  • Favre vs. Ripken

This was a debate I heard on the radio yesterday. Very interesting debate.
Favre - Football is a tougher sport!
Ripken - It's THOUSANDS of games!

    Favre vs. Ripken
    200 vs. 2,632
    16 games a year vs. 162 games a year
300 lb. man flying at him vs. 100 mph ball flying at him
---Favre has nearly one ton of humanity protecting him from harm
    ---Ripken had a glove

I gotta go with Cal on this one.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Its not even close. Ripken, hands down.

Not to diminish Favre's streak, or to underestimate the injury factor, but what Ripken did is still tougher.

In baseball, its easy... indeed, expected for players to take a day off every now and again. Its a 162 game schedule, and a game here and there really does not matter that much.

In football, you don't take a day off. Every game counts. So, of course, a QB who is healthy and talented is going to play each week.

If that doesn't convince you... ask yourself this: which of the two streaks can you see being broken in your lifetime.

      Favre's - maybe.

Ripken's - no way, no how.

Both are pretty remarkable....I went with Ripkin for no apparent reason

On SportsCenter, Jaws and Sean Salsbery both say Favre's is more impressive. In fact, they both went so far as to say he's the toughest quarterback of all time.

          Surprise, surprise.

At the risk of agreeing with the ESPN guys, I have to say that the football record is more impressive than the baseball......I have to look at which is the more physical game. One football game probably takes more out of a player physically than 25 baseball games.

With that said, if you want to find THE most impressive Iron Man record in sports, look no further than the NHL, by far the toughest of any of the major sports (and even the non-major ones). From 1975 to 1987, Doug Jarvis (of the Canadiens, Capitals and Whalers) played in 964 consecutive games.

Neither Favre's or Ripken's records should be mentioned in the same paragraph
            as Jarvis'.

By the way, Salisbury is a joke, but I respect Jaworski's opinions.

              by dgr828
Rams will get first crack at the 40 year old Brett Favre. Maybe the Rams can catch "ol man" Favre, coming off a short week and an emotional high of Monday Night, on a off day. Rams will be looking to 'BASH' Brett's birthday celebrations, cutting down on the penalties and turnovers will help their cause.
Speaking of 40...the Rams should never forget that Brett put up 40 points on them, by halftime, last year when Favre was QB for the Jets.

So Happy 40th Birthday to #4......Heres hoping, however, that the Rams can play Forty-5 minutes of football and blowout the candles to the 40 year old's Purple Party!
