  • ClanRam Exclusive: Yesterday, I spoke with....

....a member of the Mizzou coaching staff. He and I have the same hobby and cross paths every once in a while. Anyway, he says the buzz going around is that Spoon will NOT be a first round pick. He says the NFL personnel present for Maclin's and Hood's pro day last year does not compare with those present for Spoon this year. Last year there were GMs and HCs present to work those guys out. But it was just positional coaches for Spoon this year. The word out of Columbia is that NFL teams are concerned that Spoon is not instinctive enough, and (for some) he talks too much. He says Spoon's mouth is always running, on and off the field. Nothing bad or disruptive; in fact he is a lockerroom leader......but some front office types get turned off by that.

Point being, for the Spoon fans out there.........he might be available at #33.

If this happens, not only will the Rams have more leverage with the 33rd pick but at the same time it might be difficult to pass up on grabbing him...

That would be nice but I doubt he gets past the Eagles if he's still there in Round 1.

Thanks for sharing...it would be great to see him there in round 2, that's for sure.

I was a little surprised at how emphatic he was about Spoon going in the 2nd. I asked him, "So I guess Spoon has pretty well solidified a spot in the 1st round?" He say, "First day, definitely. But not first round." He went on to say that (before the injury) Alexander was drawing more inquiries than Spoon was.

Speaking of......he said getting off his crutches to stand on the scales was all Alexander could manage at the pro day. He said Alexander went from probably high 2nd rounder to 5th rounder at best.

If Spoon was there I'm sure a team would put together quite a nice package to trade into the Rams' spot to get him, but as many as pointed out, taking him would give the Rams a solid LBs corps for years to come.

Excuse my ignorance on college football but who is this Alexander guy, sounds like he'd be worth a 5th rounder.

Someone should let him know that the draft starts on Thursday this year, before he completely misses it.

Danario Alexander, WR. He had a huge senior year and at one point (a couple of years ago) was starting ahead of Jeremy Maclin (Eagles' 1st rounder last year). Big receiver (6'5", 215) and faster than given credit for. Looks slow because of his long stride, but he runs away from DBs. Played in 'Zou's Spread offense, so there will be some transition time to a pro set. He messed up his leg at the Senior Bowl (IIRC), and hasn't been able to do a thing since then.

True. I assumed his "first day, but not first round" comment to mean 2nd round.

if this guy is there in round 4 , can we please take him.!!!!!!!!!!!

He is a legit nfl starter. I would gladly take a risk on his injuries for a legit nfl starting wr.!!!!!!!

If you can get a skill player of this caliber in round 4 , he is worth the risk !!!!!

The question will be is spags going to take spoon at the #33 pick if he falls. No doubt in my mind he will be the best talent at #33 but that doesnt mean we take him.
