I personally think that the key to success will be this offseason. Pick up a good leader and QB in Jason Campbell. Also we could use a big name WR like Brandon Marshall, Miles Austin, or even Vincent Jackson. This would change the entire pace of our offense and open up a better running game with SJAX and even give us a passing game. Then in the draft we take Ndamukong Suh. And try something out like trading your 2nd and 4th for a 1st in the 20's or even draft a good OLB in the 2nd round. What do you guys think?

My two immediate thoughts on this...
1) Clinton Portis was just in the news not too long ago criticizing Jason Campbell for lack of leadership. Take that for what it's worth.
2) I'll be shocked if Brandon Marshall, Miles Austin, or Vincent Jackson hit the free agent market this offseason. The only one I see as being available via trade is Marshall, who will cost an arm and a leg both in picks and money, and may not even fit the character profile of this team. -

We have to take some kind of gamble, and personally i cant see us being much better without the players to show for it. Or if we have to, we can get Troy Smith similar QB to Jason Campell and then offer something for Marshall. And yes i heard about the Portis and Campbell incident.

I've been a fan of Mardy Gilyard for a while now at Cincinatti. I'm not a Cincy fan at all, but this guy is just explosive and fun to watch. He single-handedly turned around that game against Pitt with his kick return for a TD when they were down by a lot to spark a big comeback.Comment

Clinton Portis was criticising Campbell's leadership, but only because he wanted to be named team captain over Campbell. Campbell, however, came back with some very good points, and made Portis look like a bit of an idiot. Campbell is a leader in a similar way to Marc Bulger is. And anyone who says Marc Bulger isnt a leader doesnt know what a leader is.Portis on Campbell:
"No disrespect to Jason, but everybody in that locker room can tell you, you'll never see Jason mad, you'll never see Jason's tempo change, you'll never see Jason get mad.
He going to get up, dust himself off, he going to give you everything he got. But as a leader, you never heard -- it was always, 'Jason couldn't take control of the huddle,' or he didn't do this or he didn't do that. That wasn't Jason's character.
I think Jason, you can't place so much on somebody who's not ready for that situation. I think Jason has enough trouble in getting the plays in and worrying about this, compared to controlling the huddle and making sure, 'Oh, we do this and we do that.' But you go and vote Jason Campbell [as captain] -- you know Jason Campbell ain't go and tell the coach, 'Well, we need to do this or we need to do that,' or 'This is how the players want it.'"
Campbell on Portis (in a phone interview with the Post's Jason Reid -- read the whole thing, it was nearly impossible to select the best excerpts to include here):
"How is he going to say I'm not a leader? I mean, that's just not true. To me, that's somebody who shows that they don't know what a real leader is. A leader is not someone who leads by the wrong example. A leader is someone who is trying to do the right thing and trying to lead by example, and not just [being] about themselves. There's a reason guys get selected as captains, and there's a reason guys don't get selected as captains. Obviously, he doesn't have the respect of the locker room to be a captain. For someone to try to take a shot at me at the end of the season, after they haven't even been around, only speaks about their character anyways ...
How's he [going to] question anything when for those four or five weeks before he was on IR [the season-ending injured-reserve list], he never even came around. He wasn't with us. He was never at practice. Who does he think was holding the offense together? He should go ask the coaches and the players if he wants to know. But he wasn't around to do that. The key to success this off season begins and ends at the line of scrimmage. If Suh and the defense can keep teams from blowin us out in the 4th quarter, we might steal a couple more wins.
if Jason Smith quits getting hit in the head and the O-line starts blocking something, Jackson might actually have half a chance, and Bulger might throw a little better if he can stay off his back.Comment
