  • Report: Giants could be willing to shop Osi

    Per rotoworld:

The Giants will reportedly be willing to shop Osi Umenyiora on draft day if they select Jason Pierre-Paul with the 15th overall pick.
Umenyiora "can be had for the right price," according to Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post. Though Umenyiora is coming off a poor season, he is due manageable money over the life of his contract and could probably use a change of scenery. He may also be available for as little as a mid-round pick.

    Bring your boy home Spags.

What is a "mid round pick"?

That could be anything from a 2nd-6th rounder.

    Bradford
    Demyrius Thomas
    Sean Lee
    Osi
    Scheffler

That sounds mighty nice to start the draft.

Pull some strings! Get this beast in here! Our 4th rounder is practically a 3rd anyways. Give it up!

Come on Rams, its about time we jump into the action of trading mid round picks for established players, ie santonio holmes, kerry rhodes, antonio cromartie, and anquan boldin.

Osi would make our whole defense better, and I have no doubt Spags can get him back to that 10+ sacks/ year level of play.

It makes too much sense not to pull the trigger!

Just browsing the web for Osi Rams rumors and came across these tweets from two days ago on Chris Mortensons twitter:

On The Mort Report on ESPN Radio, I mentioned 3 teams for possible Giants' Osi Umenyiora trade: Dolphins, Rams & Panthers

RT @tpw8791: @mortreport gints fan, what odds u put on osi trade? >> 60-40 he's traded, maybe higher

          BRING HIM HERE!

I predicted last season as soon as Osi was dropped from the starting 4 that he would become a Ram this year! I still believe that. He bought into Spags system perfectly with the Gnats. Spags was able to generate his most productive play during his career. I think he would fill out our D line nicely.

I'm trying to read through these posts for something that's not just someone thinking out loud of what could happen in their madden franchise.

Come on folks, these are just random thoughts written down on the internet, based on absolutely nothing, with no facts mentioned at all. Let's all take a deep breath and relax...

Osi had knee surgery after the '08 season. He may not be the player that he was under Spags. Like Pierce, he may be broken. No one will know better than Spags so I'll trust his judgment on this one.

There has been talk about moving Osi since his demotion. He feuded with the Spags replacement at DC, who has since be replaced. Osi also had a very off year. Part of that may be deteriorating skills, not 100% from the injury and lack of help elsewhere on the D. He was very soft against the run in 2009. I would not be surprised if he's moved. It's a where there's smoke there's fire thing. When a guy this high profile is mentioned in trade talks there is usually something behind it or the team would be denying it up and down in the press.

I was hoping at the end of the season when it came out that Osi was unhappy we'd make a play or at least inquire about moving him over. Now it looks quasi realistic. This would be amazing for this team. Get a top flight RDE and move Long to LDE too, can't even begin to imagine how much better our D would look.

I hate to keep repeating myself, but the odds of us taking on a guy at a high salary, regardless of the cost in picks, are not good, given the uncertainty of the ownership situation. If his salary is relatively cheap because the bulk of the money was already paid in an upfront bonus, we might have a shot, but is he really much better than leonard little at this point?

Would love to see the Rams try to package a reasonable deal to get Umenyura from the Giants. The possibility makes perfect sense, as the Giants just drafted the DE from South Florida, Umenyura has expressed past unhappiness at the prospect of not starting and of course the Rams need a defensive end with an aging Leonard Little nearing the end. The Spags-reunion factor makes this plausible.

                                Comments or thoughts??

Report: Brandon Jacobs will ask for trade
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 20, 2010 10:07 AM ET

Will Brandon Jacobs' east-west run and subsequent helmet toss/benching be his final act as a New York Giant?

That's what Jacobs hopes, according to a report from Vinny DiTrani, longtime writer of the Bergen Record that just can't stop covering Big Blue. DiTrani reports that Jacobs will meet with Giants management Monday and request a trade.

Good luck with that. Perhaps a divorce is best for both sides, but there is no team that would remotely be interested in Jacobs considering his salary and attitude. He's toxic. Oh, and he hasn't been particularly effective since the start of 2009.

