On, 3/5/10, who is the first UFA Bill Devaney should call?
Re: On, 3/5/10, who is the first UFA Bill Devaney should call?
I'm going all in on Dansby. Unlike guys like Peppers and Wilfork, I think the Rams would at least have a shot at Dansby. He won't come cheap, but given that he's only 28, is a true SLB (6'4, 250) and has demonstrated the ability to be a consistent playmaker, I'd try to lure him away from division rival Arizona.
Re: On, 3/5/10, who is the first UFA Bill Devaney should call?
i like dansby, i also like kampman. his price tag could be a little lower because of his injury, so it would depend on whether or not he looks healthy but we might be able to get him for a reasonable price for a couple of years. none of those other guys really interest me or are interested in the rams themselves, maybe pierce or redman on the cheap.
Re: On, 3/5/10, who is the first UFA Bill Devaney should call?
Peppers can still play. Kampmann would be a cheaper model. However, I like the idea of Vanden Bosch. He might not be what he once was physically, but is a locker room leader by all acounts, and seems to have the attitude that Spags likes.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Re: On, 3/5/10, who is the first UFA Bill Devaney should call?
I think we have the money to go after Dansby, he is a quality LB, probably one of the best UFAs available. Ideally id also be up for adding Pierce or Fujita to play alongside Dansby and Laurinaitis, plus if you get Suh in the draft thats a massive upgrad to the front 7
Re: On, 3/5/10, who is the first UFA Bill Devaney should call?
I went for A. Kampman. Sure I'd like to sign a Peppers or Wilfork-who wouldn't- but I seriously doubt Billy and ownership would want to break the bank on those kind of players.
Kampman would give us a major upgrade at a price we could afford.
Remember, he played out of position last year as a OLB in the 3-4 and is probably chomping at the bit to get back to playing his normal position as a DE in a 4-3 defense.
Re: On, 3/5/10, who is the first UFA Bill Devaney should call?
With Little and Hall both question marks... you call Kampman. One little injury after years of powerful and consistent play in the nfl doesn't bother me one bit. A little older than the Rams' would like i'm sure, but it fills a pertinent need, and allows the team to focus on the bpa picks in the draft.
Re: On, 3/5/10, who is the first UFA Bill Devaney should call?
I can't argue with Kampman or Dansby being called first. I just hope they are both contacted very quickly. Do they have two phone lines at the Rams offices?
If you add both of those guys and Suh, this defense changes DRAMATICALLY. It's like night and day. Excuse me, I've got a goofy smile just thinking about it.
Re: On, 3/5/10, who is the first UFA Bill Devaney should call?
I took Kampman. I really like this guy. When he played DE in the packers 4-3 scheme, he was an animal! He will come much cheaper then Peppers, and I think his knee shouldn't affect him. He is also not too old.
Re: On, 3/5/10, who is the first UFA Bill Devaney should call?
None of the above
Either they are
(1) too expensive for their value (mainly Peppers)
(2) too old and/or too expensive for their value (Kampman, Bulluck, Van den Bosch, Pierce, Fujita
(3) not coming here (Wilfork is going to Miami or NE),
(4) overpriced and at a position we have filled (Dansby)
(5) or just not very good (Redman)
I haven't taken a look a the full UFA list but I think our number one priority should be right tackle (Barron or otherwise) followed by LB, and backup RB, and another WR to throw into the mix
That being said I think we should focus on young up and comers at a ripe age (25-30), let's be honest we aren't anywhere near the playoffs no need to overspend on older players.
