  • Problems with Drafting Suh?

Money....Money Money Money. Suh reportedly has the same agent that Crabtree had last season. The same agent that notoriously causes rookie holdouts with every client he gets including the likes of Emmitt Smith, Larry Fitz, Walter Jones....Mr. Eugene Parker. If your a franchise hard up for cash and desperately need all your assets in camp come spring, this is a nasty development. He gets TOP dollar for all his clients and could likely cause Suh to be the most overpaid player......ever. Our franchise's state and Suh's stock could make this get out of hand.

Hopefully Suh isn't the type of guy that will make this get too ugly. I'd seriously be shopping the pick around for a good deal at this point. In im number one I still take Suh but if I can trade down and get a reasonable deal in the process...i take it.

I can't say I disagree..I'm a big fan of Suh and I find this development annoying at best. He seems like such a high character guy, and he'd already be making a ton of money. If/when a new CBA comes along, I pray it has a cap for rookies because this is just getting ridiculous. If I were the Rams FO, I'd tell him flat out that he won't be drafted #1 unless he gets a deal done before the draft. The Rams absolutely can not afford a Crabtree-like holdout.

Begging your problem, but Crabtree's issue (besides the diva personality) was that he wanted to be paid more money than a wideout taken ahead of him. Which DT is going ahead of Suh again?

If we are happy with drafting Suh, I believe we can sign him before the draft unless they changed it. This means that they will likely know what type of price Suh is asking for before we pick him. I think that seriously levels the bargaining field. But you're right, this does worry me.

Plus he had a "posse" of advisors, including a meddling uncle who actually made a public statement that Crabtree might sit out the entire season and re-enter the following years draft. His situation was a circus.

Suh on the other hand comes from a rock solid, hard working family, where education and values always came first. I doubt his mom, who demanded he achieve a 3.0 GPA before he play football will allow any of the Crabtree type embarrassing antics.

As AtlantaRamFan and BigGame mentioned, the Rams have the option to try and get a deal done before the season and avoid any problems or holdouts. If there are problems, they can move on to another plan.

Keep in mind that often the first team to pick can negotiate the deal before the draft ever takes place. We could feasibly play Suh and the quarterbacks off each other prior to the draft. If we ultimately determined that Suh and Parker were being completely unreasonable, we actually could make that decision before the draft, which means that we have the leverage to tell him that if he doesn't like our deal, he'll just get picked later by a team that will offer him less than we will.

There's only one problem with this theory:

There's one person that trumps anyone including Eugene in Ndamukong's life:

              Mom.

Exactly what i was thinking, we don't HAVE to pick Suh first off. If we do not, and instead pick Mccoy or a Quarterback, he loses the "Number 1 pick" bargaining chip and can't demand as much money. On the other hand we'd miss out on the opportunity to trade down and get a quarterback or Mccoy anyway with an additional pick perhaps, which would be bad bargaining. Only way id throw this at Suh and his agent is if we were totally intent on getting him number 1 and were out of other ammo. Im sure they know of the possibility of a team trading with us to take him number 1 and could be really stubborn and for us to trade the pick away. Again however, i dont see it happening giving Suh's background, the bad outlook it would give him, and the stupidity of it all (do you really need to be the highest paid rookie ever when your still getting a ridiculous amount of money for doing nothing as of yet?)

Yeah, I said the Rams could sign him before the season, but I meant before the draft, as was the case with Detroit and Stafford last year.

And from what I have read, mom is a down to earth, level headed, no nonsense kind of person that wouldn't think of creating a spectacle like Crabtree's relatives did. I'd be very surprised if Suh's negotiations got out of hand.

Yep, if the guy at the top of the board doesn't want to play ball, you just move on to the next guy. Not a bad situation to be in IMO.

I have watched a lot of videos on this guy, and he sends me a great vibe. He has a great personality and is fun being around. I don't think he will be a greedy bum like Crabtree.

That is exactly right. The Rams will almost certainly have a deal in place BEFORE they make their selection.

The beauty of the #1 pick, they can negotiate with whomever they like. They can negotiate with Suh, Bradford, Clausen, McCoy, and me, if they want to; all at the same time. Parker doesn't have as much wiggle room as some might think on this one.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

                          Re: Problems with Drafting Suh?

It's the same company, not specifically the same agent. That can mean a big difference.

                          ---------------

Nebraska DT Ndamukong Suh has signed on with Maximum Sports Management, the same agents who represented Michael Crabtree in 2009.
Roosevelt Barnes, not Eugene Parker, will serve as Suh's lead agent. Crabtree's dispute was rooted in his perceived value as the top receiver in the draft whereas Suh is considered a near lock to go No. 1 overall. Suh's representation shouldn't be a major stumbling block this year.

How can we sign the Number One Pick in the draft without a huge bag of money? Going number one is proof of the players value, whether it is Suh or anyone else. What Number One Pick has been signed for less than a fortune?

Suh is not Crabtree. Every indication is that Suh is a decent guy who really loves to play. He wants to get paid for sure, but the evidence suggests that he is not a prima donna who will hurt his career and his team with a major hold out.

Suh wants to contribute from day one, and is smart enough to know that a hold-out will only hurt his on-field performance.
A defeated look of consternation, dissappointment, or even pain. The name derives from the look one often gets when challenged by a large BM.

Everyone here is also missing a key issue. Yes the first pick gets paid big, But DT is great for #1 in terms of money.

Even with a bad agent etc, is the price really an different then taking a franchise qb #1 overall with a 6 year deal?

(Haynesworth exc, but i think that it works in our favor that he didnt live up last season)

We somehow got ourselves talking about the Beatles; naming our favorite songs. Along the way (in pure desperation and sadness of the travesties occuring) we began merging Beatle song titles with our pleas of getting Ndamokung Suh.

I thought it'd be a fun thing for us to continue in an actual thread. I'll start.

i dont know why some of you say suh is overated. Suh has more tackles for loss than alabamas entire d line, more passses defended than floridas alabamas and texas's d line line combined, he has more blocked kicks than texas, florida and oklahomas d line, and well the list goes on and on.

Watching the Lions and the Pac and Suh just kicked a player when he was down and was ejected from the game on Thanksgiving on a national televised game. Suh is going to need to hirer a PR firm his image is a mess. He just met with the commissioner to discuss how clean up his act.

He also just gave the Pac a second chance and they scored a TD, this maybe cost them the game...

He may also be facing a suspension in weeks to come wow.

Not 100% conclusive, but it looks to me like Suh intentionally kicks Matt Schaub right in the nuts with an unnatural leg move. This guy is mental IMO, and just can't help himself.

It'll be interesting to see if the hair-trigger NFL decides the incident is worth a fine.
