There are a LOT of really good players available still.

Griffen, Sapp, Wooten (add DEs), Aaron Hernandez TE, Gilyard the WR from Cincy.

If the Rams had taken Griffen in the 2nd, people would have been happy. It's funny how that works.

I agree rebel. ITs amazing how many fans scream "How could the rams not take griffen....." and then 40 picks later he is still available (meaning the rams werent the only team that passed on him). He sure appears to be a good value at the top of round 4, but there may well be missing data (ie medical, bad interviews etc)

Im very much so wondering what's the deal there. Makes me wary of picking him now lol. Medical? Character?

I trust the Rams and so far am satisfied with this draft.

The Patriots had called Everson Griffen and said they were taking him until Carolina came up with that ridiculous offer at the last minute. That should tell you everything you need to know. If the Pats are interested, everyone should be interested.

So what's the deal with Griffen? He was projected to be late first round to second round at the worst, and now here he is available in the 4th. Thinking I had missed something, I looked everywhere to see if I could find health or charecter concerns and there are none other than what was called a lack of motivation during his sophomore year.

I remember watching him play against Notre Dame this year and he was in the backfield all day, got 2 sacks and a blocked kick I think. He was top among DE's in the 40 and benchpress at the combine at 4.65 and 32 reps.

He is someone I had been hoping would be a possibility for the Rams to take in the 2nd if we went Bradford 1st, and I am SHOCKED he is still here.

So what am I missing that every team has seen to pass him by?

And how the heck can we not take him in round 4?

well if every team in the league passed on him 4 times, something is up. Just reminds you how out of the loop fans really are and how they have no clue what they're talking about, but ALWAYS think they do and get pissed when the team doesn't do what they ask...

                  Per rotoworld

the patriots reportedly had everson griffen on the phone, ready to pick him at no. 89, before the panthers called to trade up for armanti edwards.
The panthers' target is somewhat laughable, but the important nugget here is that we now know griffen is a target for new england. The pats currently don't pick next until no. 113 (the 15th pick of round four), but could make a trade up to no. 99 (st. Louis) if they're serious about griffen. Otherwise the rams would probably love to add griffen to their pass-rushing corps.

I agree completely. Professional scouts see the important stuff, we see the highlight reel.

It's all about the character and work ethic it seems to me. At the 4th round that is hard to pass up but we'll see. Claude Wrotten wouldn't have been worth a 4th round pick regardless of his talent and abilities.

If he's good enough for the Pats, he's good enough for the Rams...

I think this everytime I read a post of someone screaming bloody murder because a sure-fire pro bowler was just passed up.

                          Ugh.

The fact is, the Pats are the best at evaluating talent through all rounds which is why they are a consistently good team and why they can plug and play depth players and have great results.

If the Pats were interested enough to call, and we can grab him later, we need to make that pick. Not only is he BPA, he fits a HUGE need.

This was from Rotoworld on March 31:

USC DE Everson Griffen ran a 4.6-flat forty-yard dash at the Trojans' Pro Day on Wednesday.
The time is sensational for a 6'4/273-pound defensive lineman. Griffin doesn't quite have the production to match his eye-popping measurables, but he's seemingly solidified a spot in the first round with a sterling offseason.
What in the world did he do to plummet this much?

                              That's the big question...

I think though, for a fourth, he's worth the risk if it's not a severe injury or anything.

If it's for his personality, this is what I've found: "Was arrested and charged with breach of the peace after a Fourth of July party in Nantucket, Massachusetts in 2009. The charges were ultimately dropped, though Griffen (and teammate Jordan Campbell) was asked to write letters of apology to the Nantucket Police Department and his teammates." Who hasn't got a little rowdy at a party, he apologized and was never charged, this doesn't worry me to much. There are also questions about his work ethics, but I think Spags can light a fire under him. He and Dunlap are similar talent and have similar questions (I think Griffen is a better talent), but Dunlap is long gone.
