  • Free Agent wide receivers anyone?

As many can attest, the receiving corps we currently have is nowhere near the caliber of the corps we had at any point in the Martz Era. In particular, the absence of a true #1 guy is a definite problem that needs to be addressed.

Many have called for addressing that position within the draft, however on that point I profoundly disagree. Outside of minor deficiencies in talent, the biggest problem with this group is their youth and lack of experience or veteran leadership. Drafting another rookie would not address this problem; rather it would exacerbate it.

So with all that written...are there any possible free agent #1 recievers to acquire? Perhaps that should be our "big free agent splash.

We aren't going to get a true number 1 WR in FA, because guys like Vincent Jackson, Miles Austin, and Brandon Marshall aren't going anywhere especially in an uncapped year. The Rams are going to have to draft someone, just like they are most likely going to have to draft their own franchise QB. I think this WR class is going to be really deep because many dynamic juniors will come out, and we can find a number 1 guy at the top of the second. Guys like Arrelious Benn, Demaryius Thomas, Damian Williams, Golden Tate, and my personal favorite Brandon Lafell could all be available. IMO we could definately get one in the draft.

I seriosuly wouldnt mind TO at all. Can still make plays at 36. And has gotten a lot quieter with his mouth and not the locker room headache he was before. Even though most players actually liked him in the locker room. Its just when he went tot he media which was the prob. He has great experience and skill. Would be a great addition IMO

Whatever happened to Chad Jackson? 2006 second round pick from Florida, Guy had great hands and ran a 4.32 40 yard dash. Right now hes just sitting in free agency waiting to be snapped up, Rams could sign him for next to nothing...

          What do you guys think?

If we can get a big name in FA that would be cool but I don't want to see us using anymore late round picks on WR projects.

I still hold out hope that Avery, Robinson, Gibson and Danny Boy can become a pretty dangerous receiving core.

They just have to stay healthy, catch the ball, not fumble and avoid getting cut.

I personally wouldn't mind TO either, of course he is not what he once was talent wise, but would still be our best and most dangerous wide out. I personally never had a problem with his mouth, always thought it was media fueled, he has definitely toned it down in quiet little buffalo.

TO is 36, If we were a contender maybe. He isn't going to be around when we really hit our stride.

he could be a stop gap at WR till we develop the rest of them

and we can put off drafting a WR in the earlier rounds till next year..

We still have to see what Brooks Foster can do. He may not be a #1, but I am not sure what a #1 designation means over having good separation, run precise routes and have good hands.

                    Go Rams!

My impression is that receivers don't really need the quarterback-like sit-and-groom period. If we're counting on our young guys to develop at receiver, then getting them as many reps as possible would be ideal.

I'm still of the opinion that this team needs a true #1 receiver (or heck, at least a dangerous tight end), a guy in the passing game that has to be accounted for by defenses. I don't think we have that, even when some guys get healthy and improve a bit. And I doubt an elite receiver hits the free agent market, especially if 2010 is an uncapped year.

If there's talent at the top of round two at receiver, it has to be a consideration.
