I don't think you can just have a roster full of bad character guys like the Bengals and expect to consistently contend for superbowls superbowls. I think you can have some, but not an overwhelming amount of bad characters if you have strong veteran leadership and your team for the most part is full of high character guys.

What they do on their own time is their business, just entertain me. But, they better not be killers, rapists or child molesters. They can take all the drugs and steroids they want, and bang as many skanks as they want too. That doesn't bother me. Just entertain me.

This completely glosses over the fact that "questionable character" often leads to hold-outs, dysfunctional practices, and suspensions. We're not going 14-2 if our top players get suspended or shot outside a night club, or if the rookies hold out and can't contribute until the end of the season. The Bengals have notoriously ignored character concerns, but when was the last time they went 14-2?

This thread started after what I thought was an unfair thread about which would you rather have high character or talent and everyone was choosing high character. As I stated I know many people with high character but most of them don't even play football. So if I had to choose between those I would choose the one with football skills. Without skills to play football character doesn't mean anything. You can win with skills and lack of character but not with character and no skills. No skills is a 4'5 barber lined up against Marshall a guy with tremendous skill but may have some character flaws according to some people.
The majority in the other thread would like to have high character guys over talent. What this thread is proving is that character vs. skills don't matter it comes down to what players can you get that best helps your team win. Character and skills have to be factored in to who you think gives you the best chance to win all things considered. It also means a guy with less character should not be ruled out as the bigger impact if he has good to superior skills.Last edited by RamsSB99; -04-02-2010, 10:04 PM.
