  • What Does Bradford Need???

Realistically, any QB who isn't use to constant pressure and star WR and TE targets always being open, is gonna have a tough time on the St. Louis Rams. Lol

So what tools does Bradford need to be successful and how can we address these needs in this draft and FA?

    IMO:

#1) O-Line needs to stay healthy and step it up
#2) We need a Big play WR to draw double teams
#3) We need a "cant miss" TE target over the middle

Great topic man, and I agree with you on the 3 you touched on and I would add a 2nd RB maybe thru the draft if we dont like Parker or Fargus. Just to give Bradford a 2nd one he can count on.
On the TE, we should try to get one in the draft I would go as high as the 2nd round to ensure we get a good one.
The WR well honestly I have no idea. In my plan you wouldnt look for one till the 3rd and can you even get a #1 WR in the third. IDK, FA doesnt offer much for a #1 WR.
anyway Im curious to read the clans input

I agree with you on getting a TE in the 2nd. I don't think he NEEDS a 2nd RB behind Jackson. Last I don't think I would even pick a WR in the draft (unless we get a steal) I still think our WR's are pretty decent, Robinson was coming along just fine at the beginning, and Gibson (vs. the saints) was on fire.

Healthy O-Line is a huge must for us.. (well for any team in general)
Our WRs have a lot of potential, hopefully staying healthy and Nolan Cromwell's routes go pretty well.
I think a tight-end is a 2nd priority must for the Rams (behind QB) as Randy McMichael was proven unsatisfactory last season while we need to play safe and bring a backup for Daniel Fells.

One step of bad luck and you will be wishing for a 2nd RB other than Darby or OB. We have been lucky so far with SJ in both the pounding he takes AND that we have NOONE behind him. Luck doesnt last forever and I for one think its time to get him a good backup.

            Re: What Does Bradford Need???

I think of the three listed, the most important is obviously the health of the OL. Last season there were a few games where the OL looked good together, and was fully healthy. They were a very good run blocking line and decent enough in pass protection. But when they started to get injured the QB play began to suffer because of it.

I think the second most important is a back up RB. Look at Mark Sanchez last year. The Jets had the number 1 rushing attack in the league, led by Thomas Jones but with contributions from guys like Leon Washington and Shonn Greene. Sanchez didnt have too much pressure on him with the running game doing most of the work. With Steven Jackson and a decent no.2 RB, the pressure on Bradford to perform is much less.

I think after that i would like to get a decent receiving TE. Having that TE as a checkdown/safety net is always helpful for a young QB.

I think the need for a WR is less than the others ive put above, simply because we have an ok receiving corps already, where we arent even really ok at back up RB and TE

We need a good o-line first, then good targets, then a good 2nd rb. The only guys on the o-line good enough are Brown and Smith (when he played) . Lets not kid ourselves, i would rather us skip on Bradford until we get all the other weapons in place, the kid will get beat down with our current roster. Robinson, Avery, Gibson and Amendola is a decent receiving corps, but we need a legit no.1 receiver. Robinson will not be that guy, been injured lots. Sooner or later we have to draft one. Rb i put last, simply because there are a few options available, someone like Fargas would do the job, or draft one in the middle rounds. If only the jets hadnt moved ahead of us last year to take Shaun Greene, we would already have been set. (The rams were interested in Greene from what ive heard)

Ill throw this in as well, Qb should be the final piece of the puzzle, THE most important position. We are not set in other positions, do we really think having Bradford beat down for a few years until we get sorted will make him any good? I dont think so. Look at Cassels at the chiefs, great in the Pats team, because they have all the other weapons, rubbish at the Chiefs. A rookie signal caller will only make it worse

I'll go one step further and say we need more than a backup, we need a compliment to Jackson. The guy has been shouldering the team by himself this entire time. And to expect that he wont wear out from being the official battering ram, is stupid.

His compressed disc's are a sign of wear. We need to quit using him like a freakin' suicide runner and play smarter and more dynamic.

                We either need:

                A) Another battering ram like runner and let Jackson be a finese RB (which he is fully capable of)

                B) A versitile RB to threaten defenses in another dimension to relieve Jackson of their focus.

A great offensive line and a great defense is the receipe for success for a young QB.

With a great line talented RB's become superstars. Average or young WR/TE become great.

Why does everybody think we need a good TE for catches in the middle of the field? That's the only thing half of our wideout corps is good for.

Draft Bradford .. miss out on top flight lineman .... Bradford gets hit
Draft Lineman ... miss out on QB ... bulger is better protected ... we still lose.

No we dont need a #1 wide receiver we need some good hands. Bradford is know for his accuracy and good decision making so if have WRs with good reliable hands he will be fine. So our WRs are going to have to work real hard just ask Marc Bulger.

THe TE is very necessary thou Gresham better be ready to joing Bradford in ST louis.

                              Our O-line is decent.
