What does everyone think about the Stanford RB. Idk if its a great idea for the Rams if they do keep Steven Jackson (which im hoping and thinking they will) but if you go with a two back system without jackson then you could go with a great character powerback like him with a speed change of pace back. Thoughts?

We are not poop canning Jackson.

As for Gerhart, I'm a fan of his for the third/fourth round.

If he falls to the fourth round, he would be a great pickup. However I very much doubt he falls past the second.

I really hope this phrase catches on and stays with us throughout Jackson's tenure in St. Louis.

I think if he falls at round 3. He'd be a great pick.
Then Rams could run with a double power back system.
Steven will be a really good coach for him, so in 2010 we could have the best running game in the league.

except this regime wont try to convert him to full back
i wasnt surprised to see Leonard play well as a third down back for the Bengals

Gerhart wouldnt be a bad pick up, but it depends where we draft him. The top of the second would be too high for me, the third wouldnt be bad

Convert? Leonard was playing FB his senior year at Rutgers. Not really much of a conversion.

Only to get Ray Rice in the backfield with him. He was always an RB, and should have been played as a third down back in the pros.

I do like Tony. I think he could become something big, although I think we have more important holes to fill before we go for backups.

How about this guy to backup Jackson?
                      by RamJackson39
My 4th round pick has changed. I want Brian Calhoun, the Running Back from Wisconsin. This guy is a dream replacement for Faulk because he runs almost just like him. He has great speed and catches the ball like a dream. He'd be a perfect backup for Jackson and would provide a great 1-2 punch.

How do you feel about the Rams taking a RB in the 3rd round?
                      by BarronWade
Okay IMO Bulger can only play if there are great players around him so i think we should go Sanchez. But obviously Bulger's contract puts us into a situation that we cant take a big contract QB. So we are a probably going to try to protect him so he wont get injured.

However Bulger is not our franchise player Action Jackson is. Spags said Action Jackson is going to be the centerpiece of the offense. So that means he will probably get 30-40 rushes per game. His health has definitely been an issue. We have been horrible without him. If i'm not mistaken we havn't won a game with out Action Jackson in the last 2 years. So that means we need Steven Jackson!

So one way to to keep Jackson healthy is to take a RB that could be a reliable back-up. I dont think Brian Leonard is the guy (yea IMO he is a bust even thou he is from Rutgers and can leap over people). Pittman is a possibility of a back-up but i think we need a back up that is reliable that can block, run fast, and catch the ball.

Some people are saying Devin Moore or Ian Johnson (change of pace backs) but the way we are building this line it looks like we will look to power run the ball with the bigger guys like a steven Jackson.

So here is a guy we look for Rashad Jennings out of Liberty in the 3rd. THis guy is big 6-1 231 pounds. But the thing that makes him good is that he has good hands, very durable, also a very good blocker, and most importantly he is pretty fast.

So do you think a 3rd round RB (like Rashad Jennings)would help Action Jackson. Also do you think we need a back-up RB for S-Jax in the draft?

Jahvid Best's role on the Rams
                      by BarronWade
Jahvid Best's name has come up many times in mock drafts for our 2nd round pick. So if indeed we go Bradford then Best and Steven Jackson is healthy week 1 what is Best's role going to be.

Lets say we run the ball 30 times how many times does best run it?

Is Best reliable enough for us to take Jackson out on 3rd down and put in best? (remember last year a couple times it was 3rd and 1 and we ran it with Gado? and i dont even wana get into that)

Is Best in there to take over when jackson is tired or is he there to preserve Jackson for the 4th?

                      Here is my thinking:

                      Jackson is the starter (duh)

                      1st quarter (RB on field)
                      Best 60% Jackson 40%

We basically let Jackson start but let Best be on the field more than Jackson in the 1st.

                      2nd Quarter
                      Best 50% Jackson 50%

We dont use split backs with these 2 we just put them out equally. What im thinking is at halftime Best has more carries than Jackson.

                      3rd Quarter
                      Best 25% Jackson 75%

Steven Jackson basically gets on the field more and makes plays.

                      4th Quarter
                      Best 45% Jackson 95%

What? That does not add up to 100%. THe reason is because we should use split backs with the opposing defense having to guess which playmaker will make the play

So what do you think Jahvid Best's role would be on the Rams? And how many carries per game do you think he will have?

                      Steven Jackson THE PREDATOR!!!
                      by Guam rammer
Normally, players come up with their own names or the team starts it off but there isnt anything that has popped up so maybe the Ram nation can come up with something to label our star RB. Dude needs a name. His play and the way he looks when he runs with his dreds flopping all over the place reminds me of the predator. Thoughts?

                      Toby Gerhart
                      by peramoure
I just heard this on my local sports radio, the Ticket here in Dallas.

A scout said of Toby Gerhart, "If he was black he'd be a top 20 pick. He's like a SJackson type, no blazing speed, but muscles over people. The guy is a beast"

Lets say he slips to the fourth round. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm? Do we take him?

Sorry to interject race, but it was a quote regarding white running backs (Alstott, Hester, etc.)
