  • 1rst round DL since 95

How many 1rst round defensive lineman have we drafted since 1995.?
How many times have we heard that THIS guy is going to make a difference?
How many years have we waited for THIS guy to develope into the pick we've spent on him?

I know a new HC (and a good one IMO)
I know a new GM (also a good one IMO)

But as fans, we have put ALOT of hope into that D line, and I for one am ready to get a QB. Yes he has question marks about his durability, and the spread offense he comes from, but his accuracy, quick release and ability to get the ball out quickly, certainly give me more hope than another tackler.

I know Suh COULD be more than just another tackler but what if he isnt. What if we have to wait 3-4 years for him to grow into the roll? Then we would have wasted ANOTHER 1rst round pick on a position that our new HC should be able to coach up.

With a 1rst OA pick at the QB position I think after the first year we will KNOW what we have and if we've done our homework I think we could be in a much better position.

Its just surprising to me that with ALL we have invested in the Dline already there are guys still wanting to put ANOTHER 1rst round pick there.

Yes its still a hole but I think our coach will get more out of them in his 2nd year.

The reason people want to put another first round pick on the DL is because they havent worked out so far, so we have a need along the DL

You can play the what if game all day long it's just wasted energy.

How many times have we heard that THIS guy is going to make a difference?

I believe most of them were drafted to fill a need but did not come close to having the hype as Suh.

To say the Rams should not draft the best player available because in the past they selected some defensive lineman who did not work out. If the Rams become cautious like that and focus only on the past then I guess we we better get use to drafting at the top every year.

      Go Rams

Agreed. Nevermind caution, spags SHOULD help the guys we have already and make them better, after all he is supposed to be a dline specialist.

This has to be my least favorite argument out there. It makes no sense what so ever.

Just because Jimmy Kennedy, Damione Lewis, Ryan Pickett, and Adam Carriker haven't lived up to expectations that means neither will Suh?

I'm just not connecting the dots.

That being said you did make some good points, I too am ready to draft our QB, but thats not because Suh won't live up to his expectations, its because we desperately need to move on and make a new idenitity for our Rams.

It doesn't mean Suh will be less than spectacular but it does show that he does bring risk.

Suh brings little risk, Bradford brings a lot. Suh in my mind is the safest pick in the draft.

Not only is Bradford a QB(that should be enough for the risk factor) he had a serious injury only to make his risk factor a lot higher.

all history of failings at any position means is the need to re-address the position.

if the Lions were frightened off taking a wideout by past failings then they wouldnt have the beast that is Megatron..a.k.a Calvin Johnson.

all that being said..i agree we should take Bradford..just dont agree with the reasons that youve given.

I don't think the Rams srewed up in drafting Ryan Pickett! The Rams screwed up by not resigning him! The Rams spent all the cap money on Offence for a long time.

The Rams drafting AC was not a smart move good player but dosen't fit the 4-3 system Rams run. Could possibly develope into a good DT.

The old front office is the reason for the problems Rams have now.
If Rams resigned Pickett. The Rams wouldn't had to use number one picks on Kennedy or AC.

Pickett is still playing strong in Green Bay.

There is certainly no denying that. EVERY player carries a risk.

The risk for Suh is undoubtedly the lowest in recent memory, but no one should ever say a player is a can't miss. Cause stuff happens.

"Devaney and Spags were not here prior to 2008. Neither were most of their staff. But there are those few helmet clad individuals among us who keep insisting that the “Rams” keep picking DL’s and the “pattern” shows that we should not do so anymore. For the last time, the Rams are a completely different team with a completely different front office and coaching staff so please do not keep applying past history to recent events."

                        Second round
                        by DistantRam
Let's assume, although there's still a long way to go, that the Rams choose either Suh or Clausen with the first pick in the draft. What happens in the second round?

I propose that a defensive end be selected, as this class has some exceptional DE prospects who may well slip to the top of the second round. Greg Hardy, Greg Romeus, Jason Pierre-Paul, Carlos Dunlap (despite reservations about his professionalism), Ricky Sapp and others might well be available at number thirty-three and I'm sure that Spags will be able to develop one of them into a real force.

