  • What would it cost to move up from 33 to 25? (Bryant Slipping)

Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com writes that he "wouldn’t be surprised if (Dez) Bryant slips out of the first round entirely."
Marvez cites a recent ESPN The Magazine report that claimed Bryant was "notoriously unreliable" in college, and that "Getting him to focus on even simple tasks like attending class was a daily struggle." In addition to FOX and ESPN The Mag, the National Football Post, Cleveland Plain Dealer, and Yahoo have published negative reports about Bryant in the last month.
Let's say Dez Bryant continues his slide down draft boards and on draft day we select Sam Bradford, and Dez is there at 25 and we don't believe he will be there at 33.

    1) What would it take to move back into the first and grab him?

    2) Would you consider this?

I think this would be as close to ideal for us. It would give our rookie QB and dynamic option to grow and develop with. Bradford, Bryant with Laurent Robinson across and Avery in the slot would create a nightmare passing game. We'd need to hit on some of our later picks on defense and next year's draft would probably be close to exclusively defensive picks. It would also probably kill my dreams of trading for Tony Scheffler, but I love this scenario.

I don't think we would want to trade up. Nor do I think we could anyway.

I think many of those teams on the bottom already have great receivers and their needs are very specific, because they are all vying for a playoff spot. I think Bryant would slip past teams like the Saints, Colts, Vikings, Cowboys, etc.

I think it would be safe to say that if Bryant slipped to #25 he would inevitably slip to #33

This is a real Risk/Reward scenario. I'm not sure exactly how 'for' it I am. I still have Bryant graded as my best WR in this draft, though the other receivers, especially Golden Tate, are gaining some ground.

It's worth noting that the Rams tried to trade up into the first for James Laurinaitis last year to no avail.

I don't believe the Rams are the kind of organization that would trade up for a player with apparent red flags attached to him, no matter how talented.

Any reason why it would be pick number 25? That's the Raven's pick, and they pretty much took care of their need at receiver by acquiring Boldin and Stallworth. Past that pick, perhaps the Cowboys look at him, with Roy Williams underperforming, and also the Jets, who are still looking to upgrade. After that though, he gets to the second round easy.

            Let's think about this.

Talent wise, Bryant is a top 15 pick.

So why would he fall into Round 2?

NCAA suspension. Didn't run at Combine. Didn't run at OSU Pro Day. Won't run until private workout.

NFL GMs have to be worried that they are looking at the next Chad Johnson (I refuse to call him by that other name) or Brandon Marshall, rather than the next Larry Fitzgerald or Andre Johnson.

I wouldn't trade up to get him, but if he fell to pick #33, it would be a tough choice. It will be interesting to see if the Rams bring him in for a private interview, as that might be the deciding factor if he does fall.

Barring some unfathomable, unforeseen circumstance, Bryant won't make it out of the top 15. I don't think the Rams are in any position to be giving up extra, valuable picks to trade up for a WR. Having said that, if he's there at #33 I'd be tripping over my own tongue running up to the podium.

Better yet, think of the ridiculous trade offers we'd get overnight if Dez Bryant was there at 33. I'd be much more incline to make a trade and slip down a few spots if possible.

I think this guy has shown ALL who are watching that this is a joke to him, I wouldnt take his character in the 3rd on a team like this.

If we were to trade up a few spots Gresham is the man.imo Bradford would have an outlet from the beginning that he is comfortable with and hes a solid TE.

Which would put us in the position of being a 1-15 team that uses its first two draft picks on guys that BOTH missed basically their entire last college seasons with injuries. I bet that would be a first in the history of the nfl draft.

I would do it. Best outside weapon in the draft and also come away with a Franchise QB and you already have steven Jackson. Offensive future looks bright.

Man, as much as I am for second chances, ie, Brandon Marshall and TO, something about Dez rubs me the wrong way. I just think that he will be a major problem for his first NFL team.

Right now I don't think his maturity is there. But it would be hard to argue his talent in the second round.

That being said I like what Bralidore suggested, trade our 33 down a couple spots to a team like the Raiders.

I'm with C-Mob. When scouts reported after interviewing OSU coaches that he had trouble making it to home games on time, I'm not interested. Let someone else have the headache. Give me lesser talent if it means the kid has a passion for the game and a desire to be the best in the league.

Just to note, he was my 10-foot poll guy on Av's thread.

                            I agree with that!

We need all the picks we can get. I would love it if we could fall down a little in the second round, pick up some extra picks and maybe still be lucky and get Tate.

I'm with Mob and the rest... I think we really should take Suh, and then Colt with the 2nd.. if he's not there depending on what QB.. Maybe even Tebow.. what can I say ESPN sold me on him.. But definatly take Tate before dez anyway..
