...compensatory pick for Warner?? Does cutting someone count on this? Does the player have to be a free agent?? Even if he has a good season does this mean the Rams would get nothing in return?

Looking at things I would think we will get at least two good picks next season for Wistrom and Young, and then pending Warner.

Warner was waived, so no compensation. I'm not sure about Wistrom or Young, but we'll find out.

Well that's bush if we get no compensation. Warner refused to rework a deal and choose to leave and left the Rams with little choices. The Rams had to make a financial decision based on him being a back up, so they cut their loses. This is no different the a FA in my book and they should receive a pick.

        Don't forget St. Clair.

If there is any truth in Martz' statement that "St. Clair finally gets it" then we should get something for carrying his fat a$$ for all these years. Heaven knows the only thing we ever got from him on the field were missed blocks.

No compensation for Warner, other than cap space for this year.

Guess it will go to the rookies....

I suspect we'll get third round compensation for Wistrom based on his contract and the assumption he puts up similar numbers as he has in his career. We won't and shouldn't get compensation for Warner though since we chose to remove him from the team.

Nick, dre bly made first team all nfc and we didnt get a #3 for him. I am not sure that wistrom will repeat his numbers anyway without leonard little on the other side, but i agree he should have a productive year barring injury. I was never clear on how the league decides what compensation to award, but i remember reading on the old site that #3 picks are very rarely awarded. If they count how much seattle paid as a primary consideration in what to give us, you may be right, and of course, i hope you are.

I remember hearing that performance, Pro Bowl birth, and salary are important. Consider though that Bly's contract was a five-year, $24.5 million contract including only $6.5 million in signing bonus. Wistrom is over double the bonus with a six-year, $33 million deal that includes a $14 million signing bonus.

Wasn't Phily given a fourth round comp pick? If you're telling me that was for Hugh Douglas, then contract has a much bigger impact than I originally thought, because Douglas didn't do much last season. Look at the Bengals and Takeo Spikes. They got a third rounder for him, and while he was a Pro Bowl player, his contract was smaller. I think Wistrom's contract guarantees us a fourth round comp pick, and if he plays well, we'll get a third rounder. Guaranteed third rounder if Wistrom hits the Pro Bowl, methinks.
