Pro Day March 29: SMU, West Virginia & Southern Miss
    March 29, 2018 | Tony Pauline

Four schools from the AAC take part in pro-day workouts today, with Central Florida and SMU being the top schools on the schedule. Southern Mississippi is also slated for a pro-day workout today as well. Let’s start off with some major news.

Lost in the shuffle yesterday was Alabama’s second pro-day workout and the expected testing of safety Ronnie Harrison and linebacker Rashaan Evans.

Harrison, who has been dealing with a hamstring injury, tipped the scales at 219 pounds and timed anywhere from 4.56 to 4.61 seconds in the 40.

Evans, who did not run the 40 at the combine or Alabama’s first pro day, did not run yesterday. That left a very bad taste in the mouths of teams who purposely made the trip to watch his workout.

Several teams questioned Evans' speed going into the predraft process, and the fact that he hasn't yet run the 40 coupled with a vertical jump of just 30 inches and a broad jump of 9-foot-8 will raise further red flags about his athleticism.

Factor in terrific workouts by many of the linebackers at the combine (Lorenzo Carter, Leighton Vander Esch) and it adds up to bad news for Evans.

Nyheim Hines of North Carolina State, a player who has shined during the predraft process, will be worked out by Scott Linehan and Gary Brown of the Dallas Cowboys today. Hines will work out for the New Orleans Saints tomorrow, and earlier this week he put his talent on display for the Tennessee Titans.
YMMV in terms of how much this impacts your personal view of Evans, but it sounds like some teams have been turned off by his unwillingness to run the 40-yd dash. If it's masking athleticism issues, he could be in for a slight slide.
