  • Av's Rams Draft Board (*Sorted by Position*)

I've created a new type of Rams draft board that sorts the players by position. A bit of explanation is in order...

First, each position has a designated round. This denotes the earliest round I would consider taking a player the given position. For example, the position of CB is designated "Round 1B," which means the earliest I'd take a CB is with the Rams second pick in the first round.

Because of these designations, certain players are omitted. For example, you won't see the top QBs (Bortles, Manziel, Bridgewater), Aaron Donald or Khalil Mack on my lists, because I am confident that they will all be taken before the earliest selection I'd use on their respective positions.

Ten players have a number in bold after their names. These are my Top 10 overall prospects, and their rankings on my overall board.

Finally, where there is only one player (DE), or no players at all (TE) at a given position who I'd consider in the first three rounds of the draft, I have not included a full list of five players.

So... with that, here are my lists:

    Quarterback (Round 2)

    1. Derek Carr, Fresno State
    2. Jimmy Garoppolo, Eastern Illinois
    3. A.J. McCarron, Alabama
    4. David Fales, San Jose State
    5. Aaron Murray, Georgia

    Running Back (Round 3)

    1. Tre Mason, Auburn
    2. Bishop Sankey, Washington
    3. Ka’Deem Carey, Arizona
    4. Lache Seastrunk, Baylor
    5. Tyler Gaffney, Stanford

    Wide Receiver (Round 1A)

    1. Sammy Watkins, Clemson (3)
    2. Mike Evans, Texas A&M (4)
    3. Kelvin Benjamin, Florida State*
    4. Odell Beckham, Jr., LSU
    5. Jordan Matthews, Vanderbilt

    Tight End (n/a)

    Offensive Guard/Center (Round 2)

    1. David Yankey, Stanford
    2. Gabe Jackson, Mississippi State
    3. Xavier Su’a-Filo, UCLA
    4. Brandon Thomas, Clemson
    5. Marcus Martin, USC

    Offensive Tackle (Round 1A)

    1. Jake Matthews, Texas A&M (1)*
    2. Greg Robinson, Auburn (2)*
    3. Taylor Lewan, Michigan (6)*
    4. Zack Martin, Notre Dame (7)
    5. Morgan Moses, Virginia

    Defensive End (Round 1A)

    1. Jadeveon Clowney, South Carolina*

    Defensive Tackle (Round 2)

    1. Timmy Jernigan, Florida State
    2. RaShede Hagerman, Minnesota
    3. Ego Ferguson, LSU
    4. DaQuan Jones, Penn State
    5. Anthony Johnson, LSU

    Linebacker (Round 1B)

    1. Anthony Barr, UCLA
    2. C.J. Mosley, Alabama
    3. Ryan Shazier, Ohio State*

    4. Kyle Van Noy, BYU
    5(tie). Chris Borland, Wisconsin
    5(tie). Trevor Reilly, Utah

    Cornerback (Round 1B)

    1. Justin Gilbert, Oklahoma State (5)*
    2. Darqueze Dennard, Michigan State (8)*
    3. Kyle Fuller, Virginia Tech
    4. Stanley Jean-Baptiste, Nebraska
    5. Keith McGill, Utah

    Safety (Round 1B)

    1. Hasean Clinton-Dix, Alabama (9)
    2. Calvin Pryor, Louisville (10)
    3. Deone Bucannon, Washington State
    4. Jimmy Ward, Northern Illinois
    5. Ed Reynolds, Stanford

I've added (and will continue to add) asterisks next to players who have either private workouts with the Rams or visits to Rams Park.

I like most of this, good job man! The only thing I disagree with is the CBs. Not a fan of Gilbert and Dennard would be a terrible fit for us. IMO Fuller is the best in the class.

Why are not a fan of Gilbert? From what I have seen read Dennard is a great man on man CB and with Williams scheme it would be seem to fit I am wondering why you disagree. Also why do you like Fuller the best? Long question short would you mind expanding on our points? I am always willing to learn :-)

Gilbert seems overly aggressive and bites on fakes really easily. He just seems to get burned more than id like to see. He also seems to grab the wideouts a lot when downfield.
Dennard is a much better press corner than off man corner and i see us playing off more often than press.

The thing I like most about Fuller is he is great at jumping routes and is great at locating the ball. Just an all around playmaker.

I can't remember who, I think it might have been Nick W mentioned that Fuller could be converted to a really good safety. With your description of him do you agree, or think he should stay at CB?

Saw Joe Haden talking about the CB's in this years draft he is a guy I respect in many ways not just for his play. He loves Gilbert most of all the CB's in this draft and cites Dennard as being too grabby and that might cost him in penalties till he gets it straight in the NFL. Oh by the way he still had Dennard at number 2, just saying. Interesting to hear Joe break these guys down!

Re: Av's Rams Draft Board (*Sorted by Position*)

My No. 4 interior lineman, Brandon Thomas, has suffered a torn ACL. This takes him off my board, moving Marcus Martin up to four, and adding Dakota Dozier, Furman, at No. 5.

I would consider drafting Thomas with one of the Rams four 7th round picks if he is available and placing him on a "redshirt" status for 2014.

A few days belated, below is my current top 20 prospects for the Rams.

Security is really tight at Rams Park these days, so I was unable to get my microphones in the negotiating room. My spies were able, however, to bug the Rams Park receptionist desk, and was able to pick up these very interesting calls. Enjoy!

“St. Louis Rams, may I help you?”

“I’m sorry, Mr. Miklasz, I’m not at liberty to provide information regarding player visits.”

“Yes, I know who you are.”

                  “No, that doesn’t change anything.”

“No, I’m sorry, I can’t forward your advice to Jeff Fisher.”

