I had a crystall ball and I knew Locker would be there for the Rams in 2011, then I'd do it in a second. Alas, we aren't privy to that information, which is exactly why teams draft a QB when they can regardless of who is coming out the following year.

As for the original question, there is no franchise QB in this draft IMO. If Bradford hadn't gotten injured and he proved he could perform behind a sub-par line this season, then he would be that franchise guy. I still think spending a top 8 pick on one of them (depending how far back we trade if we went in that direction) is a bit of a risk. Unless we are overwhelmed with an offer, I would stay put and draft Suh.

Unless the offer is amazing - and though Suh is highly regarded, I don't think it will be because of the contract cost and the cost in picks - then I probably would not move out of the top spot.

We'll still be able to get a decent QB in the top of round 2 and get King Kong... why not do that?

                            Re: No Suh for you!

Who says there will be a QB in the 2nd? We thought Freeman would fall and the Bucs took him in the late first round.

Suh is the best player. Period. Everyone wants him, which is why we capitalize, pick up another first rounder to move back a few picks, and we get a quarterback early. I can't take another season of garbage offense and a "stopgap" at quarterback.

So we get Vick and don't make the playoffs. We wait for Locker or whoever the supposed franchise guy is next year.

So we get Campbell and don't make the playoffs. We wait for Locker or whoever the supposed franchise guy is next year.

So we get Pennington and don't make the playoffs. We wait for Locker or whoever the supposed franchise guy is next year.

Then what? We rebuild around a rookie quarterback NEXT year and extend this project?

Lets make the most of the first overall. We will get a helluva deal in this bidding war for Suh, and Clausen or Bradford are the overwhelming favorites as best quarterback. We need to fill more holes than DT, and all of you know that. Suh isn't going to make this defense a perennial powerhouse, just like Glenn Dorsey (or Jimmy Kennedy, or Ryan, or Carriker, or Long or any of these superstar DLineman have) did.

Do you guys remember the hype around Chris Long? Dorsey? Any of these guys aforementioned? Suh is the best, clearly, among these guys. We know that. But I would rather roll the dice on a franchise QB, get extra picks and probably ANOTHER first rounder for next year to move back.

                            Done.

                            Adios

And seriously, think about it. Chargers and Giants for instance, in the dumps, go get Manning and Rivers. Both are competitors for the superbowl. The quarterback has the ball EVERY play, and Suh might make an impact on 20-30% of plays.

You tell me an *average* QB can take this team somewhere. Suh can't make our QB any better, and he damned well isn't going to magically pick the defense up and make us playoff bound (like we've predicted with Long, Carriker, blah blah blah)

                                THE WATERCOOLER

QUESTION: Now that the Rams have secured the No. 1 overall pick in next April’s NFL draft, do you think Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh is the clear-cut choice, or is there another player you might consider in that spot? Or, with so many needs, do you think it might behoove the Rams to trade down and secure more early-round draft choices?

                                JIM THOMAS
With so many needs, obviously the best scenario would be a trade-down that was too good to refuse. But trades at the No. 1 overall position don’t happen all that often. For now, Suh remains the clear-cut choice.

                                BILL COATS
The Rams might well like to trade down, but the days of gaining a raft of picks for the top spot in the draft appear to be over. Teams covet their picks, plus they know the big dollars a No. 1 overall will cost them. Suh looks like a strong front-runner at this point, although GM Billy Devaney and his personnel folks haven’t even begun to work on their draft board yet.

                                JEFF GORDON
Suh seems to offer a best-case scenario: a still-developing player with huge athletic potential. Many college players max out their ability in college after years of weightlifting. Suh, by contrast, came to Nebraska as a raw talent — and he didn’t really take off until this season, when he finally polished up his technique. Scouts seem to believe he will keep improving. The opportunity to add such a disruptive force at the point of attack is hard to resist. But . . . if the Rams could move down two or three spots and add some more high picks in the process, that is worth considering. Such deals are rare these days, but Suh apparently is a rare commodity.

                                Not Suh
                                by Molotov
The problem I have with drafting Suh is, I actually think our interior DL is pretty good at the moment.

If you bring on Suh, that gives you Douzable, Ramsey, Gibson, Scott, Ryan, and Suh. Meanwhile, on the edge, we have Long, Victor, and Hall. This could all change via free agency, of course.

All of our interior guys are decent players, and Scott and Ryan are actually pretty good. Our edge guys are okay, but do not provide consistent pressure on opposing QBs. And I am not convinced that Suh will provide a pass rush in the NFL.

So the actual improvement of the team will be marginal with the addition of Suh. We need game changers. We need edge rushers, shut down corners, big play WRs, and a stud QB. If we add Suh, we will STILL need edge rushers, shut down corners, big play WRs, and a stud QB.

I would rather have Spiller, Bryant, Berry, or Clausen. These guys appear to be the game changers that rate as top 5 picks.

no way CLaussen gets chosen.... this team needds The NEXT BEST TALENT on the board and that is BERRY ...look how pathetic the Steelers Defense is without Polumalu ( its crazy that one player makes that big of a difference btw)
.....yes ofcourse i know the rams lack D line talent/depth ...but come on Spagnoulo has an eye for talent in that field.....look a the giants d line when they won that superbowll... ..the moajority of those guys were later round talent!!! .... If OJ goes and we get pick out of it ...hopefully we cant spend those on fillin out key postions.....i now goin from a B- to and A isnt that big of an upgrade but come. on ...in the long run.....it will damn well be worth it!!!!!:helmet::helmet::helmet:

Money....Money Money Money. Suh reportedly has the same agent that Crabtree had last season. The same agent that notoriously causes rookie holdouts with every client he gets including the likes of Emmitt Smith, Larry Fitz, Walter Jones....Mr. Eugene Parker. If your a franchise hard up for cash and desperately need all your assets in camp come spring, this is a nasty development. He gets TOP dollar for all his clients and could likely cause Suh to be the most overpaid player......ever. Our franchise's state and Suh's stock could make this get out of hand.

Hopefully Suh isn't the type of guy that will make this get too ugly. I'd seriously be shopping the pick around for a good deal at this point. In im number one I still take Suh but if I can trade down and get a reasonable deal in the process...i take it.
