  • Todd McShay has Rams taking Gerald MCCoy

In his new Mock Todd McShay has the Rams taking Gerald McCoy instead of Suh. Do you think this is him just trying to drum up controversy. Is there anyway other than trading down do you see McCoy going before Suh?

I think he could just be trying to be unique and get people to read it, but I also think this may be a case of teams moving prospects up and down the draft boards as prospects are over-analysed. I believe Avenger wrote an article similar to this a while back about teams/fans not sticking with game film and who should be the pick after the season is over.

Edit: I could be mistake about the nature of the article, but I would like to ask McShay what has changed between now and his last mock that makes McCoy a better player.

This seems to be a growing opinion, with at least one other pundit claiming McCoy to be the better of the two. My question is, is there any new material to judge these two with? I don't believe either played in the Senior Bowl, had their pro day, participated in the combine. What's the deal? What has suddenly changed? They can't be getting this all from game tape, or else they would see Suh absolutely dominating everyone he came across, racking up stats comparable to entire defensive lines. Unless they're conveniently ignoring that ;)

It's going to be a long, painful offseason.

I think he believes McCoy is a better fit for the Rams. He's not necessarily better than Suh...I don't know, I don't see why we'd have to screw this pick up.

Both are unbelievable...I have to admit that McCoy was my hope before the last cfb season.

Now I prefer Suh, but I will also recognize that some of the hype Suh has is from a few awe inspiring moments (interceptions, etc.) that McCoy did not have, that left people saying "did a DT really just do that", and that are not necessarily pertinent.

However, on a down to down basis the two are fairly close, really in mind this could come down to intangibles.
(Or even worse contractual demands, but that is a long ways away, everything is speculation at this point.)

McShay is notourious for trying to stir the pot right before the combine.

The combine will change alot but the Rams will 99% not be taking McCoy.

Suh, Jimmy C, Sam B -- thats our options barring a trade.

            No combine will change that

You must not have followed previous Rams drafts if something as silly as an individual draft pick would cause you to stop being a fan. :disapointed:

lol what bullcrap suh has triple the stats of mccoy, suhs juinor year he even had triple the stats of mccoy this year. In reality, if mccoys a better pass rusher? why does suh have 24 qb hurries 12 sacks 24 tackles for loss and interception and 10 passes blocked?

Re: Todd McShay has Rams taking Gerald MCCoy

I suspect it's a move to try and be different and create some buzz. McShay's current justification is that McCoy is quicker and more disruptive, and that Spags is looking for defensive linemen who can penetrate. Yet in his first mock, McShay described Suh as "a disruptive run defender with the arm strength to toss aside blockers and the quickness to make plays behind the line of scrimmage." McShay's group, Scouts Inc, still has Suh rated higher than McCoy, for what that's worth.

This guy is always trying to get people to fight each other. Next week, Dez Bryant will be our pic according to McShay. Just never really liked his analysis on things. =/

This being proof, I again have to disagree with his opinion.

I concur, McShay is renowned for making brash or unusual mock draft selections. Take no heed, he's trying to be different. With that said, I wouldn't exactly go to Mel Kiper for my draft advice, either. Both seem to favour flashy, flavour of the month picks which don't do much to address team need or consider the best talent available.

In today's 24 news cycle, you must manufacture news when there isn't real news to report. Otherwise, you don't get your weekly spot on ESPN and you don't get the big paycheck.

Nothing to see here, move along. ;)

McCoy has a different style of play than Suh.

Suh just tries to manhandle people where as McCoy has DT moves and plays the position more traditionally.

If Spags thinks McCoy is a better fit, I wouldn't mind trading down to the second spot and getting McCoy. (Convincing TB, we might be doing it for a QB and get McCoy)

McCoy's interception was more impressive looking in my opinion.

Anyway, Suh and McCoy are mainly just different DT's. One isn't really better than the other, it just depends on what you're looking for.

                                Brian Price Vs. Gerald Mccoy

Time to get controversial. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say: based on what I've seen of game footage, Brian Price is just as good as Gerald Mccoy.

They both have that great burst off the line, both are great inside pass rushers, and both are stout against the run, and both have a tendency to get blown out of plays due to picking the wrong holes at times. I'd even say Brian Price is nastier and has a better motor then Mccoy (though slightly).

Why is Mccoy getting all this hype about being Number One Overall and not Brian Price?

Again I'm not sure about Price's injury history or character concerns, but based on play alone, they are almost identical...

Correct me if I'm wrong or agree if I'm not..

Colt was taken out the Championship game. He has his pads off and went to the x-ray room at the Rose Bowl.

Scott Wright at Draft Countdown has the Rams taking Colt McCoy at the top of the second (after Suh with the first pick).

Are there a chance that Colt McCoy is still there at nr 33?
                                by clarasDK
I am pretty sure that the Rams will take Bradford with the nr 1 pick this year. But in my heart I still hope for some lucky break that will give us Suh and Colt McCoy in the second round.

I have tried to analyse the first round to see what the chances are for McCoy to slip to the pick nr 33.

As I see it the QB order is:
                                1. Bradford
                                2. Clausen
                                3. McCoy

Tebow could be a wildcard that could pop up before Clausen or McCoy. But nobody really has an idea where and to whom Tebow will go.

That means if the Rams takes Suh only two other teams can take a QB or else Colt will be gone before nr 33.

Bradford would probably go to the Redskins(4), Seahawks(6) or Browns (7)

Clausen would probably go to Raiders (8), Bills (9) or Jaguars (10)

I think most teams would see it as a reach go after Colt McCoy in the top 10.

From pick 11-20 I only think the Whiners would consider taking him (as they have two picks they could use pick nr 17 to take a chance).

From 21 - 32 I only see the Vikings having a real QB need.

                                Scenario 1:
So for the McCoy with nr 33 scenario to happen we would have to hope that no one sees him as having top 10 value, That the Whiners don't take a chance on him, that nobody wants to pay for trading up before the Vikings and that the Vikings do not take him.

I would say the Vikings taking him is the biggest risk here.

                                Scenario 2:
Raiders take the player with the best 40 time or some workout warrior like OT: Bruce Cambell
Bills go BPA and take a player like Spiller
Jaguars takes Tebow (that would at least sell some tickets) or another player that they consider to be BPA with nr 10.

That might lead to Clausen falling to the Vikings who would take him.

Again in this scenario nobody are allowed to trade up to take McCoy and the Whiners should also keep their hands of him.

                                Scenario 3:
Rams trade up to get him.

The question is how fare up do we have to go?

                                Trade partners coulde be:

                                27. Dallas
They do not have that many big needs in the draft so they could be interested in a trade. Maybe our second pick this year and next year (with option of it being a 1 pick next year instead if Colt McCoy plays well as a rookie)? Or something similar.
                                29. Jets
                                Same as Dallas

We could probably also get a deal going with a team like Philly at nr 24 or the Patsies at nr 22 (they love to trade out of the first round). But that would probably be even more costly.

Maybe we could sweeten a deal with the Patsies by throwing in Carriker who would be good fit as a DE for their 3-4 defence, and they have had problems keeping pressure on their opponenents QB's last year.

                                The questions is "is...
