  • The Rams Should Consider Taking 2 QBs In The Draft

We can safely assume that the Rams will take their QB of the future in Round 1 or 2 of the draft.

I think the Rams should consider taking another QB in Round 7 of the draft.

    Hear me out...

Let's say the Rams, as expected, take Sam Bradford. That would result in a depth chart (once Bradford rises to the No. 1 spot, which will happen eventually if not immediately) of Bradford, Feeley and Null.

Feeley is a nearly 33. He will likely play no more than 2 years with the Rams.

Null is still a raw prospect.

Eventually, it would be good to have a young QB prospect behind Bradford (if for no other purpose than as potential trade bait - look what Charlie Whitehurst yielded for the Chargers without ever even playing a regular season down).

The Rams have three picks in the 7th round. Here are a few QBs who could still be available:

    Levi Brown, Troy
    Jevan Snead, Ole Miss
    Tim Hiller, Western Michigan
    Sean Canfield, Oregon State
    Johnathan Crompton, Tennessee

I think the Rams should take one of those guys and let him compete with Null (and Mike Reilly, I suppose). Whoever wins the battle would be the No. 3 QB in 2010. The "loser" would go on the practice squad.

Given the number of picks the Rams possess, I think this would be a worthwhile gamble.

No it is not a worthwhile gamble.

Charlie Whitehurst had some excellent QB coaching. Something that we defiantly do not posses.

Also i dont see why we waste a pick on a 7th this year when we can just waste a 7th in 2 years when feeley is gone.

Also how often does this Charlie WHitehurst thing happen?

Not too often. And we can use the 7th rounder on depth (we dont need QB depth) like D-line and LB.

6th round and beyond is a complete crap shoot. I like the idea taking a chance on a qb because it has the potential for the highest pay out.

I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on Snead if he's available in the 7th. He's pretty raw, but he at least has some tools to work with. Decision making isn't the best though, but still in the 7th, I think he'd be a good project.

I hope you aren't hoping for Bradford in a couple days then.

            .
Sounds good to me. I also like taking a late round qb flier every few years, due to the potential return.

I wouldn't mind taking a young QB, but, I thought Null was going to be our "young QB prospect"?

I would be satisfied with just developing Null and Reilly. I remember Reilly wasn't that bad of a prospect coming out of college.

I'd rather cut Josh Brown, save his massive salary figure and draft a kicker.

I agree AV, and of that group I like Canfield the most. When you watch him play you can actually see him running a NFL offense, but alot of guys dont' know about him because of where he played and the fact that he played on the west coast.

You do realize that our OC, before coming to the Rams, was the Eagles QB coach for 7 years, during which time he helped develop Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb, right?

                      Using a 7th on a 3rd string QB is a gamble?

                      Really?

Jarret Brown, Darryl Clark, or Armanti Edwards could be good picks simply because you could use them at another position eventually

McNabb had been in the NFL for 3 years prior to Shurmur taking that job. Shurmur didn't develop him-he babysat him in what amounts to a sinecure job. I also think everyone's jury is out as to how well he did with Kolb until we see how he performs this season.
