Started working on this one before the wedding, but didn't get it done until today. As always, feedback is appreciated!
ROUND ONE
1. St. Louis Rams: Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
-Bradford’s positive showing at his pro day combined with the release of Marc Bulger continue the momentum of him being the likely pick for the Rams.
2. Detroit Lions: Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
-Detroit traded for Seattle guard Rob Sims, which means Jeff Backus is likely staying outside at tackle. This makes the selection of Ndamukong Suh more likely.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma
-As a quick penetrator from the three technique position, McCoy is an ideal fit for what Tampa Bay is looking for at the position.
4. Washington Redskins: Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State
-The trade for Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb all but secures that the Redskins will go offensive line with this selection, taking the best on the board in Okung.
5. Kansas City Chiefs: Brian Bulaga, OT, Iowa
-Eric Berry might be the better player, but the Chiefs will have to do a better job protecting Matt Cassell if they want him to succeed. Thus, they’ll take Bulaga.
6. Seattle Seahawks: Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma
-Trading for Charlie Whitehurst means the Seahawks aren’t going to take Jimmy Clausen here; instead, they shore up their offensive line by drafting Williams.
7. Cleveland Browns: Eric Berry, DB, Tennessee
-Great scenario for the Browns, as a run on offensive tackles has caused Tennessee stand-out Eric Berry to slide to them; he should become an immediate starter at safety.
8. Oakland Raiders: Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida
-Though Oakland traded for Kamerion Wimbley, they plan to use him at linebacker. Pierre-Paul would team with Richard Seymour and provide Oakland with a dangerous pass rush.
9. Buffalo Bills: Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
-With the top three tackles off the board, do the Bills reach for Anthony Davis? Dan Williams is tempting here as well, but ultimately I think they could go after their quarterback if the cards fall this way.
10. Jacksonville Jaguars: Joe Haden, CB, Florida
-The Jaguars will likely look to move down from this spot, but if they can’t, they’ll be wise to consider Florida’s Joe Haden as a potential starter next to Rashean Mathis.
11. Denver Broncos (f/CHI): Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama
-Oklahoma State receiver Dez Bryant is tempting here, but the Broncos need to find more pieces for their 3-4 defense. McClain is an ideal inside ‘backer.
12. Miami Dolphins: Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee
-The suspension of Jason Ferguson means the Dolphins are going to have some nose tackle issues this season. Williams can be part of a rotation before taking over full time down the road.
13. San Francisco *****: Earl Thomas, DB, Texas
-The ***** could use upgrades both at the cornerback and safety positions; lucky for them, Earl Thomas can probably contribute at either spot.
14. Seattle Seahawks (f/DEN): C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson
-After getting their offensive tackle with their first pick, the Seahawks continue to address their offense by adding a playmaking runner in Spiller.
15. New York Giants: Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Missouri
-The Giants missed out on McClain, but are more than happy to take the draft’s second best linebacker in Weatherspoon, whom some feel is the better 4-3 fit anyways.
16. Tennessee Titans: Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech
-The Titans’ biggest needs are on defense, especially at end after Kyle Vanden Bosch left for Detroit. Derrick Morgan is great value here and should contribute immediately.
17. San Francisco ***** (f/CAR): Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers
-In need of a starting right tackle, the ***** turn to Rutgers lineman Anthony Davis, taking advantage of his slipping draft stock.
18. Pittsburgh Steelers: Mike Iupati, OL, Idaho
-Pittsburgh would have loved to see Davis slip here, but instead they’ll elect to draft Idaho’s Iupati, who can contribute immediately at guard but could also shift to right tackle.
19. Atlanta Falcons: Sergio Kindle, LB, Texas
-The Falcons could certainly use an upgrade at the linebacker position, and while Weatherspoon would have been ideal, Kindle is nothing to sneeze at.
20. Houston Texans: Ryan Mathews, RB, Fresno State
-The Texans feel as if they need to improve on their talent at running back, and Ryan Mathews looks like a legitimate first round option.
21. Cincinnati Bengals: Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State
-Even though the Bengals added one Bryant (Antonio) this offseason, they very well may add another if Dez falls to them. They’ll have the luxury of bringing him along slowly and allowing him to mature.
22. New England Patriots: Jared Odrick, DL, Penn State
-Penn State’s Odrick is a hot prospect right now, with talk that he could pique the interest of Cleveland or Denver. He’d be an ideal five-technique for the Patriots if he’s available here.
23. Green Bay Packers: Brandon Graham, LB, Michigan
-The Packers added Clay Matthews last year, but the loss of Aaron Kampman means they have a hole opposite of the former Trojan. Graham will be a pass rushing machine for the Pack.
24. Philadelphia Eagles: Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State
-Trading away Sheldon Brown leaves the Eagles with a hole at cornerback. Though they may have preferred to address either of their lines here, Wilson is too good to pass up.