“Well, that’s not very nice. I’m hanging up now.”

                  ****

“St. Louis Rams, may I help you?”

                  “Oh, hello, Mr. Dahl.”

“Yes, I gave him your messages.”

“Yes, I’m sure he’ll call you back as soon as he can.”

Okay… okay… look, he said to just go down to the basement where your new locker is and while you're down here, it would be really great if you could just sort of take care of the cockroach problem we've been having in here. Yeah…that would be great.”

                  ****

“St. Louis Rams, may I help you?

“Oh, its you. Mr.Florio, I’m not going to talk to you anymore. I am, quite frankly, tired of you citing me as a ‘team source.’ Good day, Sir.”

“St. Louis Rams, may I help you?

“We just discussed this Mr. Miklasz… the answer is still ‘no.’”

“I’m sure Stan Kroenke is a good friend of yours, Mr.Miklasz. That does not change anything.”

“How rude. Do youkiss your mother with that mouth? Goodbye!”

“St. Louis Rams, may I help you?”

“Yes, Mr. Delmas, we did find your wallet.”

“Oh, I don’t feel right about sending it all the way to SanFrancisco. I think it would be better ifyou came back to get it.”

                  “Great, I’ll see you then.”

                  ****

“St. Louis Rams, may I help you?”

“Oh, Mr. Snead. Ididn’t recognize your voice. Its funny, I thought you were still in the building.”

“But we don’t have a back exit, Mr. Sn-- wait a second… is this Mr. Miklasz again? Hello? Hello?”

                  ****

“St. Louis Rams, may I help you?”

“Oh, hello, Mr. Dacity. Yes, of course I’ll put you right through to Coach Fisher. Please hold.”

A song for Preseason (with apologies to Green Day)
                  by AvengerRam_old
                  Summer has come and passed,
There's pigskin on the tube, at last.
Wake me up, when preseason ends.

Right now, the whole roster’s vast,
But most, by Autumn will not last.
Wake me up, when preseason ends.

                  Some are in pain again,
See the falling of the sky.
                  Patience is not for them.
                  Each moment, do or die.

Allow me to be quite crass,
An August naysayer, is an ass.
Wake me up, when preseason ends.

Find your hope for wins, again.
Like you did when Spring began.
Wake me up, when preseason ends.

                  Some are in pain again,
See the falling of the sky.
                  Patience is not for them.
                  Each moment, do or die.

                  As my memory is vast,
I know the bad times will not last,
Wake me up, when preseason ends.

                  Av's Round 1 "Probability Machine"
                  by AvengerRam_old
I've been trying to come up with a system to estimate the probabilty that prospects will be available when the Rams make their selections at #s 16 and 22.

While it is impossible to come up with a true mathematical formula (given the abundance of variables that cannot be valued with certainty), I think I have come up with a rational method of assessing the probabilities. So, I give you...

                  Av's Round 1 Probability Machine

                  Here is how it works:

For each team making a selection before the Rams' picks, I have listed the three players that I believe are the most logical choices. Once a player has been listed three times, I have "taken them off the board" (as noted in bold), indicating that I believe there is an extremely low probability that they will still be available when the Rams make their choices. I have then (using my own most recent draft board) listed the top three players who I believe will be available when the Rams make their picks.

Here's what I came up with:

                  1) Kansas City: Luke Joekel, Jarvis Jones, Dee Milliner
                  2) Jacksonville Jaguars: Jarvis Jones, Dion Jordon, Bjoern Werner
                  3) Oakland Raiders: Sharif Floyd, Star Lotulelei, Jarvis Jones
                  4) Philadelphia Eagles: Luke Joekel, Eric Fisher, Sharif Floyd
                  5) Detroit Lions: Dion Jordon, Dee Milliner, Bjoern Werner
                  6) Cleveland Browns: Dion Jordon, Bjoern Werner, Cordarrelle Patterson
                  7) Arizona Cardinals: Geno Smith, Luke Joekel, Eric Fisher
                  8) Buffalo Bills: Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, Damontre Moore
                  9) New York Jets: Damontre Moore, Ezekiel Ansah, Barkevious Mingo
                  10) Tennessee Titans: Eric Fisher, Chance Warmack, Lane Johnson
                  11) San Diego Chargers: Lane Johnson, Chance Warmack, Dee Milliner
                  12) Miami Dolphins: Cordarrelle Patterson, Keenan Allen, Barkevious Mingo
                  13) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Sharif Floyd, Xavier Rhodes, Tyler Eifert
                  14) Carolina Panthers: Star Lotulelei, Xavier Rhodes, Codarrelle Patterson
                  15) New Orleans Saints: Star Lotulelei, Barkevious Mingo, Xavier Rhodes
                  16) St. Louis Rams: D.J. Fluker, Jonathan Cooper, Tyler Eifert
                  17) Pittsburgh Steelers: Ezekiel Ansah, Damontre Moore, Sheldon Richardson
                  18) Dallas Cowboys: Sheldon Richardson, Jonathan Cooper, Kenny Vaccaro
                  19) New York Giants: Ezekiel Ansah, Jonathan Cooper, Eddie Lacy
                  20) Chicago Bears: Lane Johnson, D.J. Fluker, Manti Te’o
                  21) Cincinnati Bengals: D.J. Fluker, Alec Ogletree, Menelik Watson
                  22) St. Louis Rams: Tyler Eifert, Matt Elam, Terrance Williams

Now... anticipating the most likely criticism, I am fully aware that the "top 3" for each team, as well as the Rams' draft board, are open for debate.

That stated, I think the system I have created has a great deal of logic behind it, and can be used to estimate
                  ...