The Giants gave Jacobs $13 million guaranteed before 2009 and surely regret it now. He no longer produces and seems to take his frustration out on others. There's next to no chance he'll be back in New York at $4.65 million next year, so the only question is whether the Giants keep him for the rest of this year.

Considering the money they have already paid Jacobs, we'd think they'd try to calm Jacobs down and get something out of him. They are getting used to that.

5 Things the Rams can learn from the Champion Giants
                                by AvengerRam_old
                                1. Be Patient With Your Franchise QB. Here are Eli Manning's passer ratings for his first four seasons: 55.4, 75.9, 77.0, 73.9. Sam Bradford needs time and weapons. Give him both.

                                2. Front 4 Pressure Provides a Huge Advantage. If the Rams can one day generate the kind of pressure the Giants do with their front four by adding some DTs to Chris Long and Robert Quinn, that could become the core of the defense.

                                3. Don't Underestimate the Value of BPA Picks. When the Giants drafted Jason Pierre-Paul, they already had Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora and Matthias Kiwanuka on their roster. However, this pick has paid HUGE dividends, not only in terms of JPP's play, but in the way he's helped them maintain their pass rush while Tuck and Osi were injured. Also, with JPP there, a guy like Osi failed in his effort to extort a new contract. You know... maybe I need to consider adding Quinton Coples to my next draft board...

                                4. Schemes Should Adjust to Players, Not the Other Way Around. When the Giants won the Super Bowl in 2006, it was thunder (Jacobs) and lightning (Bradshaw) leading the way. This time, it was Eli throwing to Nicks, Manningham and Cruz that got them to the big game. Same head coach, different players, different approach.

                                5. Just Make the Playoffs. The Giants (like last year's Packers) demonstrated that the playoffs are really a "second season" where seeding and home field advantage are important, but not necessarily determinative factors.

                                Shakeup looming for Giants D
                                By Ralph Vacchiano
                                December 4, 2009 11:53 AM

Six weeks of bad defensive play has finally caused defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan to make some changes — or so it seems.

It appears that defensive end Osi Umenyiora and defensive tackle Fred Robbins have been sent to the bench in favor of end Mathias Kiwanuka and tackle Chris Canty. Kiwanuka and Canty were working with the first team this morning during the brief portion of practice open to the media, and Umenyiora and Robbins were working with the second team.

I should also note that there was reportedly a report on the NFL Network this week (I didn’t see it, nor have I confirmed it, which is why I’m saying “reportedly a report”) that Umenyiora will only be used on passing downs. And after the way the Denver Broncos appeared to target him (and, at times, Canty) with their runs last Thursday, that probably shouldn’t be a surprise.

That shakeup is probably long overdue since the Giants’ defensive line has been shockingly ineffective lately. Robbins has had one sack this season and Umenyiora has only five. Neither of them have had a sack since the bye week. Of course Canty, who got a six-year, $42 million deal from the Giants in March and has only been back from injury for the last three games, is still looking for his first sack of the season. And Kiwanuka has just three sacks on the year, including none in the last four games.

Meanwhile, defensive tackle Rocky Bernard, he of the four-year, $16 million free agent contract, might be even farther down in the rotation. The Giants practiced a goal-line defense drill during the portion of practice we were allowed to watch and Bernard - - one sack this season, none in the last seven games - - wasn’t included.

Maybe we’ll get some more information on this shakeup when Tom Coughlin addresses the media in about an hour … though I wouldn’t count on it.

As for the rest of the defense, it appears to be as expected, but without safety Michael Johnson, who is missing his third straight day of practice with a strained groin. It appears that C.C. Brown will be reinserted into the starting lineup in Johnson’s place, with Aaron Ross picking up third safety duties in the dime defense.

Interestingly, when the Giants ran their second-team defense in practice while the media was present, they ran it with only 10 players. Nobody was filling the second safety spot.

I have no explanation for that. It’s hard to imagine they’re trying to hide something. It’s not as if the thought that they might promote Sha-reff Rashad or Vince Anderson off the practice squad to play on the second team would force the Cowboys to alter their game plan. And they’re not going to sign an impact safety this late in the week. In...