25. Baltimore Ravens: Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma
-The long-term heir to Todd Heap’s job is needed in Baltimore, especially if the Ravens want to keep providing Joe Flacco with some nice weapons.
26. Arizona Cardinals: Jerry Hughes, LB, TCU
-Joey Porter’s signing doesn’t reduce the long-term need at outside linebacker. Hughes is a pass rush extraordinaire who would be a nice fit in Arizona’s 3-4 scheme.
27. Dallas Cowboys: Taylor Mays, S, USC
-Ken Hamlin’s release creates a big hole at safety. Mays showed flashes at the Senior Bowl of being able to make plays on the ball, and should be able to step into the starting line-up quickly.
28. San Diego Chargers: Jahvid Best, RB, California
-The Chargers would have loved Ryan Mathews here, but he wasn’t falling by Houston. Instead, they’ll opt for Cal’s Jahvid Best to create a tandem with Darren Sproles.
29. New York Jets: Golden Tate, WR, Notre Dame
-The Jets traded for Braylon Edwards, but could certainly still use help on offense, where Mark Sanchez would love some more weapons.
30. Minnesota Vikings: Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers
-The health concerns surrounding Antoine Winfield and Cedric Griffin make cornerback an area of need; McCourty is a nice pick in the late first round.
31. Indianapolis Colts: Brian Price, DT, UCLA
-The Colts could look for a lineman like Charles Brown, but I think they’re more likely to spend their first round pick elsewhere. Price would be a huge upgrade for their interior DL.
32. New Orleans Saints: Everson Griffen, DE, USC
-Whether it’s Leonard Little, James Hall, or Alex Brown, the Saints want to find someone to replace Charles Grant. They’ll be ecstatic to see Griffen fall here.
ROUND TWO
33. St. Louis Rams: Demaryius Thomas, WR, Georgia Tech
-If Sam Bradford is going to be successful, he’s going to need some more weapons to throw to. Thomas has been mentioned as a possible first rounder.
34. Detroit Lions: Kareem Jackson, CB, Alabama
-The Lions don’t have much in the secondary, so while an offensive tackle is tempting, I think the value and positional need of cornerback may win out.
35. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida
-A big drop for Dunlap, but the Buccaneers aren’t going to complain. Can you imagine McCoy and Dunlap on the same line? Yikes!
36. Kansas City Chiefs: Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois
-The Chiefs drafted a tackle to improve Matt Cassell’s protection; now they’ll need to draft a receiver to try and surround him with more weapons to throw to.
37. Philadelphia Eagles (f/WAS): Maurkice Pouncey, OL, Florida
-Eagles starting center Jamaal Jackson turns 30 this year and is coming off of a late season ACL tear. Pouncey gives them someone to groom behind him.
38. Cleveland Browns: Colt McCoy, QB, Texas
-The Browns passed on Jimmy Clausen in the first round, but have shown interest in Colt McCoy and could snag him here in the second.
39. Oakland Raiders: Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland
-Many are projecting Bruce Campbell to Oakland in the first. But some describe his game tape as being closer to a fourth rounder. Either way, if he’s here, Oakland would probably be happy.
40. San Diego Chargers (f/SEA): Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama
-Cody will likely get consideration by San Diego with their first round selection, but the Chargers may feel better about his chances of making it to this pick than Jahvid Best’s.
41. Buffalo Bills: Charles Brown, OT, USC
-The Bills didn’t want to reach for an offensive tackle in the first, so instead they’ll take Charles Brown here, where he is good value.
42. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (f/CHI): Nate Allen, S, South Florida
-The Bucs continue to address their defense, this time by selecting a safety who can help improve their defensive backfield.
43. Miami Dolphins: Ricky Sapp, LB, Clemson
-The Dolphins have seemingly moved on from the days of Joey Porter and Jason Taylor. A new candidate at outside linebacker is needed.
44. New England (f/JAX): Damian Williams, WR, USC
-Randy Moss is entering a contract year and may not be brought back. Williams is very good value here and could emerge in the Patriots’ offense.
45. Denver Broncos: Vladimir Ducasse, OL, Massachusetts
-The Broncos would like to improve their talent at both guard and tackle, in case Ryan Harris becomes injured again. Ducasse could provide help at either spot.
46. New York Giants: Lamarr Houston, DT, Texas
-Having addressed their hole at middle linebacker, the Giants’ next priority is their ability to pressure the opposition. Houston is a good penetrator who could emerge in this group of tackles.
47. New England Patriots (f/TEN): Patrick Robinson, CB, Florida State
-Combine Robinson with last year’s second round pick Darius Butler, and the Patriots may have their long term starting CB tandem.
