  • Barron for Carpenter

Barron for Carpenter is suppossed to happen Monday.

I hope it does. We have some OLine depth and a fresh mindset.

Something about removing the old (Barron) and in with the new makes it feel even better.

Carpenter may also like the Lou a little better at provide some new life on the Outside for us.

    Agreed ?

      Re: Barron for Carpenter

I think this could turn out to be one heck of a steal for both teams. Although Bobby Carpenter hasn't lived up to expectations, the Rams seem to be extremely knowledgeable of Ohio State LB's and how to use them. I understand Carpenter is very versitile and is a better fit in a 4-3. I'm excited!!! And he's only 26.

But still, Barron has started 74 games, Carpenter has started 1 game. Is a draft pick compensation out of the question?

The year Carpenter was drafted was the same year Dallas moved to the 3-4 defense. If you look at his draft profile, it reads like he should have fit in the 3-4 ILB position. Tough, great tackler and ability to shed blockers.

Reports out of Dallas (mainly from fans mind you..) say that he's been the opposite of his report. Apparently he's not been a good tackler, hasn't been able to shed blocks well at all, and shied away from contact. Understand fans pension for overreacting however. Curious to see the truth as I haven't been able to see anything of Bobby Carpenter ANYWHERE except for a fumble recovery on one play....

although I did like his hustle there

Cowboy fan here to weigh in on Carpenter

-not very physical (for a 3-4 I assume). Doesn't take on blockers often enough
              -sometimes takes bad angles

-great work ethic and high character
-suprisingly athletic for his build (6'2-250 just seems stubby to me)

Overall I'd say he's a bad fit for a 3-4, but in a 4-3 could be a guy that does several things well, nothing really great, and could be a solid player

yeah he was out of place in the 3-4, he should improve here. nice pick-up, i wanted to get rid of barron anyways so i like it.

I agree. Fans are a really poor judge because so often they are just repeating what they've been told by other fans or radio personalities that don't know anything either.

I don't care if he isn't physical for the 3-4 and took bad angles in a position he'll never play again. If he can't tackle that's a problem but Spags can teach him. That's what he does.

                      J. Lau may have an even better year this season if he is able to depend on Carpenter to maintain his assignments. That way J. Lau doesn't have to hesitate to cover his arse.

He was on the block, we know that. I am wondering how close we came. Seems like the pickup of Trautwein could have been in anticipation of Barron being gone.

Regardless, good developmental OT for the future, a future that Barron most likely won't be in.

With all the what if's and maybe we should of's. One person that needs some kudos' is A. Barron. The kid pretty much shut down one of the best defensive ends in football and did it one handed. I think we got a hell of a right tackle in makings here. KUDOS' Alex. We love having you here!!

Just my two cent here but I thought Barron more than held his own against Strahan!!! he has a great future

Actually after 62 attempts and only one sack given up the pass blocking was pretty good!!!
