  • New home for LT in St. Louis?

I was watching NFL Network and they were talking about the divorce between LT and the Chargers will more than likely come to a end this off season. So a question to you guys is what do you think of having him and SJ#( as a 1, 2 punch? I know almost to a man we all know we need another running back to help out our star...Realistic? Draft or free agent for this? What do you think?

The reason that San Diego are getting rid of Tomlinson is because he has been rubbish for the last couple of seasons. He only averaged 3.3 yards per carry the season just gone. He would not be a good compliment to Jackson, and would likely demand more money than he actually deserves.

A free agent like Jerious Norwood would be better.

Man, you tell me this two years ago an I would have laughed at you, but this could be a nice 3-4 year marriage, and we shouldn't have to give up too much, I would probably trade them our third or fourth rounder. LT hasn't been as productive lately as he was, but with him and Jackson splitting carries, it would keep both of them fresh and extend each of their careers by a couple seasons.

There are probably 20-25 RBs in this year's draft who are better than LT is today. Thats how it is with RBs (particularly speed backs). Around age 30 they go downhill very quickly.

I would rather draft a young compliment to Jackson that has some speed using one of those draft picks rather than using it to pick up a 31 year old RB

anyway, Tomlinson is likely to be released near the start of March because he has a large roster bonus due

Doesn't seem realistic to me, since I doubt LT will be happy with back-up money. A nice complement to Jackson? Maybe. But it's all about price, and I don't think we could agree on what constitutes 'fair compensation' in this case. But hey, if we could do it, great - a fairly big need filled.

I would take Lawrence Taylor before I would take Ladainian Tomlinson.

These ideas pop up everytime an older play parts with his team, it hasen't happened yet, nor do I think there is any sort of chance in the distant future. We are going young, not old, once we have a better base and win way more games, these types of players might be added if we actually think we have a legitimate chance at a superbowl. Until then I see no point in signing one of these guys and taking away the opportunity of a younger player

You guys are being a little rough on a guy who is coming off a 12 TD year aren't you? Is he the LT of old, no. Is he on the downside of his career? Absolutely. But if we signed him, I wouldn't be bothered in the least. He still has some skills and he is certainly better than anybody else we have if SJax were to go down.

Being in Southern California, I follow the Chargers and watch all their games. I'm an LT fan, but what I saw this year was an aging back who has hit the wall, just like Shawn Alexander did a few years ago. He has quickly gone from unstoppable to ineffective. Plus he is still going to want big time money, which he's not worth.

Tomlinson said that he "would not take a paycut under any circumstances," while speaking to 1090AM in San Diego.

No argument there regarding the "downhill quickly after 30" comment.

We are a young building (hopefully) team. Finding and developing young talented players is the order of the day. We are not exactly a threat to win the Super Bowl next year, so even if we could sign LT for the vet minimum,(very unlikely), he'd be taking a roster spot from a young guy with fresh legs who could be gaining experience ..

Yeah, I was just going to post your quote about Tomlinson. He won't be a backup, and he won't take back up money, which is the only money he'd get around these parts.

I understand your point, but I think its asking a lot to fill all the holes we have on this team with talented young players in one year. We are going to have to find stop gap veteran players to tide us over in some places while we restock other positions. I'm not recommending we give LT major $ to play backup to Jackson for the entire duration of Jackson's career, but if we could bring him in for a year or two, we could use our draft picks on other more critical areas of need.

As a practicality, I don't think he's going to have much of a choice. Regardless of where he goes.