48. Carolina Panthers: Tyson Alualu, DT, California
-The Panthers lost Julius Peppers but they feel they have some candidates to replace him. They also lost Damione Lewis to New England, so they’ll need to restock at DT.
49. San Francisco *****: Koa Misi, LB, Utah
-The combo of Manny Lawson and Ahmad Brooks is serviceable, but Misi has been making waves this offseason as an ideal candidate for the 3-4 OLB position.
50. Kansas City Chiefs (f/ATL): Morgan Burnett, S, Georgia Tech
-It’s tough to believe that the Chiefs are content with John McGraw and Mike Brown at safety. They passed on Eric Berry earlier and are rewarded with Burnett here.
51. Houston Texans: Brandon Ghee, CB, Wake Forest
-Losing Dunta Robinson creates some uncertainty at the cornerback position. Ghee has been impressive this offseason and would be great value here.
52. Pittsburgh Steelers: Chris Cook, DB, Virginia
-Some speculate that the Steelers could go CB in the first round; I think they’ll be hard pressed to pass up a lineman, so they may look for a corner here.
53. New England Patriots: Rob Gronkowski, TE, Arizona
-The Patriots let Ben Watson go and brought in Alge Crumpler, but Gronkowski gives them a young talent to develop for the future.
54. Cincinnati Bengals: Chad Jones, S, LSU
-The Bengals passed on Taylor Mays in the first round to take Dez Bryant, but look for them to explore some options at safety soon after.
55. Philadelphia Eagles: Alex Carrington, DE, Arkansas State
-Defensive end was a first round consideration for the Eagles, so after addressing their secondary and offensive line, they should return to the DL here.
56. Green Bay Packers: Rodger Saffold, OT, Indiana
-The Packers’ offensive line is in need of some help, and Indiana’s Saffold is the best lineman on the board. He could potentially help out at either guard or tackle.
57. Baltimore Ravens: Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, CB, Indiana (PA)
-Owusu-Ansah is a small school sleeper in this draft that many have pegged as an emerging second rounder. The Ravens could certainly use help at cornerback.
58. Arizona Cardinals: Jimmy Graham, TE, Miami
-Arizona’s personnel at tight end is nothing to write home about. They lost one offensive weapon in Boldin, but hope they’ll have gained a long-term weapon here in Graham.
59. Dallas Cowboys: Dexter McCluster, WR, Mississippi
-The Cowboys have been showing interest in receivers, and McCluster is the kind of guy who can be dangerous when the ball is in his hands.
60. Seattle Seahawks (f/SD): Amari Spievey, CB, Iowa
-Eric Berry was a legitimate first round consideration because of the lack of talent in Seattle’s secondary. Spievey is a quality player to get in the late second round.
61. New York Jets: Corey Wootton, DE, Northwestern
-I’m higher on Wootton than some others, so if he’s available to the Jets here in the late second, he’d be a great fit as a five-technique lineman.
62. Minnesota Vikings: Tim Tebow, QB, Florida
-The Vikings get their quarterback of the future, and Tebow enters into a great situation to hone his skills and develop for the future.
63. Indianapolis Colts: Jared Veldheer, OT, Hillsdale
-The Colts passed on Charles Brown earlier so they could address their defense. Now, they’ll give a hard look to the massive Veldheer.
64. New Orleans Saints: Daryl Washington, LB, TCU
-The Saints probably won’t get lucky enough to have Sean Weatherspoon fall to them in the first round, but having Washington available here is nothing to sneeze at.
RAMS MOCK DRAFT
Round Three (65): Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech
-The Rams need to find a legitimate #2 running back to share the load behind Steven Jackson; Dwyer is a guy with starting-caliber potential.
Round Four (96): Brandon Lang, DE, Troy
-Lang flashed a lot of athleticism at his pro day, and remains a good option for the Rams if they’re looking for a pass rusher in the middle rounds.
Round Five (128): Garrett Graham, TE, Wisconsin
-Graham is a solid all-around tight end who could come in and immediately compete for time in a rather thin tight end unit.
Round Five (151): Pat Angerer, LB, Iowa
-Angerer has a great motor and work ethic; he could be a contender for time at weak-side linebacker behind expected free agent Na’il Diggs.
Round Six (160): Robert Johnson, FS, Utah
-Depending on how things go with O.J. Atogwe, the Rams may be looking for help at safety. Johnson is a lanky centerfielder who has some upside.
Round Seven (192): Thomas Welch, OT, Vanderbilt
-Welch could possibly provide some depth at offensive tackle, where the Rams could use some help.
Round Seven (210): Jay Ross, DT, East Carolina
-Ross has NFL-caliber size and could compete for a roster spot at defensive tackle, where there are more questions than answers.
ROUND ONE
1. St. Louis Rams: Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
-Bradford’s positive showing at his pro day combined with the release of Marc Bulger continue the momentum of him being the likely pick for the Rams.
