We can safely assume that the Rams will take their QB of the future in Round 1 or 2 of the draft.
I think the Rams should consider taking another QB in Round 7 of the draft.
Hear me out...
Let's say the Rams, as expected, take Sam Bradford. That would result in a depth chart (once Bradford rises to the No. 1 spot, which will happen eventually if not immediately) of Bradford, Feeley and Null.
Feeley is a nearly 33. He will likely play no more than 2 years with the Rams.
Null is still a raw prospect.
Eventually, it would be good to have a young QB prospect behind Bradford (if for no other purpose than as potential trade bait - look what Charlie Whitehurst yielded for the Chargers without ever even playing a regular season down).
The Rams have three picks in the 7th round. Here are a few QBs who could still be available:
Levi Brown, Troy
Jevan Snead, Ole Miss
Tim Hiller, Western Michigan
Sean Canfield, Oregon State
Johnathan Crompton, Tennessee
I think the Rams should take one of those guys and let him compete with Null (and Mike Reilly, I suppose). Whoever wins the battle would be the No. 3 QB in 2010. The "loser" would go on the practice squad.
Given the number of picks the Rams possess, I think this would be a worthwhile gamble.