With all of our current DEs, Long excepted, becoming free agents this year, it's about time that we acquired a new pass-rush threat to play opposite the number two pick from 2008.

If we end up with Long, Suh, Carriker and one of this year's DEs on the line, with Laurinaitis and Atogwe too, we'd have the core of a formidable defence.

Obvious Round 1 Selection but 2?
                        by FestusRam
Ok, my vote is for Suh round one. Thats an obvious pick you cant pass up

But round 2? I see many people wanting to acquire Alexander and i agree and disagree with it both.

The reason i agree is, he is very talented receiver with great size. He would fit exceptionally well into the West Coast O. I've seen him catch screens many times and just break them for 50+ yards.

However, I feel like if we acquire another WR this off season it should be a veteran. Not another rookie. I dont beleive the rams will draft him in the 2nd but I honestly don't know. What do you think about it?

Round 1 Suh DT- Unless TB pulls out a good offer four our first pick then Suh is the obvious #1

Round 2 Weatherspoon OLB- Great size, good speed, and i love his attitude. I would like our defense to do alot more talking across the line, my hope is to turn him into a joey porter type.

Round 3 Dan Lefevour QB- Arm strength, mobility, smarts, this guy has it all. From reports from the senior bowl he seems to be adjusting to taking snaps under center well, this guy will be great for us.

Round 4 Dexter McCluster RB- Change of pace back take pressure off of SJAX, the man is a real playmaker and will bring a quick strike ability to our offense.

Round 5 John Jerry OG- Good size, great strength, will take the place of incognito in due time.

Round 5 Andrew Quarless TE- We might strike gold with this pick, he showed talent in the east west shrine game and could possibly be a very good TE

Round 6 Chris Hawkins CB- We need more depth at corner, we really run thin at times.

Round 7 Alex Daniels DE- Rotational player

Round 7- Reed Williams LB- Rotational Depth

Before you comment this draft assumes that we pick up some people in free agency. Like a RT and a DE, heres to hoping.

Rams Round 2 --- Pick #47 --- What the Rams CANNOT do....
                        by richtree
Ok, so Robert Quinn the big, DE from UNC is now a Ram. This should make everyone happy for many reasons. He is the athletic, rusher that makes Spags system great. We needed a youthful burst from this side of the ball and him, Long, and Selvie will make us happy for the next 5 years.

NOW ON TO ROUND 2, AND WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.

#1 We cannot take Offensive Guard here. We took Saffold here last year to protect our investment in Bradford. We also have money tied up in the Oline. A run blocking specialized guard can often be found in the later rounds of the draft.

#2 We should only take a DT if he is the absolute perfect fit and the guy we want. This is a position that we can plug in vets for another year and maybe find another guy in Free Agency or in the later rounds. It doesn't make sense to pay Round 2 money (possible last year's contract rules) for a guy that will play limited snaps as a rookie.
We have bookend DE's and need to get athletes on the field.

#3 Avoid Kyle Rudolph at all costs. If he was that good he would have went already. In a weak TE class, we could wait for DJ Williams or Housler in the next round. McDaniel doesn't favor TE's and we already have 2 young guys with potential. There are plenty of TE's that will be available to block for our vertical attack later in the draft or in Free Agency.

#4 Focus on intimidate needs to help get us to playoffs this season. It's obvious we may start slow with a new OC and lots of young guys, but come week 16 we cannot have a bad loss to the Seahawks because of our inability to open up the offense.

#5 Get an immediate need at an athletic position. They are:

                        WR, RB#2, OLB, SS, FS

Obviously, if we are lucky to have Hankerson, T.Smith, A.Ayers there we should go with one of these guys.

But if not lets pass on Justin Houston for a Guard like Wil Rackley because he is rated higher....

I truly believe that Round 2, 3, and 4 will have a great impact on the Rams this season.
WR, RB#2, OLB, SS, FS <---- These five needs should make up 3 or the next 4 picks...

Guys like Jacquizz Rodgers, Greg Little, and any Safety we want will all be there later....lets get athletes all over the field and create a buzz for the future and more free agent guards and Dt's will come play ....
