Wilson: Where will Hank Baskett land?
    by Aaron Wilson
    March 06, 02010

Indianapolis Colts veteran wide receiver and special-teams contributor Hank Baskett is perusing the NFL marketplace again as an unrestricted free agent.

According to a league source, at least three teams have interest in Baskett, including the Chicago Bears, St. Louis Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Nothing is imminent as far as a deal with free agency in its second day.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder caught 33 passes for 440 yards and three touchdowns in 2008 with the Eagles.

After signing with the Colts when the Eagles moved Michael Vick up to the active roster, Baskett didn't see significant playing time as Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie shined opposite Reggie Wayne.

Baskett is a special-teams stalwart, but didn't field an on-sides kick to open the second half of the Colts' Super Bowl loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Baskett is a co-star in a reality television show with his wife, Kendra Wilkinson, formerly of The Girls Next Door.

Maybe we should change our name to the St. Louis Eagle Cast-offs

Heres what we do. We Bring him in along with TO, Brandon Marshall, and Michael Vick. Not only do we have 3 good top receivers we are a lock to get Hard Knocks this year

In all seriousness he offers size we don't have good special teamer, but he still doesn't fit our need for a number 1 wideout. Plus Kendra would be a huge distraction at camp and the games.

Wouldn't be a bad pick up. Obviously depth player.

i was fine with Feely ..but not this one..hope he goes elsewhere.
not because i dont think he can play a bit..but id rather see us develop our current young and promising 2`s,3`s,4`s etc..than see somebody of Basketts limited upside take away some of their reps..we have plenty of pancakes in Gibson,Avery,Robinson,Amendola,Foster & Burton..we need some maple syrup to lay on the top of them, not a basket to hide them in. ;)

there are 3 wideouts that im keen on us drafting..(atleast 1 of them, perhaps two max..) in Brandon La Fell, Dezmon Briscoe & Blair White..id much rather have one of them onboard than Baskett.

He isn't the the veteran presence we need, we don't need another completely average wide receiver. If we aren't planning on bringing in a serious WR1 type veteran, then we're much better off getting our younger guys playing time.

Lol yeah because Hank Baskett is the only guy in the NFL with a hot wife....

Hank is a real, real nice guy. He used to live two houses down from one of my friends while he was playing here for the Lobos, and he'd sometimes throw the ball around with us and even visited our practices a couple times.

                  Camp body?

No, more like great special teams player and not a bad WR.
                  Would be a good pick-up.

Memo to DeSpags. There are 29 other teams in the NFL to draw players from. Taking the Giants and Eagles sloppy seconds alone is not going to build a good franchise.

In a stunning move Tuesday, the Philadelphia Eagles have decided to part ways with one of the stalwarts of their defense from the last several years.

The Eagles are releasing perennial Pro Bowler MLB Jeremiah Trotter, FOXSports.com has learned. Despite recording 113 tackles in 2006, the Eagles feel that Trotter has lost a step.

Trotter, who has played in Philadelphia for seven of his nine NFL seasons, has registered over 100 tackles in six different seasons, including each of the last two. At 29, Trotter has been one of the Eagles' leaders on defense, along with safety Brian Dawkins.

Trotter was expected to anchor an improved Eagles linebacking corps with the off-season acquisition of Takeo Spikes.

PHILADELPHIA -- Will the Eagles trade Donovan McNabb? With apologies to the Brett Favre retirement watch, this is the most compelling story of the 2010 NFL offseason.

Eagles coach Andy Reid has said all the right things -- almost. So has McNabb. And that's the problem. This time of year, it's not what they say that counts but what's going on behind the scenes and how you read between the lines.

Philadelphia is the only team in the NFL with all three quarterbacks on its roster going into the final year of their contracts. Teams are calling, wondering who's available, who's not and what the Eagles would want in any potential trade.

The Eagles' front office is listening. But here's the kicker: The Eagles, according to multiple league sources, have so far told teams that both McNabb and his primary backup, Kevin Kolb, are not available.

Now, does that mean the Eagles won't trade McNabb? Definitely not. Most league insiders believe the Eagles are just posturing right now, trying to determine the market and how to proceed. If the team says publicly or privately McNabb is on the trading block, its bargaining position would tank.

Among the teams that have talked to the Eagles, according to multiple sources, are the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, St. Louis Rams and Buffalo Bills. The latter two teams are believed to be interested in Michael Vick, who told Reid in his exit interview in January that he wants to be traded to a team that will give him an opportunity to start. Reid promised him nothing, team sources say.

Teams have showed varying degrees of interest in all three quarterbacks, but McNabb is the key. He has said he will be back and wants to be back. But is that necessarily the case? He often makes snide remarks about being underappreciated by both the fans and the media in town. That's nothing new. Former Eagles QB Ron Jaworski faced the same thing. Many big-media-market quarterbacks who don't take the team to the promised land of Lombardi face that kind of relentless scrutiny and rancid doubt.

Publicly, Reid left the door open on a McNabb trade -- if only ever so slightly. Reid at first said that McNabb, 33, would be back in an Eagles uniform in 2010 and reiterated that it's his call to make -- despite the recent shake-up of the team's front office. (General manager Tom Heckert was allowed to leave to take the same job in Cleveland, while Howie Roseman was promoted to take his place.)

But on Jan. 11, when making his final comments about the 2009 season to the local media, here's what Reid said that could be interpreted as he left himself an out:

"I was asked if Donovan would be my quarterback next year, and I said yes," Reid said. "That's what I'm...

                                Eagles' Rayburn (DT) is cut...
                                by Varg6
The subject of trade rumors the past several offseasons, defensive tackle Sam Rayburn is suddenly available on the open market after the Philadelphia Eagles released the four-year veteran Friday, making him able to sign with another team

Rayburn became the odd-man out on a crowded tackle depth chart and the move, which was not totally unexpected, came as the Eagles prepared to start a weekend minicamp.

Not many NFL teams enjoy the kind of surplus at tackle that the Eagles have, and Rayburn should merit solid interest as a free agent, given the difficulty most clubs experience in filling the position. It will not be surprising if Rayburn has multiple suitors.

Philadelphia plans to start a pair of former first-round choices, Broderick Bunkley and Mike Patterson, at tackle in 2007. The Eagles signed unrestricted free agents Montae Reagor and Ian Scott this spring and the coaches are also high on second-year veteran LaJuan Ramsey, who reported to work this spring 20 pounds heavier than a year ago.

The Eagles traded starting tackle Darwin Walker to Buffalo in a deal that brought Pro Bowl linebacker Takeo Spikes to Philadelphia, but still were overstocked at the position.

A former Tulsa standout, Rayburn, 26, earned a spot on the Eagles' roster as an undrafted college free agent in 2003. In four seasons, he notched 98 tackles, nine sacks, two forced fumbles, one recovery and one pass defensed in 52 games, including four starts.

His best season was in 2004, when Rayburn had 46 tackles and six sacks, despite playing mostly in a backup role.

                                Rayburn had five years remaining on his contract, at base salaries of $650,000 (2007), $700,000 (2008), $800,000 (2009), $850,000 (2010) and $950,000 (2011).
