  • Gone are the old days with FA

I love this time of year with FA and it is just brill that we are the elite team in the NFL, Gone are those day's in the 90's where we had to run around after FA, we were all waiting to see what FA we would sign as all the high profile FA's seem to bypass us by!

How times have changed I'm just so excited about our FA we have already signed!!! Little has seen the light and signed a 5year pack, I'm sorry I questioned his loyalty, Duncan will replace Fletch( this guy will be missed, a fan legend) where do you think he will sign HOUSTON maybe???

I think Duncan might be better in coverage and he knows the cover2 system very well!!! but he has big shoes to fill and now we have we have a MR CARTER beating down the door to play for us!!! WHOS NEXT!!!! what DT GLOVER!!

It seems that ever time I log on somebody wants to play for us, these are truely great times for our team!!!!!! roll on new season

    Any thoughts!

I was never around to experience the NFL before free agency, when one powerhouse ruled a decade. I love the free agency system and the salary cap, as it keeps the athletes in check as far as money goes, and it can cause a lot of interesting scenarios on different teams. I doubt you'll ever see a football player receive $20 million a year, as opposed to baseball players. This makes every year all the more interesting, and it lets teams down in the dumps a chance to soar to the top. As far as all the players wanting to sign with the Rams, we have to be careful about who we sign. Talent is nothing when a player has a bad work habit and personality.

It makes football a 12 month sport. Pretty cool in my book.

An interesting way to look at the Rams' FA progress
        by AvengerRam_old
Peter King (and, no, I'm not saying he's the ultimate authority) put out a list of the Top 50 FAs a couple of weeks ago. While there are other lists out there, his list includes many of the same names you'd find on most.

Here's what has happened to these 50 players:

        14 re-signed with their 2011 team
        13 remain unsigned
23 have signed with a new team

Those 23 were signed by 16 teams, meaning 16 teams (half the league!) have yet to sign away one of the players listed from a different team.

Of the 16 teams who have signed a "Top 50 FA," only 7 have signed more than one player.

        They are:

Tampa Bay: Vincent Jackson, Carl Nicks
        Seattle: Matt Flynn, Jason Jones
        Dallas: Brandon Carr, Kyle Orton
San Diego: Robert Meachem, Jarrett Johnson
        Washington: Pierre Garcon, Josh Morgan
        Jacksonville: Chad Henne, Laurent Robinson

        and

St. Louis: Cortland Finnegan, Scott Wells

So, while this is not the only measure of FA success, I would say that it is a good enough indicator that the Rams are, in fact, making progress in FA. It also is a pretty good retort to those PD Board types who like to post things like "nobody wants to play in St. Louis!"

When you factor in these signings (plus Langford) and the trade, I'd say the new Front Office is off to a very good start.

Whiffing on every big Free Agent the last 3 years
        by bruce4life
Has ruined the cap situation of the Rams again and left them with little to no value from these signings. The list is remarkable when you think about it:

        - Cortland Finnegan: 5yr 50 mil Cut after 2 seasons
        - Jake Long : 4yr 32mil Torn ACL back to back seasons.
        - Jared Cook- 5yr 35mil Up and down player. No consistency
-Scott Wells: 4yr 24mil Pro Bowl Center with Packers... Bust with the Rams
        - Kendall Langford: 4yr 24mil He hasn't been a bad player, he's been average to above average

Every big FA signing that we've attempted has blown up in our faces. This front office has fared better at smaller signings like Hayes, Dunbar ( first year), SHelley Smith, Barksdale, etc than the above players. When you make a financial commitment and the return on investment is minimal, it sets your team back. I am not ready to blow this team again yet again as Fisher/Snead has brought in young talent and we have been decimated with injuries this season. I don't care how you guys feel about Bradford I am still saying this team would have fared better with him out there than not. Regardless of your opinion on him, the talent was there, his health was not. His demise alone cost the Rams 2 seasons.

My question to you guys is this: Do the Rams have bad luck at signing veterans or is their evaluation process off kilter a bit?

I'm not impressed with the available FA
        by sbramfan
Maybe it's just me, but I've reviewed the top 50 players and it looks like we will be overpaying for some average Linebackers and Safeties and will be mediocre again next year.

Especially since some team will overpay for our 3 FA's and we'll probably need to back fill those guys as well.

I know this is a negative post, but this whole CBA has screwed the Rams, in my opinion. The problem is that the extra money we have is in no way as valuable as the fact that teams that had no money now have some and are in the mix.

My only hope is: Retain Bruce, sign Lavar Arrington, and draft Huff, Hawk or Vernon Davis.

        Otherwise, it's just ho hum.

Rams sign losers in FA why
        by DieHardRamsFan1381
how come the rams never sign any big name free agents. like we couldnt have used joey porter, julius peppers, jake delhome, kyle van don bouch,t.o., L.T., but all we picked up was aj feely, kevin dockery, fred robbins, and some other no namers who have bearly ever played. someone just tell me why we couldnt have needed any of those guys. im startin to lose faith in the rams their never really tryin to better the team. give marc a decent wide out to throw to. give some help to chris long and adam. james laurinitus some good linebackers to play beside.hopefully spags is at least gonna do a little better the linehan maybe we should bring back mike martz he at least won some games for us. someone just please tell me why they dont sign anybody good.

        The elephant in the room
        by Rambos
The Rams have yet to sign a player other then their own. Are you bummed by this? Where you hoping for a more aggressive approach? Anyone have a theory as to what we are doing are not doing?
