  • B Dub's Mock off-season

Now that the Rams season is officially over (except Steven Jackson's Pro bowl) It's time for a Mock:

    Rams to Be Re-signed:

DT Cliff Ryan- Had a good year and is a RFA
TE Dan Fells- Pretty good TE showed upside
DE James Hall- Veteran that is still a productive back up
FS OJ Atogwe- FRANCHISED- Defensive playmaker that is needed
DE Leonard Little- I just do not understand why we let him go when he is our best pass rusher. Yea Chris Long may do better on the left side but then who will play on the right side? I think we should keep Little and see what happens during the season just in case someone loses there starting DE and wants to trade. But letting go of Little is a huge mistake and will make our line worse.
Marc Bulger-No he is not a free agent but we will re-structure his deal

    Free Agents:

OLB Chris Gocong- With spoon now in Phili; Gocong is probably out. He has connections with Spags and the eagles so this is a good possibility.

CB Roderick Hood- Veteran presence should come cheap. An improvement over John Wade. Also Hood can start.

OT Ryan CookHe has started at RT before for the Vikings. If Jason Smith moves to LT than we need a RT so let's see if cook can be that guy.

RB Jerious Norwood Fast back. Change of pace to Steven Jackson

QB Mike Vick I fear this is going to turn into a Mike Vick thread which im hope it doesnt. Let me start by saying he is not the STARTER. Marc Bulger is the starter. The move is not for Bulger and Vick to be on the field at the same time (so no wildcat). If you noticed something about the offense its very straight forward nothing really to keep the opposing D-coordinator working overtime for. Our biggest trick play is probably a Jackson draw. We need something to make the the opposing Defenses guessing. Bringing in Vick in the redzone like the eagles do is a good thing. But also on some 1st or 2nd down's make him run an option with Jackson or let him throw it deep cuz Bulger can't do that anymore.

    2010 Draft (5 rounds)[/COLOR]

Round 1 (1)- DT Ndamukong Suh Nebraska
    Obvious pick

Round 2 (33)- TE Jermaine Gresham, Oklahoma
Alternate Pick- QB Colt McCoy, Texas

With Gresham's injury he may drop to the top of the 2nd round and he would be a great pick-up. But in all likely hood he will go in the 1st and if he does we should get Colt McCoy.

Round 3 (65) RG Mike Johnson, Alabama
Run blocking guard. big 6-5 305 pounds. Struggles vs. the pass thou but explodes off the ball

Round 4 (97) DE Austen Lane, Murray State
A DE with good athleticism and good size 6-6 260. Powerful. However he needs to improve his technique and needs some coaching. Spags can teach him about getting penetration.

Round 5 (129) WLB AJ Edds, Iowa
average WLB. He can tackle and has some speed. IF he doesnt become a starter he can play some good special teams.

Round 5 (late 5th from eagles) CB Brian Jackson Oklahoma
Decent CB. Played D in the Big 12. is iight in coverage good size 6-1 200 pounds.

With this draft we have 3 immediate starters in Suh, Johnson and Gresham and 1 soon to be starter in lane

If Gresham is off the board its Colt McCoy.

But if Gresham stays we have the targets and options for a QB in place. So it's either trade a 2011 draft pick for Kolb or see what the season shows us in Bulger.

Remember Spags needs to show improvements in the win column for next year or he will get the axe. Bulger will be 33 next year and in QB years he still has time. He kept us in games something Boller and NUll didnt do. And remember he did not turn it over too much.

        Hey BarronWade

Let me start by saying there is no way the 2nd one will happen because the bucs need to build a franchise so there are not going to give up there top 3 rounds for SUh when G. McCoy or Eric Berry is theres

The reason i dont have us re-signing Barron is because we need smart players that know how to play football. I think Barron might be successful elsewhere with plenty of coaching and talent around him

With all the issues we have we cannot go D-line with our 1st 2 picks. Carimi might go in the 2nd but he would be a great pick up for us and our style of Offense. Never seen thomas austin play nor do i know much about him so i cant argue that. Luther Brown had so much talent around him and he is a 1 year wonder so id say no. Jimmy Graham is fine. and the 7th round is hard to determine right now.

            Re: B Dub's Mock off-season

I love everything except the TE choice. Yes, he would make a good player, but I think we can go through free agency for that. It really is time to pick a QB of the future. I did read your other post, but I think QB comes way before TE. Especially since we are in full rebuild mode. If there is a QB that intrigues us at 33, whether it be McCoy or Pike, we need to snag them and let them learn under Bulger.

