  • Thoughts on the Rams First 3 Rounds

This is my thought process for every single Rams pick up to 99 where we currently sit:

    1. You better be our franchise QB Mr. Bradford being we need one and we passed on a hell of a defensive playmaker for you. You look and sound like a franchise QB, but how do you handle pressure? I hope you're shoulder holds up and that seemingly extra zip you put on the ball after surgury remains.

    33. Trade the pick, nobody really impresses me all that much, you can get a player you like equally as much as whoever you take and pick up a future pick... I'm hearing even a future first rounder. ROGER SAFFOLD? Wow, that was unexpected, but worth protecting the new QB. We're going to have good young bookends and an excellent o-line... might even be the strength of this team next year. I was expecting a defensive playmaker or a skilled receiver, but this could work.

    65. Come on Everson Griffen... our DE's are pathetic right now. Someone on the other side of Long could really help. JEROME MURPHY? Another unexpected pick, I didn't think that we would pick up a corner. He's pretty big which we like and fits our system well, but that's the spot on defense we need the least help. I guess they really like his potential and aggressiveness. I'll take a wait and see approach with this.

    99. HOLY CRAP, PLEASE, EVERSON GRIFFEN! I've been waiting a whole round and was considering him a decent selection at 33. THE PATRIOTS CALLED HIM AND WERE GOING TO SELECT HIM UNTIL THE PANTHERS MADE THAT RIDICULOUS TRADE! Everyone the Pats picks turns into gold and that just makes me want him more. This was a boarder line first round guy on many mocks... take the easy value like all the good teams do. The only way you can make this pick good without drafting him is trading it to the Giants for Osi. Value and a need, this is a perfect storm. I would have loved Jimmy Graham here and hoped Austen Lane would fall to the 5th, but those darn Saints stole him.

This is who I'd like to see in the 4th and 5th rounds, this might be a stretch, but would be a dream scenario:

    99. Everson Griffen, DE, USC

    132. Aaron Hernandez, TE, Florida or Dennis Pitta, TE, BYU

    135. Perry Riley, OLB, LSU

Re: Thoughts on the Rams First 3 Rounds

I'm a little saddened with the Rams Draft so far.:|

The Rams couldn't go wrong with QB Sam Bradford.

This is where it saddened me. The Rams not trading down for more picks and still getting a qaulity player. The extra 3rd & 4th round pick for moving down would have given Bradford a chance on more weapons on offence.

The third pick a CB which shocked me. I don't see a need at CB as bad as OLB, TE or DE.

I'm not a big fan of DE Everson Griffen (USC), but a need. So the Rams will probally trade down for more picks now that alot of the Top teir players are gone.

I'll be happy with all the players because I'm a Ram fan til I DIE! ! ! !

    Go Rams ! ! !

    But a little dissapointed:|

I was very surprised with the 2nd & 3rd round picks. Cant say im disappointed, but surprised nonetheless. I was getting too excited hoping for Bradfords weapons, or some heat on our DL with the 2nd pick, but this is what separates the Professionals from the fans. Saffold is a solid, Disciplined pick. With the 3rd I also didnt expect it, but we could definitely use the help at db not to mention the value is great. Oh yeah, and Murphy being a hard knock hitter cant hurt either.

Im still keeping my fingers crossed for a DL help but now im leaning towards Hernandez. So far so good though..

All I can say is "we're not done yet." That's what I have to tell my home buyers one or two months before we finish building their house. By the time we move them in they are happy as a clam. Because we know what is left to be done and they don't. As fans we all get ahead of ourselves, but look, Griffen is still on the board in the fourth round. None of us thought he would be. That should tell you right there that they know things that we don't. Have patience and let's see what our draft looks like when all of the pieces of the puzzle are complete. Then we can critique what we've done. And it still won't be a complete picture at that point. There are still a few rounds of cuts by other teams before our first regular season game to go through to fill some of our needs. So, just keep in mind, we're not done yet. Personally, I'm pretty excited about what is yet to come. Be patient grasshopper. This isn't the Linewho regime anymore. In DeSapgs I trust. Think about it...we have a long way to go before the start of the season and we've acquired some good pieces to the puzzle already. We're not done yet. Hello!

I know that there is something that is causing him to drop, but at some point, someone is going to take the leap and at some point, the reward outweighs the risk. This is a 270 pound end who ran a 4.59, flat out faster than some RB's. This is a huge position of need and would go a long way to us grading out very highly after the draft.

I actually like the picks we've made so far (I don't know if my first post gives that impression), they just weren't what I expected to happen. I do think we got value in all rounds, no AMAZING value picks (until Griffen tomorrow), but we haven't reached and we've got some solid players so far.

                Bradford= we needed a QB

Safford= Great pick imo, bookend tackles for years to come with Brown in the center absolutely outstanding. Bell at LG, Fraley at RG, I guess this is why BD was saying that he considered the O line to be a strength in 2010, then everyone else is depth and competition.

Murphey=Great pick, its a passing league and so far in this draft I think the Rams have shown that they GET IT. We need a DE no question but with good CBs it gives us lots of flexibility for our front 7 packages.

So far we have not taken the popular or sexy picks but we have addressed 3 spots with potential preseason starters, and I like it.

If we dont trade for Osi then I would grab the DE in the 4rth.

                GO RAMS!!!

griffen, wooten or lane at de, hernandez is a nice tight end, mcknight an explosive back. we could possibly trade down with this pick, but i'm not counting on it, i like the first 3 picks for the most part so i can't wait for tomorrow, 4th and 5th round will have some legit talent available.

We're doing great on the value of our picks according to the NFL website. The rankings are out of 10 and Bradford scored 8.7, Saffold an 8.1 and Murphy a 7.7.

In round one, the highest grade was 8.8 (Gerald McCoy), round two, 8.6 (Clausen) and round 3's highest was 7.8 (Asamoah). All things considered, I don't think the media will have any problems with our draft. It's not what was expected, but the picks are solid and not huge reaches.

For the record, Griffen has an 8.0 ranking and would pretty much be guaranteed to be the highest ranked player selected in round 4.

I guess my point is, don't get worked up over what the media says, good or bad. I remember Kiper grading drafts by the Cardinals as A+ and three years later almost no one from those drafts was still on the team. I will admit I like getting good grades by the media, but you can't put much stock in it. For all the times people like to say teams get it wrong, the media does a LOT as well.

Absolutely! But, I doubt that they would have gotten both a 3rd and a 4th. They apparently didn't think they could get their guy and still get the value in pick(s) that they felt was appropriate. But, that's not the player that I would have expected that they would have wanted anyway. The pick is not what I expected us to do and not what I would have liked us to do. But, there again, OT was not on my radar at the time. Like most of us, I expected us to go DE, TE/WR, OLB, RB. But, we didn't. So, one has to try to understand why we didn't go that way. Did I agree with the 2nd and for that matter the 3rd pick at the time...NO. Do I disagree with either... No. Are there other picks I would have rather had ...Yes. But, I'm not running this team and I have to assume that they have a plan. I trust the people that are making the decisions. I may not understand them all, but, I have faith in this group of decision makers.
