A high character team that goes 1-15 (like last years Rams) or a team that goes 14-2 and goes to the playoffs but has character issues?

Its a hypothetical question. Would you rather the team that you root for be a bunch of high character guys every year that manage 1 win or would you rather them have character issues and be a team that goes 14-2 and makes the playoffs?

I don't think you can just have a roster full of bad character guys like the Bengals and expect to consistently contend for superbowls superbowls. I think you can have some, but not an overwhelming amount of bad characters if you have strong veteran leadership and your team for the most part is full of high character guys.

Care to provide some options that actually fall within those two extremes you posited?

No its a simple hypothetical question do you prefer winning over losing with a high character team. No more need for options. Pick.

And it depends. I'd take a 1-15 team of boy scouts over a 14-2 Rogues gallery of suspected murderers and drug traffickers. I'd take a 9-7 team with good character over an 11-5 team that I hear about all off season regarding minor run-ins with the law. However, if the good character team is 1-15 and your "questionable" characters on the 14-2 team are few and never exceed the misdemeanor level, I'd take it.

What they do on their own time is their business, just entertain me. But, they better not be killers, rapists or child molesters. They can take all the drugs and steroids they want, and bang as many skanks as they want too. That doesn't bother me. Just entertain me.

What a horrible and useless question. Causing un-needed drama.

This completely glosses over the fact that "questionable character" often leads to hold-outs, dysfunctional practices, and suspensions. We're not going 14-2 if our top players get suspended or shot outside a night club, or if the rookies hold out and can't contribute until the end of the season. The Bengals have notoriously ignored character concerns, but when was the last time they went 14-2?

It's hypothetical in hypothetical you deal with what you know. What we know is one team went 14-2 and the other went 1-15 so obviously the stuff you mentioned did not happen. It's not that hard to understand.

This thread started after what I thought was an unfair thread about which would you rather have high character or talent and everyone was choosing high character. As I stated I know many people with high character but most of them don't even play football. So if I had to choose between those I would choose the one with football skills. Without skills to play football character doesn't mean anything. You can win with skills and lack of character but not with character and no skills. No skills is a 4'5 barber lined up against Marshall a guy with tremendous skill but may have some character flaws according to some people.

The majority in the other thread would like to have high character guys over talent. What this thread is proving is that character vs. skills don't matter it comes down to what players can you get that best helps your team win. Character and skills have to be factored in to who you think gives you the best chance to win all things considered. It also means a guy with less character should not be ruled out as the bigger impact if he has good to superior skills.