Vick does sound good. Whether we get him, I'm not sure. But I do enjoy the redzone confusion for defenses.

I think that if Gresham is available in the second round, his value out weighs any QB who would be available except for maybe Bradford or Clausen.

                by HUbison
If everybody else is going to throw out one of these, why not me? Surely I can do better than TSN...

Round 1 (19) - Jamaal Brown OT (Oklahoma) - The best pass blocker in college football goes to the team that needs the best pass blocker in college football

Rd. 2 (18-50) - Josh Bullocks FS (Nebraska) - With Thomas Davis showing he has the skills to play S at his pro day, Bullocks will fall to #50. He's a smart playmaker in the secondary and exactly what the Rams need to replace Aeneas.

Rd. 3 (2-66) - Darrant Williams CB (Okie St.) - This may be the Rams annual reach pick. Whispers have it that the Rams love this guy. If the league sticks to their "more skill, less wrestling" approach to pass coverage, he could be a solid nickel, maybe even #2 corner. But he is a top-notch return man with amazing speed and agility.

Rd. 3 (17-81) - Ray Willis OT (Fl. State) - The Rams finally leave the Big 12 with their 4th pick. If Brown is not there in the 1st, this pick is a sure thing, if not 15 slots earlier. Willis is a solid RT who can handle a bull rush from any DE in the league. Speed rushers will give him some problems, but his run blocking is second to none. While Bulger will enjoy the Brown pick, this pick will excite Jackson and Faulk.

Rd. 4 (16-117) - George Gause DE (S Carolina) - Gause was disappointed to see 11 DEs go on Day 1 without his name being called, but he doesn't have to wait long on Day 2. He's a run stopper from the DE spot. He won't rack up Little sack numbers, but will stuff any RB that heads his way.

Rd. 4 (33-134 comp.) - Robert McCune ILB (Louisville) - The rise of other ILBs like Adam Seward and Kirk Morrison has pushed the Combine's physical freak of nature into the 4th round. The fact that he is a 26-year-old rookie with limited experience pushes him into the comp. picks at the end of the round. But hey, he literally is the fastest and strongest ILB in the entire draft. The Rams will take a chance on him.

Rd. 5 (19-155) - Joel Dressen TE (Colo. St.) - Dressen finds himself in a weak TE class that nobody is too interested in this year. No one is excited about the TE prospects as a whole and Dressen finds himself available in the 5th. He's a good receiver, but needs to work on his blocking. Will compete with Jenson as our #3 TE, unless he shows that he can fit into the H-back role.

Rd. 6 (18-192) - CJ Brooks OG/OT (Maryland) - Brooks has the versatility that Martz likes in his young O-lineman. His natural position is guard, but he could play tackle if needed. Great heart and a nasty disposition on the field, solid but not great as both run blocker and pass blocker.

Rd. 6 (36-210) - Sione Pouha DT (Utah) - The Anti-Martzites go ape nuts with the Rams 2nd 26-year-old rookie draft choice. Pouha is a solid run stuffer inside. He won't get to the QB much, but will be the perfect...

You guy's hurt my feeling when i went off on my CRAZY draft . and so of you LIKED IT . i really thought that the 1-2 pick of LONG and Q. GROVES would really improve the rams , and i still do . BUT here is an even kieled way i tried to look at it , as i would if i was drafting for a team .

                here we go .

                1st - C.LONG - DE - gotta have it .

2ND- C. NICKS- OT- gotta have it 2. he should push starter BARRON. nice.

                3RD- D. AVERY- WR - GHI -3 . RAMS size receiver 5-10 / 6.0 , 180 , SPEED.

                4TH- C. JACKSON- CB- blockbuster trade ? BROWN's reliability ? insurance !

                5TH- J. SULLIVAN-C - ROMBERG anyone ? is FRY our C or G depth .BIGJOHN

6TH- D. JACKSON- WR - small school , big talent . a 2nd speed guy if its ok.

6TH-J. LEMAN- MLB - a bit slow , but a heart player, this could be a steal .

7TH- W. WOODYARD -S -this kid is just the same. a heart player. love em.

O.K. guy's , i tried again , i had a real tuff time taking off players i thought we should get and replacing them with more of a need thingy.

                2nd rd - i liked SWEED-WR , D. THOMAS -WR
                3RD RD- T.HILLS-T
                4TH RD- E. AINGE - QB , J. GRECO- OL
                6TH RD- M. GIBSON- OT/OG

so i hope this was more the style you guy's were looking for . GREAT DAY'S AHEAD .

