This is a very good move for the team. With the trend of O-Line breaking down by the end of the season, Fraley is some great insurance and could even start at guard.
Keep bolstering that line Bradford is gonna need it . In an ideal scenario he Grecco finally establishes him self as a good starting RG, and we have pretty good depth with Goldberg and Fraley.
Our OL was concerning last year and this year we have two guys out for the year that started last year (Terrell and McCollum). Yet I still am not that concerned this year. I like what I see from the two offensive tackle spots and I like what Incognito is doing at the center position. The guard position is normally the easiest OL position to fill IMO. I think between Timmerman, Steussie, Goldberg, and Setterstrom we will be decent this year at the position. We have three guys with a lot of starting experience two of which are on the downward slope of their careers but can still produce. The other has the potential to continue to improve (Goldberg). I think Setterstrom has good potential and could contend for playing time before the season ends.
I hope the Rams take this guy somewhere along the line. He can play 3 spots along the OL. How many times do teams run out of effective OL during the season...
He's a mauler and a good center too. We need some punch in the middle of our line.
If you had to pick someone on the current roster who would you want to be the new starter on the OL.
72 Adam Goldberg 26yrs old 6'7 310 Could play G or C
66 Mark Setterstrom 22yrs old 6'4 314 Could play G
63 Larry Turner 24yrs old 6'2 295 Could play G or C
79 Todd Steussie 35yrs old 6'6 310 Could play G
It looks like the youth movement will begin sooner then expected at C. We could have Incognito, Goldberg, or Turner play center.
Right now, if the Rams carry nine OL on the roster, it will likely be the following six players:
Jason Brown (C)
Jason Smith (OT)
Jacob Bell (OT)
Hank Fraley (OG/C)
Rodger Saffold (OT/OG)
Alex Barron (OT)
Along with three of the following players:
Mark Setterstrom (OG/C)
John Greco (OG)
Phil Trautwein (OT)
Roger Allen (OG)
Adam Goldberg (OT/OG)
That is a lot more talent than the Rams have had in a long time. Truth is, the Rams were in position to have a very solid O line last year until the injuries started piling up. Now, with the addition of Fraley and Saffold (and the subtraction of Incognito), the Rams have even more talent.
When your best player is a RB, and your biggest investment for the future is a QB, that's not a bad place to start.
