Per Bernie:
Spags doesn't deny interest once again and speaks how he RESPECTS Vick.
MV will be a Ram in another month like I have been saying for weeks, all people who don't think so can keep telling themselves whatever helps them sleep at night.
Steve Spagnuolo speaks on Michael Vick: The Rams’ amiable head coach made the rounds in the Super Bowl media center and was asked about the Rams’ interest in Vick, the Philadelphia Eagles’ backup quarterback.
“I’ve got a lot of respect for Michael as a player,” Spags said. “Everything I’ve heard out of Philadelphia is kind of good. We haven’t gone down that road in our process yet. I think he’s a terrific player.”
This is interesting because the Spagnuolo style is to say as little as possible about team business. I think it is significant that he praised Vick and offered that he’d heard some good things about him. Actually, I think it’s significant that Spagnuolo said anything; I fully expected the coach to say he could not comment on Vick because Vick was under contract to the Eagles.
But clearly the Rams have interest. As I noted in a blog written earlier this week, I’ve heard that Rams’ assistant coaches have been calling their counterpart in Philly to get info on Vick.
The Rams need a quarterback. The mobile Vick could give them a perimeter game and a deep-pass threat. Vick has said he wants to start but is willing to accept a backup role with the Eagles again in 2010. The Eagles gave Vick a chance after his release from prison. Vick served 23 months for his part in a dogfighting ring. Vick could be released by the Eagles who may prefer to avoid paying a roster bonus. Or, the Eagles could trade Vick for a draft a choice. A market could be forming for Vick; the Buffalo Bills are also said to have interest.