                7TH- W. WOODYARD- S

                BarronWade's mock off-season
                by BarronWade
So right now we are 0-7 and this is the way i think our off season will go down

First: Pat Shurmur is released (finally). Giants RB coach Jerald Ingram fills that spot hopefully he can do something.

Second: Bulger reconstructs his contract to keep his job as Rams starter (for now).

                RE-SIGN:
TE Dan Fells about 3-4 yrs.
Receiving TE can help if we cannot get a good receiver in the draft. Even if we do Fells is a good 2nd catching TE like Shincoe was in NY.

OG/C Richie Incognito about 1-2 yrs
At this point we do not need to create a whole at Guard. So we get cogs for the short term and find a suitable starter in the next yr or 2.

                DE James Hall 1yr
I think Little will either retire or spend one more year elsewhere. So we need a veteran leader and Hall has played well for us.

                DT Cliff Ryan 4-5 yrs
Give me 1 reason why we wont re-sign our best DT that is only 25 right now.

                DB John Wade 1 yr
He is a restricted free agent so we will obviously tender him if someone else wants him they give us a 1st rounder. or 3rd depending on how much we tender him.

                S Craig Dahl 2-3 yrs
                pleasant surprise for us.

                OJ Atogwe 2 yrs
I think if we cannot re-sign him we will just put the franchise on him then he will negotiate a deal for about 2 yrs and see the direction of the team.

                Key Depatures:
DE Leonard Little (see james hall)
OG Jacob Bell (i dont see him reconstructing his deal which will get him cut)
                TE Randy McMicheal (good riddance)
OT Alex Barron (penalties aside he is having a good year; i think we low ball him and some team gives him big bucks and a long term deal because of his size and talent. )
OLB Paris Lenon (why would we resign an average 32 yr old.
QB Kyle Boller (he could not protect the Boll)
DE Victor Adeyenju (we kept on keeping him inactive i dont think spags likes him)
RB Ken Darby (not as good a blocker as last year)

NOTE: For all of you that think we can sign Breaston or Moore: why would young receivers destined for a good future come to the Rams that have QB issues?

                Key Arrivals:
                DT Barry Coefield
This is a popular one because the G-men have depth on DL and Coefield will start with the Rams. He has conections with Spags.

                LB Chris Gocong
He has connections with spags. He is a big LB. THe eagles just got spoon so they probably wont keep him. Your probably thinking why would he switch to OLB and come to the Rams. This will be the guy we give alot of money/ incentives to. He will be our "major" FA acquisition.

                WR Dominik Hixon
unlike us the Giants have young receivers that are all flourishing and Hixon may be dropped in favor of Smith, Manningham and Nicks. We are in need of WRs and...

                Another Mock Draft
                by msha
Rd. 1: Ndamukong Suh, DT Nebraska - To me, this is an easy decision. He will put much needed pressure on the qb and make the rest of the defense better.

Rd. 2: Sean Weatherspoon, OLB Missouri - If Weatherspoon is there, I think we should grab him. He could start from day 1, and be a big upgrade.

Rd. 3: Dan LeFevour, QB Central Michigan - He may not be as good as Bradford or Clausen, but he is an accurate and dual threat qb who had four great years at Central Michigan.

Rd. 4: Ed Dickson, TE Oregon - If the Rams don't get a TE through FA, they should consider drafting Dickson. He is a great athlete that can catch anything his way. He does need to work on his blocking, though.

Rd. 5: Jason Fox, OT Miami - He has the potential to be a 2nd-3rd rounder, but has injury/health questions. If he is still there, the Rams should take a chance on this experienced OT.

Rd. 5: John Jerry, OG Ole Miss - Jerry looked solid in the Senior Bowl, and could provide depth on the O-Line and will eventually be a starter. If he is available, this should be an easy pick.

Rd. 6: Freddie Barnes, WR Bowling Green - Barnes had an outstanding career at Bowling Green with an NCAA record 155 receptions last year. He doesn't have great speed, but has the potential to succeed.

Rd. 7: LeGarrette Blount, RB Oregon - He has character issues, but is very impressive when he plays. He had 7 carries for 35 yards and a td in the senior bowl and almost had a second td. A good power back behind SJax.

Rd. 7: O'Brien Schofield, DE Wisconsin - Schofield had the potential to be drafted in rds 2-3 before tearing his acl. If no other team takes him, the Rams should draft him and place him on IR for 2010.

I know this draft is very optimistic and some of the picks may not be available, but I would like to see your comments and criticism on this mock draft.
