Re: Punter signed
some additional details. eastern washington univ. for the last two years, before that junior college. 6 feet 1 inch, 190 pounds. averaged 44.4 yards per kick last year, which seems pretty darn good.
He may give the Ancient One some real competition in camp.

Re: Punter signed
That is good news. I don't know why the Rams resigned Landeta. Hopefully this kid will be the one who brings respectableity back to the special teams.JUST WIN ONE FOR THE FANS:ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram:

Re: Punter signed
He's got to be dead or in a wheelchair to do any worse than Landetta. Net average? If he just pretends to be a QB on 4th down and throws a pick he'll do better than Landetta.Last edited by adarian_too; -06-12-2004, 07:13 PM.

Re: Punter signed
FWIW, Kiper had Nicassio ranked 4th amongst all the punters in his draft guide. Mel also catergorized him as having the ability to be an eventual starter in the NFL. In Eastern Washington's last game of the past season (a loss to Montana), Nicassio punted 6 times averaging 48.1 yards. I don't know if he had some favorable tailwinds, however. It'd be great if he can keep it all together during training camp and preseason.
We need more threads about punters. I wonder if the landetta/nicassio debate will be as controversial as other recent recent debates have been.

Re: Punter signed
Radjohns, while there are many spirited debates on this board, I dont think that the replacement of landetta is one of them. The group seems to be basically unanimous over the last several weeks over the belief that we could really use an upgrade at that position if one was available at a reasonable price. In keeping with the movement to youth, I hope that this guy can handle the pressure in camp and win the job. Landetta, being the last guy left in the nfl who played for the decautur stanleys, is ready to retire.

The Landettaites? A punter controversy? I don't think so.JUST WIN ONE FOR THE FANS:ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram::ram:

Rams signed punter B.J. Sander, formerly of the Packers.
St. Louis might still bring back free agent Matt Turk, but Sander, a former third-round bust, is the lone punter on the Rams' roster currently.-

On the good news front, matt turk was sending bombs up into the sky all day yesterday. He certainly had plenty of practice. I think he might of signed a one year deal. If so, i hope we resign him soon, i would love to have him back.
Our special teams are really improved this year, notwithstanding the kickoff return vs. sf and the punt return vs. seattle.

according to howard balzer, who i consider to be the single best source of ACCURATE rams related information, the rams have offered turk a one year contract for the vet minimum.
That is a disgrace. As howard points out, they paid more for steussie and they have the same kind of need for turk. How can you blame turk when he has a super year and all the rams offer him is the minimum.
I am a big defender of the front office, but on this point, i am going to blast away if we lose turk. There is no justification for an offer of the vet minimum to a guy that not only is very very good, but is truly a position of need for the rams. This is NOT a marginal punter who can be easily replaced.

by Bruce=GOATJust curious, but with us signing Donnie Jones, Turk obviously won't be back while still being a very good punter. Any word on if he has signed with another team? I haven't heard anything, but would be shocked if no team signed him. Sorry if this is old news, just wondering.
