From staff, wire reports
Saints officials waived second-year tight end Zach Hilton on Tuesday to make room for veteran running back Ki-Jana Carter on their 53-man roster.
Hilton, who made the team as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2003, had been inactive for the first two games. He played in three games last season, primarily on special teams. He is eligible for the team's practice squad.
Also, Saints owner Tom Benson awarded five game balls to city officials in San Antonio in appreciation for their hospitality last week.
The team moved their football operations to San Antonio for three days when it appeared Hurricane Ivan might strike the New Orleans area.
AROUND THE LEAGUE: Minnesota Vikings right tackle Mike Rosenthal is likely out for the season with an injury to his right foot sustained in Monday night's game at Philadelphia. Vikings tight end Jermaine Wiggins will miss two to three weeks with a broken left hand. . . . Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Eric Warfield was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving a few hours after Sunday's game. Warfield could be subject to a league suspension as a repeat violator. . . . . . . Denver Broncos defensive end Trevor Pryce, a four-time Pro Bowl player, will have surgery today to remove a disc fragment from his lower back. He's expected to be out four to six weeks.
