  • Jamarcus Russell? In the event of his departure from Oakland..

Here's a scenario, if Jamarcus Russell was released from Oakland and istting in free agency. Would you make a move on him? He's said he's embarrassed out how he's played and will strive to play better in the future.

Knowing Al Davis isn't a patient man it's possible (although improbable due to contract obligations) that JMarc could be released. Do you take him and sit him on the bench in hopes to groom him or do you leave him alone.

I'd need a roll of duct tape to string together a series of ten foot poles to answer that question.

I would only take him if we found some way to also get Oaklands first round. So no, I wouldn't.

Maybe he could replace Barron, he's big enough to do it...

He's got all the physical tools to be a good QB, well except maybe the tool that enables you to hit the broad side of a barn, but as far as your scenario goes, I would pick him up as a backup. Looks like a no risk, high reward type of situation to me. This move would not have any sway over future plans at QB, just another strong arm who may have the potential to compete with our future QB with a little grooming and no pressure.

He couldn't beat out Bruce Gradkowski for the starting job in Oakland, then he couldn't beat out Charlie Frye. He also finished the season with the lowest quarterback rating, lowest completion percentage, fewest passing touchdowns, and fewest passing yards for any qualifying QB in the NFL.

Another good college QB who couldn't translate any success to the NFL. 2010 will be his 4th year and it looks to me like the mold is set for Russell. No thanks.

No, he's just like Kyle Boller, has great athleticism but lacks the intelligence to read defenses and throw the ball properly..

                  ____ no.

Till the day I die it will forever remain a mystery to me that not only was JaMarcus Russell taken #1, which normally you could excuse on the Raiders, but that he was widely regarded as the #1 prospect in the draft---mind blowing what one Sugar Bowl against a terrible ND defense did to his draft status.

He should have never played a down in the NFL, and that remains true today.

Jamarcus Russell? While he once had a lot of potential, I'd have to be in agreement with the rest of the crowd and say no.

Hey, at least it isn't another Vick thread.

Come on guys... can't you guys see our great three headed rotation of quarterbacks consisting of Vick, Russell, and Tim Tebow?! Shoot lets put all three of them on the field at the same time, talk about confusing defenses. After all everyone always says QB is the most important position, lets have three of them, thats how that kinda thing works right? Sure this is in jest... but it kinda gets ya thinking doesn't it?

Oh it doesn't. Well forget it then, guess we will just have to pick up a "Pro Style", "Franchise" "QB"

Wait quarterbacks are the ones who throw the ball? Gotcha.

OK in all seriousness, I don't see what it would hurt bringing the kid in. He can't command a big or even slightly expensive contract at this point. You never know, a change of scenery and a less demanding role could do wonders for him. Don't mistake this as a C-Mob pipe dream that Russell will turn into an All Pro, but stranger things have happened.

My main reason for putting up this thread is to see what other people thought on this. I for one am probably in the minority and would give him a shot in training camp. One cannot grow physical tools if it aint natural barring the use of steroids. The mental aspect of the game can be learned however. I think if Jmarc came to the game focused instead of off partying in vegas during meetings he could do some damage. I hate seeing wasted potential.

Guess im a sucker for second chances..

One of the main reasons i dont want Russell is not just because of his poor play so far, but that when questioned about his poor play he always seemed to take the attitude that it wasnt his fault, and that he thought he played fine.

You compare that to the attitudes of recent Rams draft picks like James Laurinaitis, Chris Long and Jason Smith, guys who look at their play and are never happy, and you can see why Russell's attitude is not welcome on this team.
